Chapter 1584 Long-Awaited Intimate Moments
"Alright, stop teasing her," Cassie joked, "Laura was just kidding, she wouldn't really break up with you."
"Yes, that's right," Laura quickly added.
Cassie fell silent. 'Laura is really too soft.'
"Alright, Laura, come sit in the back," Derek beckoned with a doting smile.
"Forget it, I'm too tired to move," Laura said, sinking further into her seat.
Seeing this, Cassie started the car.
With Derek in the back, the conversation between the girlfriends became more restrained.
"By the way, Bernice told me to ask you to have a meal when you are free," Cassie joked. "We all know you probably don't have the mind for it today."
"Yes, I really miss Maeve," Laura couldn't wait to be with Maeve.
"I brought Maeve back to the Presidential Palace," Derek added from the back.
"I wonder if Maeve still remembers me," Laura said, her face full of excitement and anticipation.
Cassie secretly gave Laura a look and then glanced at the back.
Laura was momentarily stunned but quickly realized that her words might have made Derek feel left out.
But with Cassie in the car, she felt awkward discussing certain things that couples usually talked about in private.
"By the way, what did you learn over there?" Cassie changed the subject. "Will you be able to develop a new product this summer?"
"Yes, absolutely. Natalia and I have been working on it privately and we've made significant breakthroughs," Laura replied briskly.
Laura then quickly detailed the new product's benefits.
Forty minutes later, the car pulled into Lakeside Haven, where Derek's house was located. Laura had been here a few times before when she and Derek were secretly dating.
"Aren't we going back to the Presidential Palace?" Laura was surprised.
"Derek asked me to drop you off here. He said his car is here," Cassie said, stopping the car and giving Laura a suggestive look. "My car is not allowed to enter the Presidential Palace anyway, so I'll drop you off here. You two can go back on your own."
"Thanks," Laura replied.
Derek got out and retrieved the luggage from the trunk.
Laura started to feel anxious. To be honest, after saying such suggestive words earlier, she was now nervous about being alone with Derek.
Cassie gave her a knowing smile and whispered, "Derek has been taking care of Maeve after work for the past two months. He also helped you solve a lot of problems. You should really thank him."
"Yes, I know." Laura nodded.
Some things were clear to Laura, which made her feel even more embarrassed.
In fact, although she and Derek hadn't seen each other in the past two months, their relationship had progressed rapidly. They had said many heartfelt things in their Facebook chats that they rarely said in person before.
She didn't mind that state of affairs; after all, they were dating, and this was a normal state of affairs for adult relationships.
But when they reunited in person, the awkwardness immediately set in.
She clearly understood that she and Derek might not be able to go back to the simple state of just kissing.
She didn't mind it, but she felt a bit flustered and at a loss.
After Cassie's sports car left, Derek grabbed her two large suitcases, one in each hand, and looked at Laura with deep, unrestrained eyes.
After two months apart, Laura seemed to have taken good care of herself in Selaestan.
Her already good skin had become even better. She was dressed in a black and white patterned cotton dress with a gray blazer. Her smooth, long hair hung over one shoulder and was tucked behind her ear on the other side. She exuded both a gentle, professional charm and a vibrant allure.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Laura murmured.
Feeling shy under his intense gaze, Laura instinctively reached to brush her hair on the right side, only to realize it had already been tucked back.
Her hand froze for a moment before she put it down.
"You look even more beautiful, and your skin seems to have improved," Derek smiled, his throat moving slightly in the dimly lit parking lot.
"Really? I think so too," Laura said proudly, "My colleagues who went with me also said my skin has improved."
"You must have been drinking milk every day over there," Derek said as he walked to the black Audi and put her luggage in the trunk.
"Yes," Laura said, "The breakfast at the research lab was prepared by professional nutritionists. It was delicious and well-balanced. There was plenty of milk and yogurt every day, and they were really good. Moreover, I mostly stayed in the lab or my apartment and didn't eat any junk food. I think my skin has improved a lot, and I've lost weight. I'm in my best shape now."
Derek nodded, "I heard that in order to ensure their researchers a peak physical and mental performance, many big companies offer the best food and drink for them."
"Yes, when I get back, I need to suggest to my company that the research lab staff's diet should also be well-balanced," Laura nodded.
"Alright, get in the car," Derek said, closing the trunk.
Laura was momentarily stunned. She had thought he would take her upstairs for some alone time, which had made her feel nervous and anxious.
"Don't you want to go back to the Presidential Palace?" Derek raised an eyebrow mischievously. "Or do you want to go upstairs and make love?"
"Stop joking, I want to go see Maeve," Laura said, blushing and glaring at him before getting into the car in embarrassment.
Derek got into the driver's seat unhurriedly. Once inside, he didn't rush to fasten his seatbelt but instead rested his left hand on the steering wheel, looking intently at Laura in the passenger seat.
Laura, having fastened her seatbelt, looked up and met his gaze, feeling nervous. "What's up?"
"Baby, what you said at the airport earlier really hurt me," Derek said with a deep sense of grievance. "You made our relationship sound so casual, as if you didn't care about me at all. Breaking up wouldn't hurt you; it would just be a pity."
Laura was stunned. She hadn't expected that a casual remark would still be bothering him.
But on second thought, if the roles were reversed, she would probably feel uncomfortable too.
