Chapter 1473 I Have No Humanity
Cassie was fuming after reading it, feeling a deep sense of injustice for Laura.
Laura had Michael's kid, and now, with the divorce, she wasn't getting a dime in alimony.
Laura didn't care about Michael's money, but the fact that he was so loaded and still this heartless was mind-blowing.
Laura saw it too.
She couldn't believe she ever thought Michael had any good in him.
Even if she divorced the poorest guy, it was rare for a woman to walk away with nothing, especially when the guy was the one who cheated and had a kid with his mistress.
Michael was beyond heartless; no one could be colder or more ruthless.
"Michael, you messed up. Why should Laura get nothing?" Cassie couldn't hold back her anger, her eyes blazing. "You're shameless."
"What, you want money?" Michael's eyes turned cold as he laughed. "Laura, after you had Maeve, the money my parents gave is all with you, and Maeve's shares are worth billions. You're Maeve's mom; you're lucky to have a daughter like her."
"The shares were given to Maeve by your parents. What does that have to do with you?" Laura couldn't move, but Cassie couldn't stand it and threw the agreement in Michael's face.
"I'm talking about you. She married you, and besides hurting her, what did you give her?" Cassie snapped.
"If it weren't for me, could she have hooked up with Derek, moved into the Presidential Palace, and become the President's goddaughter? Be content with what you have." Michael's mocking tone was like a knife.
Laura closed her eyes. She remembered that Michael didn't used to talk like this.
'Yeah, when a guy wants to sleep with you, you can't believe anything he says.'
Laura had believed Michael's words back then.
Cassie was livid. "Do you think Laura cares about this stuff? She never chased power and status. She had money, was pampered by her parents since she was a kid. If she hadn't met you, she could've found someone with a similar background and lived a happy life. But because of you, she got pregnant before marriage and even had a premature birth. And now, you act like she's the one who took advantage of you. It's disgusting."
"Cassie, this is between Laura and me. It's none of your business," Michael said coldly.
"So what if I interfere? Do you think just because Joseph isn't here, I won't dare to hit you?"
Cassie was trembling all over. As an outsider, she was already deeply provoked by Michael, let alone Laura.
"Cassie, let it go," Laura suddenly spoke, her voice light but filled with weariness and sorrow, "As long as I can get a divorce, nothing else matters. Sometimes you just have to take a hit."
Michael stared at Laura's pale, beautiful face and added expressionlessly, "There's one more thing. Maeve will be under my custody."
Laura's hands trembled. "Maeve under your custody? That means Megan will be Maeve's stepmother?"
"Isn't it you who owes Megan?" Michael said angrily, "You ruined her so badly."
Laura took a deep breath. "You mean she had a miscarriage and can't have children anymore, right?"
Michael's silence was as good as admitting it.
"Then why don't you blame yourself? You slept with her while still married and got her pregnant." Laura laughed bitterly. "Michael, that child is proof of your betrayal. I don't expect you to love me, but at least feel a little guilty. Is your heart that cold?"
"I was drunk that day. I never meant to betray our marriage," Michael said irritably. "Anyway, you kidnapped Megan and took away her chance to be a mother. You're healthy; you can have more kids. And if you want to see Maeve, you can see her anytime. Laura, Megan's face is ruined, and she's paralyzed. Show some humanity."
"I have no humanity." Laura laughed, her eyes red. "Maeve is the child I painfully gave birth to. If you want to take Maeve, it'll be over my dead body."
"If you don't cooperate, I'll call the police and make your kidnapping public. Even if my uncle wants to protect you, if the evidence is solid and it blows up, he won't be able to cover for you. Think about it. Once you're in jail, Maeve will be mine," Michael said, his eyes cold as ice. "Worst case, I'll cut ties with the Jude family. I can take Megan and move abroad."
Laura, agitated, tried to sit up and throw a pillow at him.
Cassie noticed and quickly held her down.
"Cassie, don't stop me." Laura cried out in despair, "Maeve is my child. How can I let that vicious woman Megan be her stepmother? If Michael wants to destroy me, I'll take him down with me."
Michael looked at Laura, her face full of tears, his heart twitched, but thinking of Megan's situation, he held back. "Megan will treat Maeve well. And Megan is paralyzed, I'll hire a nanny to take good care of Maeve. Megan will at most see Maeve every day. Besides, you're the truly vicious one. I'm afraid Maeve will learn bad things from you."
"Enough, stop talking." Cassie quickly calmed down. "Since we can't reach an agreement, we can't sign this today. Security, please escort Michael out."
The security at the door immediately came in.
"I'll give you three days to think it over." Michael took a deep look at Laura and turned to leave.
Laura couldn't calm down at all. Her crying made her rib hurt more and more, and in the end, she had to call the doctor.
Soon, Derek also got the news and rushed over.
Laura had calmed down, but she lay on the hospital bed, tears streaming down her face.
"Cassie, doesn't Declan know a lot of hitmen in Neya City? I'll pay whatever it takes. I want Michael dead." At that moment, Laura's eyes were filled with fierce hatred.
Cassie sighed. Two people who once loved each other had ended up wanting to kill each other.
Cassie and Joseph had never reached that point, no matter how bad things got.
No wonder people say marriage is a grave; sometimes, they're not wrong.
"Laura, don't say such foolish things." Derek stood by the bed, his handsome face always so calm. "Didn't I warn you long ago that Michael might come to take back custody? I thought you were mentally prepared. I told you to trust me, and you should."
