Chapter 1121 He Was Just a Joke

Megan's face went pale, and she started trembling.

Nathan didn't let up. "You're a homewrecker. After Joseph and Cassie had a fight, you hurt yourself on purpose and asked me to tell Joseph you wanted to live in the seaside villa. You just wanted to move into the house where Cassie and Joseph once lived to show off and hurt Cassie. Even back then, when Cassie was pregnant with fraternal twins, you told me that once Joseph handed the fraternal twins over to you, you would give them a good talking-to."

Everyone in the courtroom was stunned.

"Wasn't she supposed to be the innocent victim, betrayed by Joseph who married Cassie and then sweet-talked her back?"

"She's the real homewrecker."

"Megan's so scheming. I almost fell for it."

"She's not just scheming; she's evil. She wouldn't even spare newborn babies."

"Exactly, kids are the purest angels."

"If you ask me, Joseph's a fool. He was the richest man in Madison and got played by her."

"If Joseph were a good guy, he wouldn't have been deceived by Megan. He deserves it."

"The real victims are Cassie and the twins."

Michael, sitting in the audience, heard everything clearly. His face turned even paler, like he was about to faint. He thought Megan was just vain, but she was way more malicious and scheming than he imagined.

The worst part for Michael was Megan planning to harm Sophia and Oliver.

He thought, 'Is this true? How terrifying must Megan be to do such a thing?'

He used to see Megan as pure and beautiful.

Now he realized that image was a lie.

His crush from his youth was based on a fake image.

He felt like a joke.

In the courtroom, Joseph was furious, veins bulging. Some of the things Nathan mentioned happened before he was hypnotized.

His memories were distorted. Megan always got hurt on purpose, and Seaside Haven was once his and Cassie's home.

No wonder Cassie hated him so much.

He had foolishly given their home to Megan.

Thinking about all the years he and Megan lived in Seaside Haven, he wanted to slap himself. Everything he did hurt Cassie.

"You bitch," Joseph's eyes turned red as he shouted.

"It's not like that," Megan cried out, breaking down. "I didn't do it. Nathan, why are you framing me? Are you afraid of Lucas? Have you forgotten who harmed you?"

"It was all you," Nathan snapped. "As my sister, why didn't you stop me when I had bad ideas? You always backed me up in hurting people around Cassie. If you hadn't cozied up to Joseph, I wouldn't have been so arrogant. You made me who I am today."

"Everything is your own doing. Haven't I done enough for you over the years?"

"So now you're tired of me, and you had someone kidnap me, trying to kill me secretly, right? If I die, I'll take you with me."

"You're crazy. When did I kidnap you? Stop talking nonsense."

Nathan and Megan started arguing in the courtroom.

"Be quiet," Cherie banged the gavel, clearly angry. "If you keep arguing, you'll be detained."

Megan cried to Cherie, "I'm being framed."

Nathan said, "I'm telling the truth."

Cherie's temples throbbed, and she banged the gavel again. "Shut up."

She glared at Megan. Mark quickly pulled Megan back, telling her to stop talking. Cherie was truly angry.

The courtroom finally quieted down.

Cherie said, "Defendant, you may speak."

Megan quickly stood up, choking back tears. "I don't know why Nathan would help Joseph, but what I said before is true. When I was eighteen, Joseph confessed to me and asked me to date him. I loved him, did what he liked, and even became a psychologist to cure his illness. Everything I did was for him. I can't accept that after giving him my youth for over a decade, I'm being framed as a ruthless woman. I really can't accept it."

By the end, she was crying uncontrollably.

The entire courtroom echoed with her cries, and everyone listened quietly, their expressions varied.

Laura, sitting in the back, muttered, "She's quite the drama queen."

Bernice squinted. "My acting skills aren't as good as hers."

Cassie sighed. "I almost barfed because of her."

"Are you pregnant, too?" Laura asked excitedly. "No, Joseph can't get you pregnant, right?"

"I mean, I'm so disgusted by her that I want to barf," Cassie said, exasperated.

Laura laughed awkwardly. "Do you think the judge will be swayed by Megan's performance?"

"If it were a male judge, maybe. But a female judge, not necessarily," Cassie smiled.

Bernice glanced at her and added, "Men often soften at women's tears, but female judges, being women themselves, won't. They might even instinctively dislike women who use tears to gain sympathy. Look at the audience; most of the men are soft-hearted towards Megan, while the women are all disdainful."

Laura looked around. "I see you two are quite in sync."

"It's not about being in sync; it's just normal judgment," Cassie smiled.

"Exactly," Bernice nodded.

Laura said, "Enough, don't make it seem like I can't make normal judgments."

"You said I was pregnant. Do you think you can make normal judgments?" Cassie retorted.

Laura fell silent.
