Chapter 577
Cassie reached the end of her tether.
With a surge of desperation, she lunged forward, shoving Joseph as words tumbled from her lips. "Joseph, why must you be so callous? Have you lost all semblance of humanity? Because of Megan, you've inflicted pain on me and those around me, time and time again. What sins did I commit in a past life to be cursed with you?"
Overwhelmed, Cassie sank to the floor, her body wracked with uncontrollable sobs.
Joseph felt an unexpected tightness in his throat. His heart constricted as if gripped by an invisible hand, making it difficult for him to draw breath.
" Cassie, please stop crying," Laura implored, struggling to rise and comfort her friend. But the moment she attempted to move, a sharp pain caused her to crumple off the bed.
"Laura, don't move," Cassie rushed to assist her, helping her back onto the bed.
"Listen to me, it's fine, let it go. Don't investigate anymore. After all, I haven't been treated well," Laura grasped Cassie's hand, forcing a smile onto her face.
"No," Cassie shook her head, determination etched on her face. "If Nathan is not sentenced this time, he will become even more unhinged next time. I don't want you to compromise for me. I must ensure Nathan goes to jail."
She turned to Joseph, her teeth gritted and her eyes blazing. "Fine, let Dr. Angelino go then. My dad's illness will never be cured anyway."
" Cassie, are you challenging me?" Joseph's face darkened.
Cassie scoffed, "Who is the one truly being forced here?"
"Joseph, Cassie is not the victim. She shouldn't make decisions for me," Laura interjected anxiously. "I said I won't pursue it, so I won't. I have the final say in this matter."
"Laura."
"Don't say another word," Laura cut her off, determination flashing in her eyes. "We are friends. Even if you were the victim today, you would do the same."
Tears welled up in Cassie's eyes. Her love life was in shambles, but at least she had a steadfast friend by her side. Unfortunately, the man she loved deeply was the one causing her friend pain.
Cassie rose to her feet, liftin g her chin defiantly. "Even if Laura agrees, there is still another victim in this case. He won't."
"I agree to a settlement."
David's voice echoed from the doorway. Cassie turned to see him entering the room, leaning on his assistant for support, his arm still immobilized by a wooden splint.
With each step David took, the pain etched on his face grew more pronounced. "You continue treating Leo Chapman, and we'll let this matter go."
"David ." Cassie's voice wavered, her eye s welling up with fresh tears.
David didn't look at Cassie. His gaze was fixed on Joseph, cold and filled with hatred. "You don't appreciate this woman. You keep hurting her. Joseph, if you have any shred of decency left, divorce Cassie and stop tormenting her for the sake of other women. She is already scarred because of you."
Joseph's gaze shifted from the tear-streaked Cassie to David, who was standing by her side. A wave of anger washed over him. "Whether I divorce or not is my business. She shamelessly seduced me in the first place , she's getting what she deserves."
"Who seduced you? It was you who used every trick in the book to steal her from me. She is my fiancée," David retorted, his voice seething with rage.
"So what if she's your fiancée?" Joseph laughed, a chilling glint in his eyes that even he didn't notice. " Cassie willingly slept with me, and she's still clinging to me relentlessly."
Cassie had reached her breaking point. "Who is it that clings to you? If you're willing to divorce now, I'll leave this instant," she declared.
Joseph retorted with a sneer, "Oh, so since your attempts to seduce me have failed, you've decided to choose David as your backup plan?"
With a cruel grip, Joseph seized Cassie's chin. " Cassie, I will never allow another man to father my children. Even if you wish to leave, you must first give birth to our children, just in time to make way for Megan."
His words pierced her like a blade, each syllable a fresh wound in her heart. The pain was so intense that Cassie found it difficult to draw breath.
"If you're so fond of Megan, why not let her bear your children? Why must you rob me of mine?" Cassie pleaded, tears coursing down her cheeks.
Joseph's gaze flickered, his handsome face cold as he turned away. "No. Childbirth is too painful. I can't bear to let Megan endure it. She can simply enjoy being Mrs. Ho, basking in my love."
"Joseph, you monster. You're not human," Cassie retorted, unable to bear his words any longer.
Megan was spared the pain of childbirth, while Cassie was left to bear it all. Was he even human? Cassie momentarily forgot her own pregnancy, charging at Joseph like a feral creature, striking and biting him.
"You madwoman," Joseph exclaimed.
Caught off guard by her bite, Joseph resisted the urge to kick her away. "Someone, restrain her," he commanded.
At his shout, several bodyguards rushed in from outside, quickly subduing Cassie.
"Joseph, what are you doing? Release her," David managed to interject, despite his pain. He was swiftly pushed aside by a bodyguard, leaving him incapacitated.
"Joseph, if you want to lash out at someone, let it be me. Don't harm the innocent," Cassie implored, her gaze burning with hatred.
"Don't worry, I won't hurt him. But to prevent you from betraying me during your pregnancy, you'll be confined," Joseph declared.
Joseph's handsome face was tense as he looked at David, his demeanor growing even colder. After finishing his statement, he roughly hoisted Cassie into his arms and exited the hospital room.
"Release me," Cassie demanded.
Despite Cassie's struggles and even a successful scratch across Joseph's face, her efforts were futile.
Upon entering the car, Joseph promptly bound Cassie with a rope.
"Joseph, why are you treating me this way? Release me," Cassie pleaded.
Cassie struggled fiercely, but Joseph remained unmoved.
The car sped towards the city center.
He carried her directly into the bedroom, his expression dark as he issued a warning. "Since you can't behave properly at the estate, you'll live here from now on. Without my permission, you're not allowed to leave. Stay here obediently until the children are born."
