Chapter 1192 What Kind of Person Are You?

"What's up?" Lucas thought Bernice just wanted to peel some fruit, but she turned around, put on gloves, and stabbed herself in the back. Blood instantly soaked her shirt.

"Bernice, are you out of your mind?" Lucas yelled, eyes wide.

Bernice ignored him. She pulled out the knife, took off her gloves, and called the police, weakly saying, "Hello, I've been stabbed."

Lucas stood there, stunned.

When Bernice hung up, he finally got it. "Bernice, you're nuts."

"Yeah, I am," she replied, her face going pale. "It's just about money, but why should I give him any? He never spent a dime on me. He used to hit me and my mom. Now that I'm famous, he wants my money. I have to support him, his son, and his new wife? No way. I'll ruin him."

Lucas's jaw dropped. He'd never seen such a fierce look in a woman's eyes. "Aren't you scared I'll tell the truth?"

"If you don't want to lose your cash cow, keep quiet," Bernice smiled, then fainted.

Lucas caught her before she hit the ground.

She looked so fragile, her face deathly pale.

Lucas panicked. He performed emergency measures and rushed her downstairs.

Soon, she was in the emergency room. Lucas put on a white coat, cut her clothes with scissors, and treated her wound.

She had aimed well; the wound was deep but not fatal.

News of Bernice's stabbing spread fast. Paparazzi swarmed the hospital, and reporters rushed to the police station.

The police arrested Hunter, the prime suspect, through surveillance footage.

As Hunter was taken in, he shouted, "I didn't stab Bernice! She did this to herself! She abused me. All my injuries are from her."

"Shut up. The knife had your fingerprints, and you had her bank card," a cop said, slamming the table.

Hunter realized what happened. "She gave me the card and the knife. She set me up."

"Got any proof?" the cop asked. "You have no evidence."

"I ran into a guy when I left. He's a witness. Bernice was fine then," Hunter said quickly.

"This guy?" The cop showed a photo.

Hunter nodded. "Yeah, him."

"Sorry, we questioned him. He said Bernice was already unconscious when he arrived, and you ran out in a panic. He took her to the hospital," the cop sneered.

Hunter was stunned. Then he lost it. "Bernice, you bitch, you framed me!"

No one believed Hunter.

Soon, netizens dug up his past. He was Bernice's biological father but was always into gambling and drinking. A neighbor from over twenty years ago claimed Hunter never worked and often beat Bernice and her mom, Danielle.

Danielle eventually divorced him and took Bernice with her.

Hunter remarried Maya, and they had a kid named Bruce. They lived in poverty until Bernice became famous. With Bernice's money, Hunter bought several new houses, and Bruce started a company, driving a car worth over a million dollars. But Bruce was incompetent, and the company kept losing money. The whole family was living off Bernice.

Netizens were furious.

[Bernice is so unlucky to have such a father. It's tragic.]

[I heard Maya just plays cards all day. The whole family lives off Bernice, and when they run out, they go to her for more.]

[Bernice probably couldn't take it anymore. She didn't want to give Hunter money, they argued, and Hunter stabbed her. I heard he also stabbed his ex-wife Danielle before. He's vicious.]

[Bruce is a useless bum. His house and car were bought with Bernice's money. When she refused, Hunter threatened to tell the media she wasn't supporting him and was abusing him. Bernice had no choice.]

[Poor Bernice. I wonder how she's doing now.]

[Hunter must be severely punished. Such a person doesn't deserve to be a father.]

In the hospital corridor, Lucas, wearing a white coat, quietly lit a cigarette.

Bernice's manager, Fiona Cox, rushed over. She was startled to see Lucas. "Mr. Nelson."

She wondered why Lucas was at Bernice's house and why was it he who brought her to the hospital.

Luckily, only she, Max, and the police knew about this. If someone had taken photos, it would have been a big problem.

"What exactly happened between Bernice and Hunter?" Lucas asked indifferently.

Fiona sighed. "It's pretty much what people are saying online. Hunter never raised Bernice. He and Danielle divorced when Bernice was four, and she lived with Danielle. Danielle had a hard time, working during the day and taking on part-time jobs at night. It was tough until Bernice became famous. Then Hunter came, demanding alimony every month. Bernice used to comply, afraid Hunter would tarnish her reputation. He squeezed out all her money. The rest went to Danielle. Bernice didn't have much herself. Only in the past two years did she become more famous and tougher, managing to save some money."

"I see," Lucas nodded. "Go on in."

Fiona immediately entered the ward.

Standing by the window, Lucas thought, 'So that's why she took such a desperate risk. She'd rather stab herself. Bernice, what kind of person are you exactly?'

It was the first time Lucas had seen a woman so ruthless to herself. He even lied to the police, saying it was Hunter who stabbed Bernice.
