Chapter 972 Did I Used to Love Cassie?
"It's too vicious." Joseph's hands, resting on his knees, trembled slightly.
"Yeah, quite vicious." Harold nodded, giving Joseph a complicated look. "If you have someone in mind, stay away from them. Of course, I sincerely hope you haven't been hypnotized. Maybe it's all just your imagination."
"Thank you." Joseph stood up and bowed.
When Joseph left Harold's place, he didn't drive. He just walked quietly around the campus, his long legs trembling. In fact, his mind was completely blank.
Joseph also hoped that all of this was just his imagination.
He asked himself inwardly, 'Would Megan risk turning me into an idiot just to hypnotize me? That couldn't be. There is no way Megan could be that vicious. But what if it were true? Oh, no! She was so gentle, kind, and generous over the past three years. I have to get to the bottom of this. Even though I couldn't remember, I have to find out what was wrong with my memory.'
Joseph felt a chill down his spine.
He immediately bought a plane ticket to Silverwood. He didn't tell anyone about this because even Megan, whom he had trusted for over ten years, had made him deeply suspicious, let alone anyone else.
When the plane landed at Silverwood's airport, Mabel called Joseph, "Why haven't you come to the company yet?"
"I'm in Silverwood right now," Joseph replied.
"What?" Mabel was furious. "Didn't I tell you yesterday to visit the chairman of the Garrison Group today? Everyone in Whisperlyn City is trying to collaborate with the Garrison Group but you running off to Silverwood without a word. What are you thinking?"
"I have something important to do," Joseph said quietly.
"How important could it be? Nothing is more important than the Hernandez group." Mabel was extremely annoyed.
"Quite important," Joseph repeated.
Mabel was at a loss for words. "I don't care. Once you're done, you need to come back immediately. Don't forget that you asked me to support the Hernandez family, and I'm swamped every day. Do you want to work me to death?"
"Yes." Joseph ended the call and, after leaving the airport, went straight to the ZF Law Office.
The receptionist thought Joseph was there for a consultation. When she heard he wanted to see Noah, she took him directly to Noah's office.
"How about bowling tonight?" Noah was lounging on a leather sofa. When he saw the tall figure suddenly walk in, he jumped up in fright and quickly hung up the phone.
"Holy crap, Joseph, what are you doing here?" Noah looked Joseph up and down. Joseph was wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt, his hair lazily draped over his scarred face, looking like a disheveled youth.
Noah was shocked. "You've changed a lot."
"When I used to live in the Silverwood villa, you found me a housekeeper named Maria. Can you contact her? I have something to ask her," Joseph asked directly.
"Let me see. It's been a long time. Hold on," Noah said.
Noah made a call to the housekeeping service. After a while, they managed to contact Maria.
"Maria is working as a housekeeper at this villa." Noah gave him an address. "I'll take you there."
"No need." Joseph took the address. "Thanks."
"Don't mention it. It's weird seeing you like this." Noah tossed his car keys to Joseph. "Take my car. Let's have dinner tonight."
"That's rare." Joseph glanced at Noah. "You haven't been in touch with us much lately. Every time you come to Whisperlyn City, you don't look us up. You seem pretty comfortable holed up in Silverwood."
For some reason, Joseph suddenly felt a bit envious of Noah.
Silverwood was small, but here, Noah had basically become the local boss, unlike in Whisperlyn City, where danger lurked everywhere.
Noah gave an awkward smile. "It's not that I intentionally avoided you, Lucas, and Michael. It's just that you three always bring Sarah and Megan along. I really don't like them. I think..."
Noah suddenly stopped. "Forget it."
"Go ahead," Joseph ordered sharply. Even though he was dressed plainly, his aura was still there. "Noah, we've been good friends for over ten years. It's better to clear some things up."
"Alright, I just felt you treated Cassie poorly before. And Megan, I'm not really familiar with her. Maybe I wasn't used to you always bringing Cassie along but then switching to Megan. And Sarah, I don't understand why Lucas insists on being with her. Sarah isn't a good woman. Michael always siding with Megan, and whatever she says goes. He's a complete idiot. And every time we hang out, you guys bring them along. It makes me uncomfortable, so I hang out with you less," Noah said honestly. "Especially in recent years, we often don't have much to talk about."
Joseph was silent. He had noticed before that Noah didn't like Megan and Sarah much, but at that time, Joseph also disliked Cassie, so he pretended not to know it. After all, some good friends did grow apart over time, which was normal.
"Did I love Cassie a lot before?" Joseph asked casually.
"I used to think you liked Cassie a lot. But then I was not sure considering the things you did to her. Maybe Cassie was just a distraction when Megan wasn't around," Noah said with a wry smile.
"Really? Then tell me, what made you think I liked Cassie?" Joseph asked expressionlessly.
Noah looked at Joseph speechlessly. "If you didn't like Cassie, you wouldn't have given her a diamond necklace worth billions. If you didn't like Cassie, you wouldn't have rushed to save her overnight when you found out the Brooks family locked her up. And that time at the construction site, you got injured when you are trying to save her from a stone fell from the roof. If you had been a bit slower, you would've lost your life. And that time..." Noah stopped suddenly. "Forget it. No matter how much you liked Cassie, it probably can't compare to your love for Megan."
"Who told you?" Joseph suddenly smiled, but there was an indescribable sadness in it.
Noah was confused.
"Let's have a drink tonight." Joseph took the car keys and left.
Once in the car, Joseph found his eyes were red. He had no memory of what Noah had said.
But Joseph knew that his sudden question and Noah's quick response couldn't be lies; they were real events that had happened between Cassie and him.
