Chapter 1504 Who Upset You? I'll Go Beat Them Up
Cassie smirked and said, "Nope, it's Michael. He's tying the knot with Megan."
The elevator went dead silent.
Laura finally muttered, "Oh."
"If you wanna curse, just go for it," Cassie suggested.
"Forget it, there's nothing to curse about. We're divorced, and I don't have any feelings for him anymore," Laura said, sounding defeated. "I just feel like a bigger idiot every day."
"This wedding is probably Megan's way of rubbing it in your face," Cassie said with a sneer. "Michael doesn't realize all his behaviours to please Megan has just brought the enmity of everyone in the Whisperlyn City to a new level."
"Whatever." Laura forced a bitter smile. She didn't know about how everyone else would take it, but she was definitely disgusted.
The elevator doors slid open on the executive floor.
Cassie linked arms with Laura and led her out. "Come on, I hired a new assistant today. Let me introduce you."
"What assistant? You can meet them yourself."
When the office door opened and Laura saw Magnus in a black suit, she was stunned. Wasn't this Michael's assistant?
"What are you doing here?" Laura asked.
"Hello, Ms. Miller," Magnus said, nodding awkwardly.
"I paid a lot to get him on board," Cassie said with a grin. "He recently quit the Ocean Blue Group and was job hunting. Since we're planning to acquire Ocean Blue, we need to know it inside out. So I badgered him into accepting my offer."
"Ms. Brooks, please don't say that," Magnus said quickly. "Your company has plenty of capable people."
"I know your skills well. You've been with Michael from the start of Ocean Blue to the energy company with the Jude Group. I promise, if you work hard, I'll make you the general manager."
Cassie looked at him with admiration.
Magnus blushed and nodded eagerly. "Ms. Brooks, feel free to give me any tasks. I have experience in operations, planning, and I know a lot of people in public relations."
"Magnus, thank you. We need talents like you."
Cassie encouraged him.
Laura watched in amazement until Magnus walked up to her and said apologetically, "Ms. Miller, I'm really sorry about you and Mr. Jude. I tried to advise him when he was taking care of Megan, but he..."
"Don't say it. I know what kind of person he is better than anyone. He won't listen to advice. Magnus, welcome to our company. We're colleagues now."
Laura shook his hand.
After Magnus left, Laura looked at Cassie with admiration. "Since when you reached to Magnus? I had no idea. And Magnus is Michael's most trusted assistant. He's been with Michael for seven years. Aren't you worried he might flip and act against our company?"
"Don't worry, I only approached him after he resigned voluntarily."
Cassie reassured her, "And it was Joseph's idea. He said Magnus is a talent and asked me to bring him on board."
Since it was Joseph's idea, Laura didn't oppose it as much. After all, Joseph's business acumen was something they needed to learn from.
"I also did some digging on Magnus. He didn't leave because Michael was down and out. He left because Michael's reputation tanked, and his girlfriend and family didn't want him working with Michael, worried he'd pick up some bad habits like infidelity. I talked to Magnus, and he doesn't approve of some of Michael's actions."
Laura nodded and said, "But with Magnus's skills, he could get a job anywhere. Why would he come to our DreamDazzle Beauty Co, a small startup?"
"We're small now, but that doesn't mean we will be forever."
Cassie shot Laura an annoyed look. "Everyone knows the background of DreamDazzle Beauty Co. My backer is the Hernandez Group, and Declan. Your backer is the Presidential Palace. People are lining up to work for us. But I did put in some effort to bring Magnus over. I gave him and his girlfriend a house for their wedding."
Laura, transfixed, blurted out, "Houses in Whisperlyn City are crazy expensive."
"They are, but the Peace Group is in real estate. The last thing I lack is houses," Cassie said with a smile. "Almost all the major and minor affairs of the Ocean Blue Group over the years have gone through Magnus, some even handled independently by him. The resources and strategies he holds are worth more than a house. Michael is busy planning a wedding for Megan. He probably never thought I'd poach Magnus."
Laura didn't say anything. She cast a look of revere at Cassie as if she were a formidable figure. "Cassie, I realize you're really amazing now. Have you learned a lot of tricks from Joseph?"
"There's some influence, of course. Anyway, I promised you, we will definitely trample Michael underfoot," Cassie sneered. "By then, we'll make Michael crawl over, bow his head in front of you, and obediently work under us."
Laura's eyes reddened. She hugged Cassie before returning to her office.
Laura knew Cassie was trying hard to help her get revenge, but she still felt very upset.
Laura took out her phone and sent Derek a sad emoji.
Derek: [What's wrong?]
Laura: [I'm in a bad mood.]
Derek: [Who upset you? I'll go beat them up.]
Laura: [It's Michael. Will you help me beat him up?]
Derek: [Sure, on my way.]
Laura thought he might be joking, but still replied: [I'm kidding. I just heard that Michael is going to have a wedding with Megan. Be honest, did you know about this already? It's not that I still like Michael, I just feel it's not worth it for me. People outside must be laughing at me, saying I had a child but didn't even have a wedding. I'm just a joke.]
Derek: [I only found out yesterday. Julia said she wouldn't let anyone from the Jude Family attend Michael's wedding. By then, Michael and Megan will be the joke of Whisperlyn City.]
Laura was stunned and replied: [Did you ask Julia to do that?]
Derek: [It was Julia's own idea. Laura, I understand how you feel. Don't worry, I believe that one day, your Mr. Right would give you a grand wedding and make you the bride evnvied by all.]
Laura laughed and sent: [Don't tease me. I'm a divorced woman with a child. There's no Mr. Right for me.]
Derek: [Don't say that. You adorable face is inviting many men to like you. You just need to learn more about what's in a man's mind.]
