Chapter 1046 You Finally Showed Your True Colors

Cassie admitted that Joseph had done many things in the past to hurt her.

But no matter what, David shouldn't use those things to force Oliver and Sophia to make a choice.

As Oliver and Sophia were the most innocent, they didn't have the right to choose their parents.

Every child naturally longed for a father. She didn't let Oliver and Sophia recognize Joseph before, partly because she was worried that Joseph, under Megan's hypnosis, would do anything to take Oliver and Sophia away. She was also afraid Megan would harm them as their stepmother.

But now that those concerns were gone, she wasn't as resistant.

No one knew Oliver better than she did. Oliver was a proud boy who cared about his image. What David said would embarrass and guilt him.

"Cassie." A deep hurt flashed across David's face as he was accused. "I just think you and Oliver and Sophia deserve better. Have you forgotten? If it hadn't been for me covering for you back then, Oliver and Sophia would have been taken away by him. What has he done for Oliver and Sophia? Why should he just come back and take them?"

"That's between us," Joseph said to Oliver.

"You!" David's face turned livid with anger.

"Joseph, shut up," Cassie also snapped at Joseph, "You two are making a scene at the kindergarten entrance. Have you thought about Oliver and Sophia? Look around; many people are watching."

Joseph glanced apologetically at Oliver and Sophia. "I didn't want this either, but I don't want David to take Oliver."

David said coldly, "I'm Cassie's husband. Taking Oliver is my right, too."

"You two can keep arguing. I'm taking Oliver and Sophia." Cassie felt embarrassed being watched by the parents and teachers around. She took Oliver and Sophia to the car.

"Cassie." David and Joseph both followed.

Joseph stared at her mask. "Cassie, why are you wearing a mask?"

David stiffened. Cassie turned her face away lightly. "I have a cold. Don't follow us. Oliver and Sophia need to calm down. Don't put them in difficult positions."

She got in the car and quickly drove away.

As Cassie left, Joseph didn't bother arguing with David anymore and prepared to get in his car. David's icy voice came from behind. "Joseph, I'm warning you, stay away from Cassie, or I'll make you and your family wish you were dead. I can even make the Hernandez family disappear."

Joseph's eyes turned cold. "David, you finally show your true colors. You've been hiding well."

"Don't forget how you used my company to threaten me before. Know your place now," David said, glaring at Joseph. He had tried several times to kill Joseph, but unfortunately, Joseph always survived.

After last night, David no longer wanted to endure it.

"Then try it. But let me remind you, Cassie didn't like you even after you pursued her for years. It means you have no appeal to her. Maybe she'll never like you. Don't force what's not yours." Joseph sneered and opened the car door.

"At least I made her feel the pleasure of sex. Can you?" David said, satisfied to see Joseph's stiff posture, then turned and drove away triumphantly.

Joseph watched his car disappear, clenching his fists tightly.

He knew that the attack he suffered at the police station was related to David.

Cassie took Oliver and Sophia back to the Chapman Mansion.

On the way, Sophia was fine, but Oliver seemed down, staring out the window with a cold face.

"Oliver, don't overthink," Cassie comforted, "Don't take David's words to heart. Follow your feelings."

"But Mommy, I think David is right," Oliver said gloomily, "Joseph has done so many things to hurt us. I should never acknowledge him, but recently, I've been going to the Hernandez family with him."

When Oliver played basketball, soccer, and swimming with Joseph, he felt happy and sometimes even admired how good Joseph was at everything.

"Oliver, you're still young. Some things shouldn't be your burden. Joseph never intentionally tried to hurt you," Cassie said seriously, "In the past, Joseph was under Megan's hypnosis. Even though I think he deserved it, he never intended to hurt you. He didn't like me and thought I didn't deserve to have his children. He wanted Megan to take care of you."

"Megan is a vicious woman," Oliver said loudly, "She once hurt Sophia, but Joseph still helped her. He even cut off Camero's finger. Last time, he defended Megan in court, trying to send you to jail."

"That's because he didn't trust me. He was foolish and got deceived by Megan," Cassie said gently, "No matter what happened between him and me, I believe if he had known you were his children, he would have treated you well. If there's anyone to hate, it should be me, not you. I want you to grow up carefree."

"Mom is right." Sophia nodded vigorously. "Oliver, don't overthink."

Oliver glared at her. "You're always the first to betray Mommy. If Joseph buys you candy, you will switch sides."

"Oliver, you're too stubborn," Sophia said indifferently, "Having another dad to buy us candy, clothes, and toys isn't bad. It can save Mommy money. You have no idea how tiring it is to take care of kids. Having Joseph take care of us could have lessened Mom's burden. Besides, I saw on the news that even if he doesn't raise us now, he's still our biological father. Legally, when he gets old, we still have to take care of him."

For the first time, Oliver was stunned by Sophia's words.

Cassie was also a bit stunned. "Sophia, what news did you watch?"

"Legal news with Grandma," Sophia said seriously, "So why should we take care of him in the future if he doesn't raise us now? No way, I won't let him off that easily."

Sophia continued, "Besides, I watched a video with Great-grandma last time. A woman jumped off a building because she was too tired from taking care of two babies. So we can't let Mommy get too tired. Whoever we dislike the most, let them take care of us more. When we're upset, we can go to Joseph. As for Mommy, we can play with her and make her laugh."

Cassie was speechless. Hearing this, she wondered what Sophia had been watching at the Hernandez family recently. "Sophia, I won't jump off a building because I'm taking care of you. Don't worry."
