Chapter 1637 I Love Laura

Laura and he exchanged a heavy nod after a moment of eye contact.

After getting out of the car, Laura walked ahead while Derek followed behind.

When the door opened, Rose came over holding Maeve and smiled, "So you had dinner with Derek tonight, I thought you were on a date."

Maeve's eyes lit up when she saw Derek, and she reached out her hands for a hug.

Derek took Maeve, lifted her high, and asked, "Did you miss me?"

Maeve babbled happily, laughing with joy.

"Maeve really likes you," Rose smiled, "Come on in and have a seat."

Luke also stood up to greet Derek, "What brings you here today?"

"I have something to discuss with you." Derek sat on the couch holding Maeve, his expression turning serious.

"What is it?" Luke asked as he had the servant bring tea.

Laura kept her head down, and Derek glanced at her with a gentle look, "I came today to formally tell you that I like Laura, I love her."

Luke, who was just about to lift the tea cover, was so shocked that the cover fell to the floor. Rose also looked completely stunned and shocked.

After exchanging a glance, Luke's face tightened immediately, "Derek, let's pretend you didn't say anything today. From now on, you should reduce your interactions with Laura."

"Luke, please listen to me," Derek said quickly, "I didn't come here today to seek your approval. I came to inform you. I fully understand your concerns, and I will also talk to my parents. If they don't support us, I won't persist and cause Laura any trouble."

Luke's expression softened a bit but remained stern, "Derek, you're a good guy, and you've helped the Miller family a lot. But we are realistic people. Even if Laura hadn't been married and had a child, I might not have agreed to you pursuing her. It's not that you're not good enough; on the contrary, you're too good. Your future is bright, and even your family background is something Laura can't match. Moreover, she was married to your cousin and has a child. The Miller family doesn't dare to hope for any connection with you. Your parents wouldn't agree either."

"Exactly," Rose nodded, "I like you a lot, and I think Laura is great too. Her first marriage was a mistake in judgment, but some things can't be undone. You're the president's son, and Laura is technically your god-sister. If word got out, it would affect both of your reputations, and your parents would be put in a difficult position."

"That's not true. My parents are the president now, but the presidency is a rotating position; they won't always be president."

Derek continued, "I don't think Laura being divorced makes her unworthy of me. She's not lacking in any way. As for the child, Maeve is my niece, practically my daughter. I've watched her grow up, and I love her. I've always treated her like my own daughter."

Just then, the servant brought in a cup of tea.

Derek took it and said, "You shouldn't just focus on Laura's divorce. She has many strengths. At a young age, she founded a major brand, researches various cosmetics and skincare products, and she's young, beautiful, and earns more than I do. She doesn't have the advantage of influential parents, yet she's still so outstanding."

These words made Luke and Rose feel much more at ease.

In the hearts of parents, their daughter is always priceless.

"I came today just to tell you about my feelings for Laura. I don't want to cause any trouble for you or Laura. If my parents ultimately oppose it despite my efforts, I will understand and won't force it."

Luke suddenly snorted, "If you don't want to force it, that means your feelings for my daughter aren't that deep. Love that can be easily thwarted by parents is weak, and my daughter doesn't need it."

Laura was taken aback and finally looked up, "Dad."

Derek, however, was delighted, "Of course, I don't want to give up easily. Actually, as long as Laura agrees, even if my parents don't support us, we can live elsewhere. I believe I have the ability to ensure my parents can't force me, and I can protect the Miller family. I just don't want to cause Laura any trouble. Anyway, I respect her and don't want to make her unhappy."

"You sure know how to say the right things." Luke suddenly said, "No wonder you won Laura's heart."

"Dad," Laura blushed.

"You think I can't tell?" Luke said helplessly, "Since he came here today, it means he has your approval. Why did you agree? Isn't it because you like him too? I bet you two have been secretly dating for a while and now don't want to hide it anymore, or maybe you can't hide it for much longer."

Derek was impressed; Luke was indeed someone who had managed a big company, "Yes, we don't want to hide it anymore because we don't like sneaking around. We're both single, and dating should be open and honest. Besides, if we don't get family approval, continuing the relationship would be meaningless."

"That's true." Luke nodded, "In that case, let's do as you say. If your parents don't agree, we won't either. Maybe your parents can't force you, but I can't let Laura suffer."

"Thank you. I will talk to my parents. I'm sure I can convince them. My parents aren't that old-fashioned."

Derek bowed solemnly, then handed Maeve back to Laura before leaving.

Laura, left behind, awkwardly held Maeve, feeling lost under her parents' gaze.

"When did you start seeing him? Don't lie to us," Luke snorted, staring at Laura.

"On New Year's Eve, he came to Silverwood to find me, and I agreed to give it a try."

Laura didn't lie to her parents.

"That long?" Rose was surprised, then looked at Laura with a complicated expression, "You kept it well hidden, and you're quite bold."

"At first, I just wanted to give it a try, thinking if it didn't work out, that would be it. Later, when I went abroad for training, he helped take care of Maeve a lot. He has been there for me in many ways. Despite our similar ages, he's very mature. Being with him, I feel protected."

Laura spoke honestly, "He's also genuinely good to Maeve."

"Did he like you a long time ago?" Luke suddenly frowned and asked.

Laura thought for a moment and said, "He told me later that before I married Michael, he already had feelings for me. But he came too late and didn't know what to do. Even when Michael treated me poorly, he secretly warned Michael to cherish me. But later, when Michael betrayed the marriage and refused to divorce, even trying to take the child away from me, I, as a woman, was no match for Michael. Derek helped me get the divorce. When Michael kicked me and broke my bones, Derek helped me a lot."
