Chapter 1141 Hatred Makes Me Exhausting

"Laura, that night when you suddenly cried, I thought it was because of Lucas and me, but it was actually because you ran into Benjamin, right?" Michael said out of the blue. "Hearing what he said today, I knew he must have said something nasty that night to make you lose it. Don't mind him. Benjamin's an idiot, just like I used to be. He's not worth your tears."

"I'm not sad because of him. I stopped caring about him ages ago. I'm just upset that I gave everything and got nothing in return," Laura said, a bit bitterly.

"I get it. It's like how I was with Megan. She treated me like a fool, looked down on me. What did I do wrong? I graduated from a top university and started my own company," Michael paused, then suddenly said, "How about I get some drinks? You can have water. Just talking is boring."

"Whatever you want," Laura replied after a pause.

If she weren't pregnant, she would've loved a drink herself.

Michael ordered two bottles of alcohol.

But Michael couldn't hold his liquor and got drunk after just one meal.

Drunk, Michael clung to the bottle and vented. "I know Joseph, Lucas, and you are laughing at how stupid I am. I feel so dumb, like a fool. It's all because of Megan. She thought I was useless, said I wasn't as good as Joseph or Lucas, and even the Jude family didn't want me. I'm worthless. I saw Megan kissing Jacob with my own eyes. Even when I caught her, she wasn't flustered. She even blamed me. I don't get what I did wrong. Even if she didn't love me, I treated her with utmost care for over a decade. Was I just there for her to humiliate me?"

Laura initially found it annoying to listen, but seeing the tears in his eyes, she didn't know whether to call Michael foolish or pitiful.

In fact, Michael was quite similar to Laura.

They both loved someone deeply and gave their all, only to receive no gratitude.

Laura silently drank her water until they finished eating. Then she called Derek.

About half an hour later, Derek arrived and saw the utterly drunk Michael. He was speechless. "It's just dinner time, and he's already this drunk?"

"He might be in a bad mood. You should take him home," Laura said, feeling a headache from his constant rambling. She regretted inviting him to dinner.

Derek looked at her in surprise and smiled. "I thought you hated him. Do you want me to deal with him to help you vent your anger?"

"Forget it. Hating someone takes energy. I don't want to hate anymore. It's too tiring and pointless. Besides, I don't want to be a tool for the Jude family." Laura smiled, waved her hand, picked up her bag, and prepared to leave.

"Wait, I'll take you home," Derek called after her.

"Don't bother. I have something to do." Laura left.

Derek watched her leave, feeling a mix of emotions.

The Jude family's plan was for Michael to pursue Laura, let her vent her anger, and then reconcile so the baby would have a father. Michael could also return to the Jude family, saving face for everyone.

But no one asked Laura if she was on board.

However, Laura probably understood everything, even though she appeared confused.

The next day, when Michael woke up, it was already late.

He sat up and found the place somewhat familiar but couldn't immediately recall where he was.

Then Derek walked in. "Michael, you're awake."

Michael was stunned for a few seconds, then remembered it was Derek's place.

"You finally recognize me," he glared at Derek. "Last time I called you, you didn't answer. I thought you planned to ignore me forever."

Derek smiled. "You know I always listen to Grandpa. If he hadn't agreed, I wouldn't have acknowledged you."

"He agreed?" Michael didn't react. "Agreed to what?"

"He agreed to let you return to the Jude family." Derek leaned against the cabinet, arms crossed.

"Really?" Michael was overjoyed. "I knew Grandpa still cared about me. What he said before must have been in anger."

"You're overthinking it," Derek interrupted. "Laura went to the Jude family last night. She asked Grandpa, James, and Caroline to let you return. So Grandpa agreed."

Michael was shocked. He remembered having dinner and chatting with Laura last night. Their relationship had eased a bit, but he didn't expect Laura to go to the Jude family and ask them to let him return.

The more he thought about it, the more he realized how awful he had been.

Laura, in the end, was just a stubborn but soft-hearted person.

She appeared sharp and harsh, sometimes saying hurtful things, but she still helped Michael.

Michael lowered his head, feeling heavy-hearted despite the good news. "By the way, I had dinner with her last night."

"You got drunk, and she called me to pick you up." Derek sighed. "You're so lucky to meet such a wonderful woman like Laura, but you didn't cherish her."

"Don't make it sound like she was ever mine," Michael said, feeling complicated. "She never liked me."

"True." Derek touched his chin. "It's a pity Caroline insisted my dad take her as a goddaughter. There are many ways to make amends. If you don't want to marry her, I want to marry her. I don't mind that she's pregnant. What a pity."

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Michael was speechless, shocked, and a bit inexplicably angry at Derek's words. "Are you crazy? It would be a joke if it got out."

"Don't make it sound so bad. Your child was an accident," Derek said lazily. "I don't mind as long as I like her."

"Derek, Laura is now your nominal sister. Put away those dirty thoughts," Michael warned.
