Chapter 1157 See You Again
Abigail was in a daze as Bryan from the Miller family dragged her away.
She was overwhelmed. "If I had known, we shouldn't have gotten so close to the Tarro family, and I definitely shouldn't have let Benjamin get Isla a job at the Hayes Group."
"It's too late now. The Campbell family has already fallen. Mr. Campbell was Carl's competitor, but in just two days, the Campbell family collapsed. I heard several politicians allied with them got arrested. Carl's on the offensive and isn't sparing anyone who crossed him. The Hayes family is lucky only Benjamin got caught."
Abigail was stunned. She couldn't believe Benjamin had the nerve to take down the Jude family.
At the Miller Manor, around 8 PM, Luke said, "Laura, if you're tired, go rest. Mr. Jude, you can sleep in the first guest room on the left downstairs tonight."
Michael was taken aback for a moment, then cleared his throat. "Dad, Laura and I are already married."
"Laura told us you two got married just to solve the Jude family's crisis. It's not a real marriage, so no need to share a room," Elliott interrupted coldly, making it clear Michael had no chance with Laura.
"In a few years, you can get divorced," Luke nodded. "You don't need to call me Dad."
Michael was speechless, thinking, 'Don't most parents hope their kids won't get divorced once they're married?'
"Dad, there's no such thing as a fake marriage. The marriage certificate is real, and I don't plan to divorce. I've said before I had many faults, but from now on, I'll give Laura and the child a complete home. Besides, it's not good for a woman to get divorced," Michael explained.
"What's wrong with it? I don't care about reputation and can support Laura. Even when we're old, Elliott can take care of her," Luke sneered.
Michael was frustrated. "Elliott will also get married and have kids in the future."
Elliott quietly added, "I don't plan to marry any woman who can't accept Laura and me living together."
Michael fell silent.
"Dad, Elliott, I love you both," Laura said, moved to tears.
"Good girl, go rest," Elliott coaxed.
"Cassie, let's sleep together tonight," Laura said, pulling Cassie upstairs.
Cassie saw Michael downstairs, looking defeated.
After the door closed, Cassie said enviously, "I've always envied your family since we were kids. Your parents love each other, and you have a strong, doting brother."
"You're not doing too bad now, with twins and Joseph," Laura smiled. "Want to go to our usual late-night snack place? We haven't been there in years."
"Sure, let's go after we shower."
After they showered, it was almost 9 PM.
Cassie and Laura sneaked downstairs. Just as they opened the car door, Michael's voice came from behind. "Where are you going this late?"
He had probably just showered too, wearing gray cotton pants and a white T-shirt, with his hair hanging over his forehead.
"It's none of your business," Laura snapped. "Go to sleep. Cassie and I are going out."
"I don't care about you, but I have to look after the child," Michael sneered. "You two are definitely sneaking out for a late-night snack."
"How did you know?" Laura asked, eyes wide with surprise.
Michael smirked. "Joseph warned me earlier to keep an eye on you two tonight."
Cassie and Laura were speechless.
Seeing their expressions, Michael knew he had guessed right. He took the car keys from Cassie's hand. "I don't mind you having a late-night snack, but I have to go with you. In case anything happens, I can protect you."
Laura glanced at him. "Alright, we'll give you a chance."
Michael drove them to a street lined with late-night snack shops.
The car stopped in front of the snack shop Cassie and Laura often visited.
Although they hadn't been there in years, the shop owner recognized them immediately. "It's been years since you last came."
"We went abroad," Cassie said with a smile. "Your business is getting better and better."
"Yes, I even rented the shop next door to expand," the owner said, glancing at Michael and teasing Cassie, "Is this your boyfriend?"
Then, turning to Laura, he asked, "Why didn't you bring your boyfriend?"
Cassie and Laura both felt awkward. Michael's mind seemed to click, and he pointed at Laura with a dark face, "I'm her husband."
Now, it was the owner's turn to feel awkward. "Sorry, I forgot it's been years. But this husband is much more handsome than the last one."
"Never mind," Laura smiled.
"Have a seat. I'll bring you a dessert later," the owner said, inviting them to sit.
Cassie looked around and, seeing it was crowded inside, chose a table outside.
"You used to come here with that trash, Benjamin?" Michael asked with a cold snort.
"It's been a long time. We haven't been here since we broke up years ago," Laura said.
Cassie added, "This place has great food. Laura and I used to come here often during college. Back then, there was also..."
"Benjamin?" Michael asked, seeing them frown and stop talking.
"No, you know her too, Sarah," Laura said, feeling down. "Cassie, Sarah, and I used to come here the most. We'd always order a few bottles of beer."
Michael was stunned. He knew Sarah used to be very close to Cassie and Laura.
However, for those three years, from what Sarah had told him, he had always thought Cassie and Laura, being rich girls, looked down on Sarah, who came from a modest background.
Of course, now that he truly understood Laura and Cassie, he realized he had misunderstood a lot in the past.
"What a coincidence. I didn't expect to see you again." Suddenly, Everett walked up to the table, his handsome face filled with joy as he looked at Cassie.
Cassie looked up and saw it was Everett she had saved that morning.
