Chapter 1142 How Could Laura Be So Confused?

"Why are you so nervous?" Derek smirked. "You don't have feelings for her. You should be happy a great guy likes her."

Michael stayed quiet for a while before saying, "I'm worried the Jude family will look like a joke. Carl's about to become president. Can you cause less trouble for him?"

"I've always behaved better than you. You can't say that to me," Derek shot back.

Michael snorted. "Grandpa will never agree to you marrying Laura. Carl and Violet won't either. Don't get yourself kicked out of the family."

"You got kicked out and came back. Sometimes we have to fight to know the outcome," Derek said, arms crossed.

"You!" Michael gritted his teeth, realizing how annoying Derek could be.

"Let's head back to the Jude family," Derek said, turning smoothly.

After quickly freshening up, Michael put on Derek's clothes and went back with him.

He was anxious, but once inside, he saw everyone wasn't as hostile and almost teared up.

"Grandpa, I promise I won't mess up again. Do you really agree to let me come back?" he asked.

Eric replied, "I didn't want to, but Laura pleaded with me, so I agreed."

Even though Derek had told him, hearing it from Eric made Michael's heart tremble.

"I'm only doing this for Laura. The Jude family owes her. Take care of yourself. Since you and Megan are over, don't contact her again. If it happens again, no one will plead for you," Eric said, walking away with his cane.

Michael stood there, thinking, 'I'm really back.'

"Alright!" Caroline hugged him.

"Mom," Michael said, feeling a lump in his throat. "I'm sorry for worrying you and Dad."

"Since your grandpa has let it go, let it go," Caroline sighed, a hint of regret in her eyes. "You haven't been back for a while. Go rest in your room."

"Mom, what did Laura say to you?" Michael asked.

Caroline paused. "Last night, Laura came over and asked Eric to let you return. She said you've been apologizing to her and she understands you and the family's intentions, but she doesn't want to be tied to you because of a child. Laura wants a love that's mutual. She asked us to consider her feelings instead of forcing you two together. If we didn't agree, she would leave the family and abort the child."

Michael was stunned. "Wasn't she afraid Grandpa would be angry?"

"Your grandpa was a bit mad at first, but he got it later. He's smart, and so is Laura. She gave you and the family a way out. We were selfish, pushing you to marry her so you could come back. It was partly to match you two and partly because it was embarrassing to take you back after cutting ties. We used Laura and never thought about her feelings." Caroline patted Michael's shoulder. "She's right. You don't need to pursue her anymore. Just treat her like a sister and take care of her."

Michael felt uneasy hearing the last sentence..

Derek chuckled. "Michael, you should be happy now, right?"

Michael was frustrated. "But she has my child."

"Then take good care of that child," Caroline said with a smile. "It's a girl. The Jude family has few girls. Eric was very happy."

Michael blinked, a bit confused. He knew it was a girl.

He thought, 'Great. Girls always resemble their fathers. If my daughter looks like me, she'll be the most beautiful girl in Whisperlyn City.'

"What are you thinking?" Caroline waved her hand in front of him. "You're smiling like an idiot. You must be happy. But remember, you almost forced Laura to abort."

Michael shivered, thinking, 'Yes, my little angel was almost gone.'

"Mom, don't worry. I'll take good care of Laura from now on," he said.

Derek chimed in, "She doesn't need you to take care of her. As her brother, I'll handle that. You focus on the child. Getting too close to her will affect her chances of getting married."

Caroline nodded. "Derek's right."

Michael cursed inwardly, 'Damn it, Derek. I see your game now. How did I not notice how annoying you are before?'

After lunch with the family, Michael went shopping with Caroline. Soon, reporters snapped photos of them chatting and laughing.

Not long after, people who had been avoiding him called, "Michael, long time no see. We miss you. Let's hang out tonight."

Michael hung up immediately.

Those people ignored him when he was down. Now that he was back in the family, they called. Such fair-weather friends weren't worth keeping.

However, Lucas and Joseph messaged in their group chat.

Lucas: [Michael's back in the family. Congrats! Didn't expect you to win over Laura so fast. Am I going to be a groomsman soon?]

Joseph: [No way. Laura isn't that foolish, right?]

Noah: [How could Laura be so foolish? I'll talk to her. No need to marry just for the child.]

Michael gritted his teeth and replied: [I'm not marrying Laura, okay? She pleaded with Eric so I could come back. I don't need to pursue her anymore.]

Noah: [That's great.]

Joseph: [Yeah, it's great. Otherwise, Cassie might get mad about Laura and take it out on me.]
