Chapter 1722 "I'm not worth much, easy to support."

"Did you notice how exceptionally hydrated Mr. Miller's face looks today? He must have done some skincare."

"Fuck, even Mr. Miller is doing skincare now? That's strange."

"Mr. Miller must have a girlfriend."

Just then, an employee came to the secretary's office to deliver some documents and overheard the conversation. It didn't take long for the gossip to spread among the higher-ups at the Miller Group.

Even Luke heard about it from his secretary. When Elliott came up to report on work, Luke scrutinized him for a moment. It had only been a day or two since he last saw Elliott, but something seemed different. Although Elliott still had his usual cold expression, as a father, Luke sensed that Elliott seemed less aloof and severe.

"Dad, Mr. Riddick's team has renewed their contract with us. We've negotiated the prices, and it's one percent cheaper than last year. Do you want to take a look at the contract?"

"No need. You handle the company's affairs better than I do. You can make the decision."

Luke waved his hand and smiled, "Are you still not coming home tonight?"

"I have to attend a birthday party tonight," Elliott hesitated.

"It looks like you're serious this time," Luke nodded. "But when you and Isadora decided to get married, I never heard you mention any suitable girls around you. Is this someone new, or have you known her for a while?"

Elliott thought for a moment and decided to let Luke know a bit, "She's a girlfriend I had while studying abroad. We broke up when I returned to the country, but we've had intermittent contact over the past two years."

Luke understood but was quite surprised. He didn't expect Elliott to be so sentimental. "So, all these years, you haven't dated or wanted to get married because you couldn't forget your first love?"

"Yes," Elliott admitted.

"Alright then," Luke didn't ask further. "As long as the girl's family background is clean and she's easy to get along with, that's enough for me. Other conditions are secondary. Since you've known each other for so long, if you're sure, bring her home soon and get engaged. We can't let her stay with you without a proper status. Pick a time, and we can meet her parents as well."

"I understand," Elliott's lips moved slightly. He wanted to tell Luke the truth, but feared Luke wasn't ready for it.

Maybe he should wait?

Wait until Julia is pregnant to bring her home?

Back in his office, Elliott dialed Laura's number, "Can you spare some time this afternoon? I need your help with something."

"Oh my God, you're asking me for help," Laura's voice was filled with surprise.

"I need you to help me pick out a pair of rings," Elliott said directly. He had spent a long time choosing, but found the variety of ring styles overwhelming and knew his taste wasn't great.

On the other end, Laura screamed excitedly, "Fuck! Fuck! Are you proposing to Julia?"

Elliott frowned, "You're a lady, be more refined."

"I don't act like this in front of Derek," Laura huffed. "But Elliott, you're moving pretty fast. Just a few days ago, your future wife was Isadora, and now it's Julia. And wasn't it you who said you didn't love Julia anymore? Do all men like to be contradicted?"

"Do you have time or not?" Elliott's voice turned cold.

"Yes, yes, I've never seen you ask for help like this," Laura said in a strange tone. "You can pick me up at the company at one. I have time during lunch break."

"Alright."

After lunch, Elliott drove to DreamDazzle Beauty Co. to pick up his sister.

"Elliott, can you tell me the price range for the rings?" Laura asked as soon as she got in the car.

"No limit," Elliott said flatly.

Laura's pretty face showed envy, "Even if it's a few million dollars, you'll buy it?"

"Yes."

Laura glanced at the pink diamond Derek had given her and suddenly felt envious. "Elliott, why are you suddenly so good to Julia? I heard she stepped down as president yesterday. Is that true?"

"Yes," Elliott was silent for a few seconds before adding, "Her parents know about us. She left the Jude Group for me."

"Oh my God," Laura was extremely impressed. "Is Julia stupid? She gave up the Jude Group for you. Doesn't she know that in this day and age, a woman's career is the only reliable thing? She's too foolish."

Elliott remained silent.

Is this his sister?

Sensing Elliott's cold gaze, Laura pouted, "I'm just telling the truth."

"Didn't Derek give up a great position at the Presidential Palace for you?" Elliott retorted coldly. "I think he's foolish, too."

Laura's mouth twitched. Was this going to turn into a mutual hurt session?

"Elliott, stop it. It's not our fault that the Miller siblings are so charming," Laura said, winking playfully.

Elliott ignored her and started the car, taking her to the largest mall in Whisperlyn City.

In the end, she helped him pick out a pair of diamond rings, a necklace, and earrings.

When it was time to pay, Laura was envious, "Elliott, can I pick something too?"

"Sure, but the limit is one hundred thousand dollars," Elliott said flatly.

Laura felt devastated, "Elliott, I'm your sister. You didn't hesitate to spend millions on Julia, but you're being stingy with me. That's not fair."

"Don't you have your own money?" Elliott retorted coldly. "I have to support Julia in the future, so I can't spend money on you. Go ask Derek."

Laura didn't want to talk anymore. She felt quite heartbroken, as if Elliott no longer belonged to her alone.

In the end, she reluctantly picked out a small necklace for herself.

After that, Elliott took her to the women's clothing section upstairs, "You have good taste. Help me pick out some clothes and shoes for Julia."

Laura remained silent.

While Elliott wasn't paying attention, she secretly took a photo and sent it to Derek: [I never thought the day would come when my brother would take me shopping for another woman. Crying.]

Derek: [Elliott?]

Laura: [Smart. I never realized Elliott could be so generous to a woman.]

Derek: [Don't worry, I'll take you shopping tomorrow.]

Laura: [Elliott bought Julia a pair of rings worth sixty million dollars.]

Derek: [That's a bit much. How about you buy me one?]

Laura: [Get lost!]

Derek: [Baby, don't worry. I definitely won't ask for a sixty-million-dollar ring. A six-thousand-dollar one will do. Look at how valuable Julia is. I'm different; I'm low-maintenance.]

Laura: [Alright, I'll think about it.]
