Chapter 201

"Cassie scoffed, ""That's right, I'm the one who let his nephew indulge in graft, skimming off the top even in the building's facade. You guys can't even handle construction; now you want to be developers? Who in their right mind would buy from you?""

""Exactly, it's unacceptable,"" Maxwell was the first to vocally oppose the idea.

""I need to rethink this. We can't let Peace Group's reputation take a hit.""

As one shareholder after another began to hesitate, Cassie's voice softened as she addressed the group, ""It's true I'm young, but I'm open to learning. Whatever I don't know, I can seek advice from the esteemed uncles and veterans here. Peace Group has come a long way, and regardless of the promises Robert has made, isn't our ultimate goal to see Peace Group profitable and paying dividends?""

""That's right,"" Carter Harrison finally spoke up, his voice authoritative, ""Character matters for the CEO of a public company. Plus, with Cassie as chairwoman, I will support her fully. You all know I assisted Isabella once, and it's thanks to her that Peace Group is what it is today.""

""We trust Carter's capabilities,"" Maxwell nodded in agreement.

""In that case, let's vote again,"" Carter Harrison suggested, glancing towards Edward, reminding him, ""Edward, if I had wanted to compete for the chairman's position, you wouldn’t have been sitting comfortably until today.""

""I agree,"" Edward averted Robert's gaze and nodded, ""Let's start the voting process now.""

One by one, hands were raised. The final tally was nine votes for Cassie, seven for Robert.

""Let us congratulate Cassie on becoming the new chairwoman,"" Carter Harrison initiated a round of applause.
Slamming his fist on the table, Robert's face twisted with rage. ""This ain't some child's play—this election. I won the last round. And who do you think you are?""

""Seems like Mr. Brooks here doesn't take too kindly to losing,"" Cassie replied, her smile a thin veil over the chill in her voice. ""Get one thing straight, if it weren't for my mother's influence, you'd be nothing to this company. Be grateful for what you have.""

""You..."" Robert glared at her in disbelief, incredulous that the once timid figure before him now dared to be so bold.

""Either you stop this nonsense, or I'll have security escort you out,"" Cassie warned, devoid of any sympathy.

Fuming and utterly indignant, Robert realized that amidst the shareholders present, not a soul came to his defense.

""Mr. Brooks, take a seat,"" sighed Edward, the impatience clear in his voice. ""This meeting has been delayed enough. There's much to be discussed.""

""Fine, but before we proceed, the irrelevant parties should excuse themselves,"" Cassie quipped, casting a pointed glance at Olivia Brooks.

Feeling as if she had been slapped in the face, Olivia's eyes reddened, her voice tinged with hurt, 'Cassie, I know you don't like me, but...
""Am I wrong? Do you really belong here?"" Cassie countered sarcastically. ""Miss Brooks, you seem to disregard the company's protocols quite freely.""

""That's enough, leave,"" Edward interjected impatiently.

Olivia Brooks' face paled, and with no option left, she reluctantly left the room.

No sooner had the conference room door closed behind her than tears began to fall. It was only a matter of time before her phone rang.

""Olivia, congratulations are in order, I assume your uncle is now the new director of Peace Group,"" Andrew said cheerily on the other end.

Silence.

Her cheeks might as well have been struck hard.

Oblivious, Andrew rambled on, ""Once your dad takes over, we can kickstart that North Bay project we discussed. The Jones and Brooks families joining forces to create a five-star resort, ruling over North Bay and Madison alike.""

""Can't wait to see Collins and Anderson families' faces when they're left in the dust,"" he laughed.

""Olivia, why the silence?""

After some time, Andrew finally noticed her quietude."
