Chapter 88

"Besides, he couldn't even imagine Cassie being with another man. ""Uncle, I think you've gone mad. Some people are not as innocent as they appear...""

David calmly cut him off. ""I have a bigger career, a long-term vision, and a few years more experience than you. So kindly refrain from speaking out of turn in front of me. Furthermore, as a man, are you really okay with slandering your childhood sweetheart and ex-girlfriend?""

Arthur's handsome face turned red from being called out. ""I'm doing this for our own good. Grandpa and grandma will never accept her.""

""Is it for their good or to satisfy your own selfish desires? We both know the answer,"" she retorted.

Just then, the elevator door opened.

David grabbed Cassie's hand and led her inside, keeping Arthur's angry face at bay.

In the closed space, Cassie was at a loss for words.

David glanced at her and thought she was scared. He smiled and patted her head.

""You were so bold at the banquet just now!""

Honestly, even he was shocked.

It was the most memorable banquet he had ever attended. But Cassie's bold and captivating performance on the table was quite amusing.

Cassie instinctively moved away from him. Her mind was still in a daze.

""Are you Arthur's uncle?"" she asked.

""Yes,"" David admitted candidly. ""I recently figured out your identity. I know about your relationship with Arthur. He used to talk about you a lot. I'm truly sorry for what Arthur did to you. Of course, through the design of the villa, I understand that you are a talented and precious girl.""

""Then why did you lie to me before? You said you were Arthur's distant relative.""

""You resent Arthur, and I didn't want my identity to bias your opinion of me,"" David explained sincerely. ""I genuinely appreciate you!""

Cassie took a deep breath. ""Does Arthur have any other uncles besides you?""

David smiled and shook his head. ""No.""

Cassie felt like she was about to faint.

What about Joseph? Wasn't he supposed to be Arthur's uncle?

And where was Laura? She really wanted to peel her skin off layer by layer.

Who was the one who confidently claimed to be right? This is how she ended up in such a miserable situation.

""Are you... alright?"" David looked at her pale face. He was afraid she might faint at any moment.

""I'm fine. Maybe the outburst earlier pushed me too far. I need to go back, rest, and calm down,"" Cassie replied.

Cassie stepped out of the elevator, feeling like she was going crazy.

""Let me walk you to your car,"" David said, still concerned.

""No, I'll be fine."" Cassie nodded.

""Alright, just be careful and send me a message when you get home,"" David insisted, escorting her to the car.

After Cassie's car left the hotel, she immediately called Laura.

""Where are you?""

""Just finished an exam. I'm looking for a place to eat. I have another one in the afternoon. By the way, I called Benjamin earlier. You were incredible...""

""I'm coming to meet you now. I need to talk to you about something. Oh, and by the way, go buy yourself a suit of armor to protect yourself. I'm afraid I might end up killing you!"" Cassie said menacingly."
