Chapter 1287: I Am Her Husband

"Yo, just so you know, my cousin pissed off a lot of folks when she was alive," Cassie cut in, talking to the cops.

Helen was fuming, "And the one she pissed off the most was you."

"Mom," Cassie's eyes welled up, "Am I your real daughter, or is Olivia? You and Dad got hurt guarding Olivia's memorial, and I just wanna know who pushed you. Why do you always blame me?"

"Is that the same? Olivia got your dad and me outta jail, and you put us in," Helen snapped back.

Cassie shot back, "If you and Dad hadn't caused Grandma's death, would I have done that? Grandma was good to me since I was a kid. I had to follow the law. I had no choice."

"Caused your grandma's death?" The cop's eyes narrowed. Wasn't that the biological mother of this injured person?

Someone who could harm their own mom—did such a person even have a soul?

The cop's gaze towards Robert turned icy.

"I didn't," Robert stammered, looking nervous, "I was framed."

"Say whatever you want, the case was closed over three years ago. I don't know what trick Olivia used to get you out, but as long as you can sleep at night," Cassie said with a bitter smile.

"Enough," the cop said coldly, not wanting to hear more. "I'll look into the break-in at the funeral home, but I can't promise I'll find the mastermind."

Seeing the cop's indifferent attitude, Helen got pissed, "You're the police; it's your job to solve cases. You gotta find out."

"We can't solve every case. Every year, the department racks up a ton of cold cases," the cop said and walked off.

Facing someone who could harm their own mom, he felt like decking them.

"Get back here," Helen yelled as the cop walked away. She grabbed a cup from the table and chucked it at Cassie, "You little brat. Ouch, it hurts."

The cup didn't go far, but Helen's waist hurt so much she collapsed onto the bed.

"What are you doing?" Joseph saw the cup almost hit Cassie and angrily stepped in front of her, glaring at Helen.

He was tall, and when he was mad, his eyes were fierce.

Helen was scared, "What do you wanna do? I'm telling you, this is a hospital, and there are cameras everywhere."

"Mom, I don't wanna do anything," Cassie held Joseph's hand and smiled, "Don't worry, if the cops have any news, I'll let you know right away."

"No need to trouble you; I'll handle their matters." A familiar voice suddenly came from behind, gentle in tone.

But Cassie felt a chill run through her whole body.

She turned around and met David's smiling eyes.

David said, "Hey dear, you came to see Mom and Dad too."

Cassie felt like throwing up.

Joseph frowned at the guy in front of him, slightly shorter than himself, wearing a black suit and looking sharp, but he instinctively disliked him.

Especially David's "dear," which made Joseph's skin crawl.

"Cassie, who the heck is this guy?" Joseph tugged at Cassie's hand, sounding like a kid.

David's eyes flicked over Joseph, a sneer playing on his lips, "I'm her husband."

Joseph blinked, "What's a husband?"

David laughed, his eyes full of mockery, "I heard you got dumb. Seeing you now, it's true."

"Who you calling dumb? You're the idiot," Joseph shot back, "Ugly jerk."

Cassie, who had been grossed out by David, now felt a bit better thanks to Joseph.

"Joey, you don't get it. He's not just ugly, he's a snake, always trying to steal other people's stuff and scheming all the time." Cassie casually linked her arm with Joseph's and mocked David.

Joseph nodded seriously, "Got it. He's a bad dude."

David's face twisted, but seeing Joseph's clueless look, he sneered again, "Cassie, are you really gonna stick with this guy forever, playing his nanny? I'm really curious."

"Whatever I do, it's better than dealing with you, David. Keep acting all high and mighty, but let me remind you, don't think you can do whatever you want just because Ralph's got your back. The crap you've pulled will come out eventually."

Cassie glanced at Robert and Helen, "Also, Olivia was actually killed by you, right? But you probably fed them a bunch of lies, making them think I did it. Once Olivia's shares in the Hernandez Group go to them, you can control them. It won't be long before the Hernandez Group is yours."

"Olivia was always under Declan's watch, with people from the President's office guarding her. How could I make a move?" David put on a righteous face, "But you, Laura is your person, and Michael is tight with you. Killing Olivia would be as easy as squashing a bug. You've hated Olivia for ages and wanted her gone. Now that she's dead, I bet your next move is to deal with Robert and Helen. The funeral home break-in was your doing, wasn't it?"

Robert and Helen looked terrified.

"Mr. Foster, you gotta save us. Cassie has people watching us; she must be planning to kill us secretly," Helen pleaded.

"Don't worry, I'm your son-in-law. I'll definitely save you," David clapped his hands, and a group of people appeared at the hospital room door, "These are the bodyguards I've handpicked. With them here, no one can get close to you."

"Thanks," Robert nodded, then glared at Cassie, "Get out."

"Son-in-law?" Cassie smirked, "You really are shameless, but I get your game now. Let's go."

She pulled Joseph and walked out.

Nathaniel immediately followed, "Ms. Brooks, should I stay here?"

"Why stay? David's here. Don't worry, I never planned for you to stay. I knew David wouldn't let it," Cassie said calmly.
