Chapter 1193 You've Piqued My Interest

In the hospital room.

Bernice finally woke up.

She saw Fiona and Stella. Fiona was busy on the phone, her back to Bernice. "I'm really sorry. Bernice can't return to work until next month due to her injury. If you're in a hurry, you can switch to another artist or wait for her."

"You're awake! You scared me," Stella said, her eyes lighting up.

Fiona turned around, hung up, and sighed, "Your injury really worried me."

"I'm sorry, Fiona," Bernice said weakly. "I can't join 'The Whispering Shadows' crew. I still have two commercials and three events this month."

"The commercial and event organizers called. One is urgent and has to be terminated, with a penalty involved. The other is willing to wait. The real pity is Callie. She was keen on promoting you and just cast you as the lead," Fiona said, rubbing her temples.

Bernice closed her eyes. Missing 'The Whispering Shadows' was a shame, but she didn't regret it. She was in a bad mood yesterday, and when Hunter showed up, she wanted to get rid of him.

"The doctor said your injury isn't too severe. You might join the crew in a month. Callie said they could shoot other scenes first, but you'll have to work overtime to finish your scenes in two months. There will be a lot of wire work," Fiona said.

"I can do it," Bernice nodded.

Fiona frowned, "Even if you join the crew, your wound won't be fully healed. The wire work could make it worse."

"It's okay," Bernice said. "Callie is willing to wait for me, which is an honor. If I can't endure this pain, how can I meet her expectations?"

Fiona sighed, looking thoughtful. "By the way, Bernice, what's going on with you and Mr. Nelson? Why was he outside just now? I heard he brought you here."

"I don't know why he came to my place," Bernice frowned, sarcastic. "But men, they're just driven by lust."

Stella was shocked, "Oh my, no wonder Mr. Nelson came to the set yesterday and went to your dressing room. I thought he was there to see Sarah, but I didn't expect this."

"Watch your words," Fiona glared at Stella, troubled. Bernice was her top artist, and she wanted her to make good money, not get involved in these matters. Lucas was not someone to mess with.

"Honestly, if Mr. Nelson wasn't getting married and didn't have a girlfriend, Sarah, I'd be happy if he pursued you. He's powerful and could elevate your career. But everyone knows he's marrying Sarah. Getting involved would be a mess, and your reputation would take a hit," Fiona said. "I've dealt with Sarah a few times. Even though I'm the top agent in the company and Mr. Jenkins respects me, Sarah, being Mr. Nelson's girlfriend, never takes me seriously. She's petty and would go all out to bring you down if she found out."

"I know, that's why I've always rejected him," Bernice frowned. "Guys like him just want to play around."

"Good that you get it. I hope Mr. Nelson backs off," Fiona warned. "Remember Gary?"

Bernice fell silent at the mention of Gary. She didn't remember much about him, just that the old Bernice had committed suicide because of him. She thought he was just a jerk.

"Get some rest. Let Stella take care of you. I have to handle some things. There are a bunch of reporters outside," Fiona said. "By the way, what should we do about Hunter?"

"What's the media saying?" Bernice asked.

"Luckily, the company looked into Hunter's family and got people to vouch for you. The public is sympathetic to you now," Fiona replied.

Bernice thought for a moment. "Expose Hunter's home address and his son's company address. Hire a lawyer to get back the money I gave him and sue him. He hurt me; he should go to jail."

Fiona looked surprised.

"What?" Bernice asked.

"Nothing," Fiona said, a bit complicated. "You've changed a lot. You used to be soft-hearted and weak."

"I won't be like that anymore," Bernice said. "People who are bad to me don't deserve anything from me."

"Alright." Fiona left.

Stella fed her some porridge.

Not long after, the door opened again. This time, Lucas walked in.

He was wearing a white coat and glasses. He was slightly nearsighted and usually wore glasses while working, but it didn't affect his handsome appearance. In fact, it made him look more elegant and refined.

Stella had heard people say Lucas looked best in a white coat. Seeing him in person, she was stunned.

Bernice coughed, snapping Stella out of it.

"You go out first," Lucas said to Stella.

Stella looked troubled. "Mr. Nelson, Bernice's injury hasn't healed yet."

Lucas interrupted, "I'm her attending physician. I treated her injury."

Stella had to leave.

Bernice, looking pale and tired, gazed at Lucas. "Thank you."

"Is just thanking me enough?" Lucas sat by the bed, his lips slightly curved. "Bernice, I'm a law-abiding person, but for you, I made a false statement for the first time. I even brought you to the hospital."

Bernice stayed silent.

"Bernice, I've seen many cunning and despicable women, but I've never seen someone like you so ruthless to yourself." Lucas adjusted his glasses. "You've piqued my interest."
