Chapter 1056 David's True Colors
Cassie pondered, 'Wouldn't David mind the strong smell?'
She didn't like the smell and felt that David was becoming more and more vulgar.
"Cassie, you know I am not a sweet tooth," David said hesitantly.
"Come on! I bought it for you." Cassie pretended to be upset. "You know it's rare for me to come to see you."
"Alright, since you bought it for me, I must drink it," David immediately took the milk tea in a flattering manner and took two sips. "It tastes good. Honey, thank you."
He kept calling her "honey," and seeing that Cassie didn't object, he felt joyful. "Cassie, I thought you were still mad."
"I was partly at fault," Cassie said awkwardly, "Let's not bring up the past. By the way, do you have a rag? I stepped in some dirt outside and need to clean my shoes in the restroom."
"Yes." As David thought of Lola hiding inside, he immediately followed Cassie in.
Cassie didn't expect David to follow so closely. After cleaning her shoes, she said, "I need to use the bathroom so that I might take a while. You go ahead and work."
After closing the door, she leaned against it. After a minute, she didn't hear David leaving but instead listened to the faint sound of a cabinet door opening, followed by the very soft sound of high heels, so low that she wouldn't have heard it if she hadn't pressed against the door.
She suddenly remembered that the door was locked when she came in, and the office lingeringly smelled of Lola's perfume.
Cassie thought to herself, 'Could it be that David is having an affair with Lola? When I arrived, did he allow Lola to hide in the cabinet? Now that I am in the bathroom, is he letting Lola sneak out? It's not uncommon for a boss to have a relationship with his secretary, but David always prided himself on being deeply devoted to me and never touching other women. If he couldn't keep his hands off, it is fine, like Lucas, who was openly flirtatious. But it's disgusting that he pretends to be a devoted husband on one hand and has an affair with his secretary on the other.'
The more Cassie thought about it, the more she felt David was hypocritical, completely different from the man she used to know.
While she was lost in thought, David knocked on the door from outside. "Cassie, I'm heading out. Come find me when you're done."
"Okay," Cassie said, "I might take a while longer."
After several minutes, she gently opened the door and went out.
She had originally planned to place a miniature surveillance camera in his office, but now, to confirm her suspicions, she directly inserted it into an outlet.
Spencer had taught her how to do this; it was actually simple and discreet.
After coming out, she chatted with David for a while. When someone came to get his signature, she pretended to look at his bookshelf and placed another camera inside.
Half an hour later, she left the Wit Group, breathing a sigh of relief. She thought to herself, 'Doing spy work is nerve-wracking.'
She handed the surveillance task over to Spencer. "Keep a close watch every day. I suspect David has an affair with Lola."
Spencer was stunned. "How come?"
"My intuition," Cassie said calmly, "The one I placed on the bookshelf isn't very well hidden. David should notice it soon. Hopefully, we can find something quickly."
Spencer nodded.
Cassie thought it would take some time to catch any clues, but she didn't expect Spencer to find explosive content that very afternoon.
Spencer brought his laptop to Cassie and showed her the footage.
On the couch in David's office, where Cassie had sat that morning, David and Lola were having sex.
Cassie felt disgusted, thinking, 'Is this the David I knew?'
At that moment, David's twisted face made her nauseous.
"There's something even more shocking." Spencer switched to another video, this one from the bedroom camera she had placed.
David was holding a whip, and Lola was willingly lying on the bed.
Cassie was dumbfounded. As she was afraid she might actually vomit, she quickly closed the laptop, her face pale.
Spencer looked at her with a complex expression. "I thought you were right before. When you asked me to follow David, he was gentle and kind. It turns out he was acting. He might have known I was following him all along."
Cassie realized that David had noticed Spencer following him but never mentioned it to her. Though they were married, they were practically strangers. "Do you think Arthur came to see me that day because he found out about David and Lola, but David silenced him?"
Spencer shivered. "It can't be. Would David really kill Arthur just because of that?"
Cassie sighed softly. She wasn't sure, but if that were the case, David was terrifying. "Maybe Arthur knew something else. I'm increasingly suspicious that his death wasn't an accident."
"If that's the case, I think you should leave David as soon as possible. It's best to move out of the house," Spencer said worriedly, "David is a pervert. He's hidden it so well as if he has two personalities. You've known him for years and never noticed. Plus, he hit you last time. Maybe his patience will run out someday."
Cassie bit her lip in fear. "If I leave now, how will I find out the cause of Arthur's death? Besides, he won't easily divorce me. Joseph was right; David would slowly torment me. He hasn't shown his true colors because I haven't truly fallen in love with him. If I got pregnant with his child, his true nature would slowly emerge, and that would be the beginning of his revenge."
"These two videos can be used to threaten him into a divorce," Spencer said, "For David, reputation is very important. He definitely wouldn't want these videos to be leaked."
Cassie sighed softly.
Years ago, David had risked his life to shield her from a knife, losing a kidney in the process.
She never thought they would end up like this one day.
"Living with David now is too dangerous. You should lock your door at night and check in with me every day. Otherwise, I'll worry you," Spencer stood up as he said, "Also, don't let Oliver and Sophia interact with him. David might have many affairs with women. From the videos, you can see he's very wild and experienced. Lola can't be his only lover."
