Chapter 199

"Robert found the man vaguely familiar but couldn't place him. Edward, however, stood and said, ""Carter, you usually stick to H-City. What brings you to the company today?""

Olivia Brooks's face froze, realization dawning on her that this was the elusive Carter Harrison of their company.

But he only owned ten percent of the shares, incomparable to her father's sixty percent, and now her father was on the board.

She dismissed Carter Harrison without a second thought, her words dripping with scorn. ""Of course directors are allowed in, but that doesn’t mean you can bring any trash you please.""

Then she cast a contemptuous glance at Cassie.

Cassie arched an eyebrow and retorted, ""Are you referring to yourself?""

""Cassie, have you lost your mind?"" Olivia Brooks sneered with disdain. ""My father is now the Chairman of Peace Group. I can be here whenever I wish. What are you worth?""
""I didn't even cast a vote, how did he become the new chairman?"" Carter said nonchalantly as he pulled out a chair and sat down.

Robert didn't even seem to notice Carter's presence. ""Looks like Carter isn't thrilled with me, but today ten people voted for me. Even if you voted no, it wouldn't have mattered.""

""Yeah,"" Edward chimed in awkwardly, ""Robert becoming chairman is a done deal.""

""He's still the majority shareholder with sixty percent of the stock,"" someone quipped sarcastically.

Wearing a smug expression, Robert warned Carter, 'If you cause trouble, don’t blame me for having you thrown out.
""Who said you're the majority shareholder?"" Carter chuckled. ""At best, you have thirty percent of the shares.""

Robert frowned. ""When my mother passed away, she left all sixty percent of her shares to me.""

""You wish,"" Carter said, throwing a document on the table. ""Grandma had a will. When she died, her sixty percent was split between you and Cassie—thirty percent each. What, did you think you could quietly take it all for yourself?""

The room erupted in murmurs at his revelation.

Robert and Olivia Brooks's faces drained of color. Edward picked up the document and examined it gravely. ""It's true, and it's even got Grandad's signature.""

""That's impossible..."" Robert slammed his fist on the table and stood up.

""What's so impossible?"" Cassie walked over, her gaze sweeping the room. ""I'm sure the shareholders are well aware that Isabella founded Peace Group over twenty years ago. Yes, that’s my mother. This is her company. My grandparents merely gave Robert thirty percent of the shares out of gratitude for raising me. And yet, he’s been insatiably greedy, wanting it all to himself.""

""Shut up,"" Robert spat and swung at her, but someone was faster.

Joe grabbed his arm with a swift move and squeezed hard enough to elicit a scream of pain from Robert.

""Let me go, or you'll regret it,"" Robert threatened.

""If I ever see you try to hit my employer again, next time I won't just stop at your hand,"" Joe warned coldly, finally releasing him.

Robert stumbled back, his hand numb. Olivia supported him, incredulous. ""Cassie, what nonsense are you spouting? For wealth and status, you’d deny your own father? Everyone knows Isabella never married. Where would a daughter come from? Are you out of your mind?""

""That's not what you said before. You yourself stated that I'm not Robert's daughter,"" Cassie retorted, a mocking glint in her eyes. ""Besides, I’m not making this up. It's all clearly written in my grandparents’ will.""
Edward once again nodded in resignation. ""Yeah, it's right there in black and white. Cassie is indeed Isabella's daughter.""
