Chapter 1022 Isabella's True Identity
Cameron leaned back on the sofa and lit another cigarette.
Joseph watched him, growing anxious until Cameron finally spoke again. "Over ten years ago, when I went to Neya City, I met Ariana Elizabeth, the real power behind the city. She looks a lot like Cassie."
Joseph was taken aback, and a realization hit him. "Do you think she's related to Cassie?"
After a moment of silence, Cameron said softly, "I remember Ariana. Shortly after Cassie was born, she was caught in a typhoon while abroad."
"I didn't think much of it at first, but when I came back this time and saw Cassie's photo because of what happened between you two, I couldn't ignore it."
Cameron took a deep drag of his cigarette. "There's no mistake. Over ten years ago, Ariana was only thirty, stunning. I could never forget her. Her life was quite legendary. She owned Emerald Haven Island, developed its oil and iron mines, and later married Declan Wittelsbach of Neya City. Declan controls global maritime routes, and the Wittelsbach family's banks are worldwide."
"Dad, I've heard of the Wittelsbach family," Joseph said, swallowing hard.
He had once been the richest man in Madison, so he knew more than most.
Although the world's richest people are listed every year, that's just the surface. The truly wealthy and mysterious families stay low-key, with no media daring to report their names.
The Wittelsbach family was one of those.
Even the once-prominent Hernandez family was minor compared to the Wittelsbachs.
But he had only heard of the Wittelsbach family; this was the first time he had heard of Declan.
"He's the head of the Wittelsbach family," Cameron said. "Their marriage was a union of powerhouses. After they got married, they became even more low-key. Now, their son runs the family."
Joseph suddenly felt a sense of powerlessness.
Could Ariana have a significant background?
If Cassie were recognized by the family, wouldn't it be even harder for Joseph to win her back?
Thinking about how he used to mock Cassie for dreaming of climb the ladder by marrying up, he felt utterly embarrassed.
"Dad, do you think David knows Isabella's identity?" Joseph suddenly asked.
"I tested him before. I didn't say much, but he looked very nervous, like I had hit the mark," Cameron said calmly. "David is very strange. Does he really love Cassie that much? Even when you took her away on her wedding day, he accepted her without any reservations."
"Yeah," Joseph agreed. "And Cassie even had children with me. He might have known."
In the past, Joseph had lost a kidney to save Cassie. Later, he used despicable means to threaten her, and she returned to him.
Although Cassie wasn't willing at first, she later stayed with Joseph willingly. Did David not mind at all?
Cassie trusted David because he always seemed good to her, but Joseph didn't believe it.
"Dad, David is terrifying. He might have known all along," Joseph said. "Should I tell Cassie about this?"
Cameron shook his head. "First, I have no proof. Second, why hasn't Ariana come back to find Cassie in over twenty years? Do you think Cassie would believe it?"
Joseph was stunned. Yeah, telling Cassie that Ariana wasn't dead, had become the owner of Emerald Haven Island, the mistress of Neya City, and was now remarried with other children—Cassie would think he was lying.
Cameron tried to comfort him. "No matter what David's true intentions are, he can't stay with Cassie. First, if what I said is true, once he climbs up to the Wittelsbach family, the first person he won't spare when he rises will be you. Second, after he uses Cassie, do you think she'll have a good ending? Think about Mabel."
"I've thought about it long ago." Joseph clenched his fists in frustration. "I will win Cassie back. I just want her to be safe and happy. Dad, I just found out today that Cassie gave me twins."
"Really?" Cameron was stunned, then smiled. "That's great. Bring them to meet me someday."
"Sophia is no problem, but Oliver probably won't recognize me now. But I'll try." Joseph smiled bitterly. "Dad, should you tell Mom about your situation?"
Cameron's face changed slightly. After a long time, he said calmly, "It doesn't matter if you tell her, but there's no need to meet. If it weren't for meeting her back then, your grandmother wouldn't have died so early."
Joseph sighed helplessly.
Cameron instructed, "Keep my situation confidential for now. When you go out, tell everyone we didn't reach an agreement. Secretly, the Garrison Group will fully introduce technology to help the Hernandez family get through the tough times and rise quickly."
"Dad, thank you." Although Joseph was confident he could make a comeback on his own, Cameron's presence would speed up his rise.
When Joseph came out of the presidential suite, his handsome face was cold, making Nathaniel think he hadn't reached an agreement.
Soon, the news that Joseph hadn't reached an agreement with the chairman of the Garrison Group spread throughout Madison.
In the underground parking lot, Felix, who received a call from the waiter, also breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
He thought Joseph had latched onto the Garrison Group. He knew the Garrison Group couldn't possibly be interested in the current Hernandez family.
At the Hernandez Group, Joseph immediately summoned several senior executives for an emergency meeting. When everyone learned that the Hernandez family could introduce advanced technology from the Garrison Group, they were all very excited and happy.
After all, as long as the Hernandez family's product sales were temporarily stabilized, Hernandez Electronics could rise again.
After the meeting, Mabel stayed behind, delighted. "I didn't expect the Garrison Group to agree so quickly. What method did you use to persuade them?"
Joseph's complex gaze fell on her face.
Mabel felt puzzled by his look. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"To see how bad your judgment is." Joseph stood up straight. "The chairman of the Garrison Group is Cameron."
As soon as he said that, he saw Mabel's stunned expression.
"The mysterious person who bought the Hernandez House is also him," Joseph added.
Mabel was incredulous.
