Chapter 1186 She Resembled Nina During Her Teenage Years
Max said, "A good actor only gets better with experience. By the way, if you don't speak up, I'll bring Sarah back and say it was your idea, okay?"
"You really know how to use me," Lucas shot back sarcastically.
"What else can I do? Everyone knows Sarah's your woman; I can't control her," Max said awkwardly. "Why don't you talk to her yourself?"
"No, I don't want to be too direct; it would sound worse." Lucas hung up.
On set.
Bernice finished her lunch and leaned back in a lounge chair, ready to rest.
Stella hurriedly said, "Don't rest now. The afternoon shoot is about to start. Even though your performance this morning stunned Callie, she doesn't like divas."
"You're overthinking it. I just feel like I might not be able to shoot this afternoon," Bernice said lazily, sipping water.
Stella was stunned. "Why?"
Bernice's lips curved slightly.
Just then, the door to the lounge was kicked open.
Sarah stormed in angrily. "Bernice, you're really good at playing mind games."
"What are you talking about?" Bernice tilted her head, looking innocent.
"Stop pretending," Sarah snapped. "This morning, you dressed up to outshine me in our scenes. You overshadowed me, making it impossible for Callie to keep me as the lead. The company called me back. The lead role is yours now."
Stella was dumbfounded. She glanced at Bernice and finally understood why Bernice had said she might not be able to shoot this afternoon.
Bernice chuckled. "Is it my fault your acting can't keep up with mine? Is it my fault you weren't born as good-looking as me?"
Sarah glared at her venomously and sneered. "Bernice, don't think that just because you got the lead role today, you can reach the top. I'm about to marry Lucas, who controls half the entertainment industry. No matter how high you climb, I can bring you down anytime. Compete with me, and you'll regret it."
"Haven't you already made me remember?" Bernice's eyes turned sharp. "You had my hotel arranged in the most remote place, arranged a broken car to make me late, and even bribed the living and costume departments. My lounge isn't even as good as a fourth lead's. Sarah, you haven't even married into the Nelson family yet, but you're already so good at bullying."
"You deserve it," Sarah said coldly. "I've never seen someone as shameless as you, seducing my fiancé."
"It seems you know what shame is." Bernice remained reclined in the lounge chair, not even bothering to get up. Even though she had to look up at Sarah, her aura was undiminished. "At least I've earned my place with my acting skills. And you? As a singer, you plagiarized your friend's music. As an actress, if it weren't for Lucas pulling strings, would you have won any awards? Honestly, you should focus on pleasing Lucas in bed. Maybe next year, he can buy you a Best Actress award."
Stella shivered as she looked at Bernice's icy face, thinking, 'Bernice shows Sarah no mercy. She is really gutsy.'
"Fine, Bernice. I'll make sure Lucas hears every word you said. Your career is over," Sarah spat, turning away, trembling with anger.
As she left, she kicked the lounge door hard.
The onlookers outside, seeing her furious face, quickly scattered, not wanting to get caught in the drama.
Stella looked at Bernice, panicked. "I know you hate Sarah, but aren't you pushing it? She's Mr. Nelson's fiancée, and even Mr. Jenkins respects her."
"It doesn't matter. If I can't act, you can start a business with me," Bernice said nonchalantly. "I'm better at entrepreneurship than acting anyway."
Stella was speechless. "Please, don't lie to me. You've never started a business in your life. Besides, the Nelson family can easily ruin someone."
"I know." Bernice smiled, a hint of mockery in her expression.
No one understood better than her because Lucas had already destroyed her once before.
Soon, Callie called an emergency meeting. "Sarah is getting married at the end of the year and won't have enough time to shoot, so Bernice will take over the lead role. Also, the second lead will join the crew the day after tomorrow, so everyone can take a break for the next two days. Bernice, use this time to familiarize yourself with the lead role's script."
"Okay," Bernice said, taking the script amid everyone's surprised gazes.
No one believed Sarah quit because of her wedding.
It was more likely that Sarah knew Bernice's acting was too good, and staying on as the lead would only highlight her own shortcomings. This was also why Bernice and Sarah had argued at noon.
However, everyone wisely kept silent.
With no shoot in the afternoon, Bernice took a car back to the hotel.
She planned to take a bath and then stay in Whisperlyn City for two days.
Because the bathroom was too hot, she came out wrapped in a towel.
But as soon as she stepped out, she froze upon seeing the figure sitting on the sofa. Lucas was still in his morning attire, wearing an expensive shirt and trousers, looking refined and handsome.
"Lucas, how did you get in?" Bernice was flustered. In such a situation, she couldn't remain composed.
"I walked in through the door," Lucas said, holding up a thin room card between his long fingers.
He looked at Bernice with great interest. The pink towel wrapped around her body, but her exposed shoulders and legs were dotted with water droplets. Her thick hair was freshly washed and not yet dried, and her delicate face and collarbone could drive any man crazy.
But what captivated Lucas was her eyes, as clear as if washed by water.
She resembled Nina during their teenage years.
On their first night together, Nina came out of the bath looking just like this, with wet hair and eyes that seemed washed by water, showing a bit of nervousness and trying to stay calm.
Lucas suddenly felt his body heating up uncontrollably.
Many people said he was a playboy, but he knew he wasn't someone who indulged in women.
However, at this moment, he felt like a young boy experiencing desire for the first time.
