Chapter 1283: "Cassie, you look so beautiful."

In the toy room.

Joseph was just staring at the door, messing around with his favorite building blocks.

But he wasn't really into it. His mind was all over the place, frustrated. When was Cassie gonna come and cheer him up?

Without her, he didn't care about toys, cartoons, or even food.

As he was lost in thought, he heard those familiar footsteps.

He knew it was Cassie just from the sound.

Joseph quickly ducked his head, pretending to be super into his blocks, acting like he didn't want to talk.

But only he knew that when those footsteps stopped at the door, his heart was racing like crazy.

What was up with that? Was he sick or something?

"You really dig those blocks, huh?" Cassie squatted next to him, her face all smiley with those twinkling eyes, "How about we hit the mall tomorrow and grab some more?"

"Nope." Joseph shot back, turning his face away all huffy.

"Still mad, huh? You're such a little grump." Cassie laughed, resting her face in her hands, elbows on her knees, "Do you even know why I gave you the stink eye this morning?"

"I don't know, and I don't care." Joseph was fuming, but his eyes kept sneaking glances at her.

Cassie almost lost it at his pouty face. She held back her laughter, leaned in close, and whispered, "I know the kiss you wanted wasn't on the forehead, but with Sophia and Oliver around, you wanted me to kiss your lips, and I got shy."

"Why are you so shy?" Joseph was clueless.

"Because kissing on the lips is something we do when it's just us. I don't want others to see; it's private. Who kisses in public?"

"They do it on TV." Joseph shot back, "I saw it this morning."

Cassie felt a headache coming on. What kind of shows were these kids watching? She needed to have a talk with Sophia and Oliver.

Cassie sighed, trying to explain to Joseph, "Anyway, that's just how I am. If you don't like it, I just won't kiss you anymore."

Joseph panicked at her words. He grabbed her hand and said, "No way."

Seeing this, Cassie softened, "Sophia and Oliver are my kids, but you're different. I've told you before, you're the one I love. We won't just kiss; we'll do lots of other intimate things, but not in front of others. It's a privacy thing."

Joseph was a bit confused, but he got the gist, "You're the one I love."

He felt a warm fuzzy feeling, "Do you love me more than Sophia or Oliver?"

"That's a different kind of love; you'll get it someday." Cassie said seriously.

"Oh." Joseph pouted, "So I'm not the special love."

"No, you are the special love." Cassie saw his sad face, glanced at the door, then leaned in and kissed his lips.

Joseph was stunned for a second, then kissed back sweetly, just like Cassie had shown him before.

Even though he was a bit clumsy, he quickly got the hang of it.

Cassie blushed, her heart pounding from the kiss, secretly amazed that Joseph hadn't changed a bit.

After a few kisses, Joseph got the hang of it, and his kisses turned all bossy and intense.

But hey, they were still in the toy room, and there were people outside. She couldn't let this go on too long.

She quickly pushed him away, slightly out of breath, "No more, it’d be a mess if someone walked in."

"Oh." Joseph stared at her blushed face, swallowing hard, "Cassie, you're so beautiful."

Cassie felt like she was floating on a cloud. She lowered her head, poked his chest with her finger, "Then you gotta remember, I'll always be the most beautiful in your heart."

"Yes." Joseph's heart felt like it was gonna burst, and he couldn't stop staring at her. He wished he could be with her all the time.

"Alright, since you're not mad anymore, grab some food, or you'll get hungry." Cassie said, and Joseph couldn't argue.

Plus, he was still kinda hungry. After another plate of food, Cassie took Joseph, Oliver, and Sophia upstairs to rest.

After finally getting the three of them to sleep, Cassie changed her clothes and headed downstairs. Nathaniel pulled up, and they drove to the funeral home together.

Nathaniel asked the funeral director some questions and then headed to where Olivia's body was kept.

But just as they got to the door, they heard Helen and Robert crying inside.

"Olivia, how could you leave us like this? My poor daughter." Helen sobbed. She only had this one daughter. Even though she was mad at Olivia for ditching them in prison, Olivia later saved them and gave them a good life.

Robert was smoking nearby, his eyes red with anger.

His daughter was gone, just like that.

"Why are they here?" Nathaniel was surprised, "Should we still go in?"

Cassie squinted, but before she could say anything, Robert spotted her.

"Cassie, how dare you show up here." Robert was furious when he saw her.

He stormed over, ready to hit her, but Nathaniel quickly stepped in front of Cassie.

Robert stopped in his tracks. He was in his fifties and had been in prison for a long time; he was no match for the young and tall Nathaniel.

But Helen was different. She was completely enraged and didn't care if she could take on Nathaniel. She rushed up, hitting and biting like a madwoman.

"Cassie, you deserve to die. I regret not drowning you when you were little."

"Let go." Nathaniel, scratched up by her, impatiently pushed Helen to the ground.

Helen got up, ready to keep fighting, but Cassie pushed Nathaniel aside, walked over, and slapped her twice.

Helen's face swelled up on both sides, her head buzzing from the slaps.

She wanted to kill Cassie, but when she met Cassie's cold, emotionless eyes, she suddenly felt a bit scared.

She was even afraid Cassie would hit her again and didn't dare to get closer, but she kept cursing, "I raised you with so much effort, and you dare to hit me. You'll get screwed over."
