Chapter 393

Upon her return to the grandeur of Regal Residence, Cassie sought solace in the warmth of a bath. Once cleansed and refreshed, she retreated to the sanctuary of the study, her trusty laptop cradled in her arms.

Reports from the various departments of her company had flooded her inbox, each one detailing the sales data of properties scattered across the country. She skimmed through the emails, her eyes scanning the figures and charts. However, her attention was soon hijacked by an irresistible urge to delve into the mysteries of the Summer Group.

The numbers that greeted her were startling.

Despite being a relative newcomer in the industry, the Summer Group had been in existence for less than half a decade. Yet, it had already shattered the two-hundred-billion mark in market value. It was a formidable force in the tech industry, much like the most profitable subsidiary of Hernandez Enterprises.

The scale of Hernandez Enterprises was a titan in the industry, its influence and reach unshakeable. Yet, the Summer Group had managed to carve out a significant portion of Hernandez's market share, claiming a quarter for itself. This revelation led Cassie to the conclusion that Joseph had been laying the groundwork for this venture in secret five years ago. Was he preparing for the possibility of being cast aside by the Hernandez family?

A chill raced down Cassie's spine at the thought. She realized that there was a depth to Joseph that she had yet to fathom.

"Looking into Summer Group?" Joseph's voice echoed from the doorway, startling her out of her thoughts.

She snapped the laptop shut and spun around to face the figure that seemed to materialize like a specter behind her, her emotions a whirlwind. "No need to close it, I saw it. Did Joe tell you?" Joseph asked, leaning casually against the desk, his demeanor relaxed.

"Yeah." Cassie rushed to defend Joe. "I asked him..."

"That's good, taking an interest in your husband's affairs." Joseph bent down slightly, a gentle smile playing on his lips, clearly in a good mood. "But if you're curious, you can just ask me directly. No need for sleuthing."

Cassie pressed her lips together, choosing to remain silent.

Joseph reached out to pat her head. "Do you think that my starting Summer Group five years ago was some secret plan to target Hernandez Enterprises? Does that scare you?"

"Not really, just being proactive, I guess. I understand."

"You're young, you might not realize, but the most profitable subsidiary wasn't always Hernandez Electronics. Hernandez Enterprises initially focused on finance, and they weren't particularly strong in electronics. When I took over during the financial crisis, the company's profits were, frankly, awful. I had to push the tech sector hard. But I was just the president of Hernandez Enterprises—essentially an employee. I had to cover my bases..."

Joseph continued, "If everything had gone smoothly with my succession in Hernandez Enterprises, Summer would always have been in its shadow, and nobody would have known who really owned Summer."

"But you're not the president of Hernandez Group anymore. You plan to lead Summer to outshine them?" Cassie questioned, her gaze fixed intently on him.

"All the key members of Hernandez's electronics lab have resigned and will be joining Summer soon. Next month, with Hernandez unable to release any new chips, they'll soon be outpaced. The tech world changes daily."

Cassie suddenly felt foolish for her previous assumptions.

She had believed he left Hernandez for her sake.

She was really taken aback at the time.

Well, turns out he had his exit strategy all laid out.

He was never going to fall from grace; he'd stand even taller in the future, unbound and possibly the wealthiest man around.

"Why are you telling me all this? Aren't you afraid I'll spill the beans?"

"You won't. You're my wife," Joseph stated confidently, lifting her from the chair to take her place, and settling her comfortably on his lap.

Cassie cast her gaze downwards, concealing a trace of mockery in her eyes.

Wife?

Come on, even the name Summer is shared with another woman.

Joseph, don't you feel the slightest bit guilty when you say these things?

"Summer... that's a nice name. How did you come to pick it?" Cassie asked casually, as if it was just an afterthought.
