Chapter 1010 Cassie, You Still Care About Me

Laura was stunned, thinking, 'Aren't guys with issues usually low-key? But he seems to want everyone to know it.'

"I have you to prove it," Joseph said softly, staring at Cassie.

Cassie was speechless. She thought, 'Prove what? Prove that hecan still harass me with erectile dysfunction?'

Laura's ears turned red. Joseph's suggestive words made her imagination run wild. "You guys chat. I'll get in the car first."

After a few steps, she called back, "Cassie, hurry up. Don't keep me waiting."

She darted to her car, and Cassie felt deep regret. If she had known he wasn't dead, she wouldn't have come back.

Joseph's gaze softened as he looked at her. "Cassie, I saw your eyes were red. Did you think I was dead and feel sad?"

"Are you delusional? I was almost crying tears of joy." Cassie sneered. "The man who tormented me for years is finally gone. That kind of excitement is beyond your understanding."

"I don't believe you," Joseph said with a slight smile. "Cassie, when you entered the hotel, I was already there. I just didn't come out. But I saw your lost and bewildered look; it didn't seem like you were crying tears of joy."

Cassie was stunned, thinking, 'Joseph was hiding, watching me. He did it on purpose.'

When she thought he was dead, her helpless look was all in his sight. She was furious because of this.

She should treat Joseph with indifference.

"Cassie, you still care about me," Joseph said, stepping closer and holding her hand, his eyes gentle.

This was a public place, and someone could come out at any moment. Cassie quickly shook off his hand.

Joseph's face turned pale, and he gasped. When she shook him off, his entire arm trembled.

Cassie suddenly remembered Marigold mentioning his arm was injured earlier.

She moved her fingers and said coldly, "Joseph, you're going too far. Everyone thought you were dead. The police and medical personnel were out in force, and everyone was panicking, but you were hiding and watching."

Joseph explained softly, "I wasn't watching. From the time you appeared to the time I did, it was less than five minutes. For more than ten minutes after the elevator accident, I was struggling in the elevator shaft, climbing up with Marigold. Look at my hands."

He extended his hands, and Cassie saw that his once beautiful fingertips were now covered in scars and blood.

Her pupils contracted sharply.

Seeing this, Joseph gently lifted his sleeve. "And here, I was hit by an iron chain inside."

She saw that his entire arm was swollen and purple.

She took a light breath.

She had originally thought he was only slightly injured. Although she had never been inside an elevator shaft, just thinking about it made her feel terrified.

It wasn't just about climbing out to be rescued; the things inside could kill him at any moment.

In other words, surviving was already a miracle for him, let alone rescuing someone.

Cassie said, "you had it tough, risking your life to save Marigold. And it made Marigold fall for you even more."

Joseph raised an eyebrow. "Cassie, you're jealous."

"I'm not." Cassie shot back. "Joseph, you keep saying David is scheming, but you're no different. Saving Marigold means the Dixon family will be forever grateful to you. Maybe after marrying Marigold, you can rise again. You're playing a good game."

The light in Joseph's eyes dimmed. He hadn't expected Cassie to see him as so despicable.

A trace of self-mockery appeared in his eyes.

He had destroyed the image she had of him bit by bit.

"Cassie, I didn't," he explained softly. "If I didn't save Marigold, even if I escaped today, Mr. Dixon would have killed me. Even if I wasn't the one who hurt Marigold, if I left her behind and escaped, he wouldn't let me go. He would think, why am I still alive while Marigold is dead? He wouldn't care how difficult it was for me to escape or how much harder it was to save Marigold."

Cassie was suddenly speechless.

Indeed, the higher one stands, the more selfish they become.

In their eyes, only their own family members' lives mattered, while others' lives didn't.

It seemed she had gone too far with her words just now.

"Cassie, I really thought I was going to die today," Joseph said.

He walked closer to her again, his eyes flickering with an emotion that made her heart race. "In the moment the elevator was falling, my mind was full of you. I was unwilling to accept it. I couldn't lose you like this in my lifetime. It was at that moment that I realized you were more important to me than I had imagined. It was you who made me climb out with all my strength. At that time, I didn't rush out. First, I wanted to see who would secretly rejoice at my death; that person might be the culprit. Second, I wanted to see if you would be happy or sad if I died. If you were happy, I would never appear in front of you again. If you were sad, I..."

"Stop talking," Cassie interrupted him emotionally. She didn't want to listen anymore. If he continued, her own heart would be in turmoil.

She didn't understand why she had been so lost and bewildered at that time.

Joseph looked at her flustered expression and smiled. At least in her heart, he was still different from others, not just an insignificant person.

Whether it was hate or love, he was still in her heart.

"Cassie, I came to tell you that for you, I will no longer be self-destructive. I will lead the Hernandez family back to the top, and you, I will take you back from David. I love you. I was terribly wrong before, but I won't be anymore." After Joseph finished speaking, his breathtakingly handsome face retreated step by step into the darkness.

Joseph was clearly seriously injured, but his posture remained tall and proud.

Cassie stared blankly at his back.

His words echoed in her mind.

Cassie pondered, 'Does he want to take me back? This lunatic.'

A sports car pulled up in front of her, and Laura rolled down the window. "What are you thinking about? Aren't you getting in?"
