Chapter 108
Cassie believed it, feeling all tender as she patted Dakota. "Dakota, you're so brave! You're great!"
Dakota let out a weak meow, her whole body screaming and exhausted.
"Dakota is hungry," Joseph chimed in.
Cassie nodded. After all, giving birth was a tough work.
Then she said, "I'll whip up something tasty for Dakota."
The kitchen lights flicked on again, and Cassie tied on the apron she'd worn before.
Joseph stood behind her, feeling good.
He said, "I'm hungry too."
Cassie pretended not to hear him.
Joseph leaned in close, blowing a breath by her ear. "I said I'm hungry. Did you hear me?"
Her ear tingled, and she almost dropped the spatula.
She glanced back at his annoyingly handsome face and smirked. "Joseph, hasn’t you say that I was as dirty as a bitch and that you'd never eat my cooking again? You'd be disgusted."
Joseph froze for a second.
Did he really say that?
Even if he did, did she have to remember it so clearly?
"I was just talking out of anger. Can't you tell?" He raised an eyebrow. "Any guy who gets hurt like that would be mad. What, just because I'm a man, can't I get angry?"
Cassie was speechless for a moment.
'Fine, you're a lawyer,' she thought.
"Cook for me," Joseph said, tapping the kitchen counter.
"Alright." Cassie forced a smile.
Even though she hadn't been there for a while, she found the fridge was stocked with all sorts of fancy, imported stuff.
She made a special meal for Dakota, but when it came to Joseph, she just made a large dish of Spaghetti.
"So quick," Joseph said, walking over.
When he saw the Spaghetti, he froze.
Then, he looked at Dakota's meal.
The difference between they two was immense.
Dakota, who hadn't had Cassie's cooking in ages, was happily munching away.
Joseph sneered, "So now I'm lower than a cat?"
"Not really. Isn't this how it's always been?" Cassie teased the kitten.
In his eyes, had she ever been more important than a cat?
"Are you getting back at me?" Joseph stared at her, suddenly smirking.
"Nope," Cassie had barely finished speaking when he grabbed her face, making her look straight into his eyes.
Joseph said, "I don't buy it. You're upset."
"I'm not." Cassie felt it was time to lay it all out.
She added, "I admit I shamelessly chased after you before, even used some dirty tricks to get you. I must have been out of my mind back then. I never blamed you for the things you said. You were right. Love should be mutual. Plus, you saved me twice before, and I've been your unpaid maid for so long. Let's call it even. We don't owe each other anymore."
