Chapter 297
"Cassie entered without glancing at him, heading straight for the kitchen for cleaning supplies. When she couldn't find them, she proceeded to the balcony.
Sitting silently on the sofa, Joseph's handsome features grew increasingly icy.
What was going on? She was supposed to confront him about giving the land to Clark, then plead desperately with him.
The script needed to play out as he had anticipated. With an air of detachment, Joseph rose and approached her.
Finally finding a broom on the balcony, Cassie turned, crashing into his firm chest, pain shooting through her nose. ""Joseph, what are you doing?"" she exclaimed.
""That's what I should be asking you."" Just being around her was intoxicating for Joseph; her absence vexed him, and her presence was even more annoying.
""Aren't you the one who asked me to clean? It's late, and I want to finish up and sleep. Could you move, please?"" Cassie maneuvered past him, seriously beginning her cleaning efforts in the living room.
Joseph watched her sweep intently and felt the urge to rush over and toss her broom aside.
Did this foolish woman think he wanted her to clean? ""Cassie, don't you have anything you want to say to me?"" he asked.
He might reconsider his promise to Luna if she could beg him and flatter him sufficiently to his satisfaction about the land deal.
Cassie paused, then shook her head. ""No.""
Joseph glowered at her momentarily, then coldly commanded, ""Go clean the bathtub and fill it. I want to take a bath.""
Silently, Cassie set down the broom and headed upstairs. The bathtub in the bathroom was enormous, spanning two meters in width and embedded into the floor.
All she could do was hunch over, scrubbing it down with a cloth from above.
Joseph walked in just as she knelt in a rather suggestive pose, her clothes revealing a slender, smooth waist, her skin like satin in the light.
His eyes darkened. He was about to step closer when her phone rang.
Unaware of his presence behind her, Cassie pulled out her phone. David's name flickered on the screen.
She hesitated, feeling uneasy in Joseph's house.
About to ignore the call after silencing the phone, she suddenly felt a hand snatch it away.
Startled, she turned to find Joseph toying with her phone. He looked at the blinking name on the screen and sneered. ""Isn't it wrong to ignore a call from your fiancé?""
""Give me back my phone,"" Cassie said, reaching to grab it, but he held it just out of reach, taunting her with the height.
""Are you in a hurry?"" Joseph's eyes were cold as ice. ""Are you afraid your fiancé will find out you're here with me late at night?""
""Have you had enough?"" Cassie was furious now.
""Are you really that worried about him?"" Joseph's eyes narrowed, and he answered the call without hesitation; David's warm voice filled the air.
""Cassie, where have you been? It took you so long to answer.""
Cassie's heart nearly stopped, and she glared at Joseph, praying he wouldn't say a word.
But he remained silent. He turned on the speaker and whispered into her ear with his seductive voice, ""If you don't tell him, I will.""
