Chapter 71
"Noah raised an eyebrow and asked curiously, ""You've been living together for so long. Is there really not any affection between you two?""
""Affection?"" Joseph mocked. ""What kind of affection can you have for your cook? I could have tolerated her presence before, but now I won't just let it go like that.""
Noah's eyes wandered, and then he suggested mischievously, ""How about you use some means on her too, then lock her in a room and let her taste your pain?""
Joseph's mouth twitched, and he replied irritably, ""She's been eyeing me even without me using any means. If I were to really do that, she might go crazy, and she might even smash up all the doors in the house.""
Noah shuddered at the scene he imagined.
""Shut up and let me have some peace,"" Joseph interrupted, wanting to focus on getting some quiet.
His throat was dry. ""Please bring me a glass of water.""
At four in the morning, after finishing the IV drip, he gradually cooled down and returned home.
As soon as he entered, he saw Cassie sleeping soundly on the living room sofa.
She had claimed before that she would be afraid of nightmares if she stayed alone in the room, but now she was sleeping peacefully. It was all an act.
He was admitted to the hospital for IV treatment while she was enjoying a comfortable sleep at home!
He couldn't bear it. He angrily picked up a glass of water from the table to splash on her face.
""Wake up!""
Cassie was startled. She sat up and saw Joseph sitting on the other sofa. His voice sounded like a demon descending upon her.
Nervously, she asked, ""When did you come back? How...how are you feeling now?""
""Thanks to you, I spent the whole night getting an IV drip at the hospital.""
Joseph stood up. Just recalling the painful scenes from last night, he felt an immense sense of humiliation.
""Cassie, the biggest regret of my life is marrying you. I shouldn't have saved you when you were locked in the old house.""
Cassie's face turned pale, but she could understand. If she were in his shoes, she would also be angry.
""I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I won't do it again.""
""Again?"" Joseph forcefully held her chin. ""Do you think we have a future? Just looking at you makes me sick. You're a woman who willingly follows others, devoid of any shame, just as dirty as a prostitute!""
His tone was cold. Tears welled up in Cassie's eyes.
She suddenly felt foolish. What had she done?
""Why are you crying? Don't think your tears will soften me!"" Joseph was annoyed by her tears. ""Listen, I don't want to eat anything you cook anymore. Don't appear in front of me, and don't enter my room. You disgust me!""
After saying this, he left the house.
Cassie collapsed on the ground, her heart feeling cold and exhausted.
She felt like Joseph was an impenetrable wall.
She hadn't made the wall budge even a little bit, but instead, he had grown utterly disgusted with her.
So be it. Things that don't belong to her shouldn't be forced.
She dragged herself and the blanket to her bedroom. Her head was spinning, and her whole body felt uncomfortable.
Perhaps it was because of the turmoil of last night, then sleeping on the sofa without covering herself, which led to catching a cold.
She lay in bed to rest and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
She was awakened again by Laura's phone call. ""How did it go? Did you succeed?""
