Chapter 907 I Was Only Seeking Revenge

Cassie looked at Joseph's cautious demeanor with indifference. It was inexplicably laughable. Her lips curled into a merciless sneer.

"I would never come to see you." Cassie forcefully withdrew her hand. "We have no ties anymore."

As she turned to leave, Joseph quickly blocked her path. Even in his illness, his tone remained as oppressive as ever. "I never broke up with you, Cassie. You are still my girlfriend."

"Mr. Hernandez, how forgetful are you? Let me remind you, just before yesterday's court session, you were intimately holding Megan's arm." Cassie was truly astounded by his shamelessness. "Anyone with a shred of decency wouldn't dare say such things."

"Just consider... that I have no decency left," he then said.

Joseph, bitter and unwilling to let go, knew he had made too many mistakes. Perhaps, as Nathaniel had said, he shouldn't disturb her anymore. But from last night until now, he had been madly thinking about her.

He had once heard that when a person was ill, they were most likely to think of the one they love. Unfortunately, he realized it too late.

"Cassie, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. That day, I went to save Megan because I saw Spencer tearing her clothes on the spot," Joseph explained.

"Don't tell me how angry you were for Megan. It disgusts me," Cassie interrupted him sharply. "Joseph, you actually guessed right before. I agreed to date you to get back to you. I wanted Megan to feel what it's like to have the person she loves taken away."

"What did you say?" Joseph was stunned, feeling as if his heart had been punched hard. "That's impossible."

"It's true," Cassie sneered. "Who gave you such confidence? Think about what you did to me. Should I list them one by one? First of all, you cheated on me with Megan, but because you were afraid the public would scold her, you used my father's illness to force me to issue a statement saying we had divorced long ago, and then I was cyberbullied by netizens.

The second thing is that Nathan assaulted Laura, but you insisted on saving Nathan. That was like stabbing me in the chest. And what did Nathan do after he got out? He slandered Laura in front of the media.

The third thing is that you locked me up like a dog and planned to have Megan take care of the child I gave birth to.

The fourth thing, you pushed me, causing me to miscarry.

The fifth thing, Megan said I had depression, and you had the doctors locked me up, giving me injections and medication every day. How many times do I have to say it? I wasn't sick. I wasn't ill at that time.

The sixth thing is that after I faked my death, you gave Megan the only company my mother left me to manage. You have many companies, but you just had to take the Peace Group. You should have given her something else."

Cassie grew more furious and agitated as she spoke, her beautiful eyes blazing with hatred.

Joseph was completely stunned. So, Cassie had never stopped hating him.

Were Cassie's previous smiles, her care, and her tender affection all fake?

The pain was so intense he could hardly breathe. Perhaps. it was because he had just undergone surgery, but he looked pale and frail as if he might faint at any moment.

Cassie, as if she hadn't noticed, continued her mocking accusations, "And that's just the past. Since I came back, the first thing you did was pressure the company's shareholders and partners against me because of a few words from Megan. If I weren't smart, the Peace Group would have been forced into bankruptcy by you long ago.

The second thing is that Megan drugged you, and you came to me to vent your anger. Afterward, you even warned me to take birth control pills to avoid having your child.

The third thing, you forced me to divorce. It would have been one thing if you wanted to marry Megan, but why did you have Athena strip me of my clothes? Yes, you avenged me, but do you understand the pain and humiliation of being pinned to the floor and having your clothes torn off piece by piece? You trampled my dignity into the ground.

The fourth thing, let's not even mention Spencer. When Megan was kidnapped, you left me alone on the mountain in the middle of the night. I begged you not to go, but you left so heartlessly. Spencer is my family, but how did you treat him? You took his severed finger to please Megan. Joseph, don't you think you're terrifying?"

Terrifying? Him, terrifying?

Joseph's hands trembled. If Cassie hadn't listed every one of his wrongdoings, he would have almost forgotten the many cruel things he had done to her. He wasn't inherently a cruel person, but when it came to Cassie, he could easily turn into a monster.

"Cassie, I'm sorry. I swear I'll never do it again..." Joseph stated.

"Don't swear anymore. When you were with me before, you made such sweet promises, but how long did that last?" Cassie looked at him with disgust. "Joseph, you made me realize that your words can never be trusted because no one knows when you'll turn against them."

"I won't turn against you, I promise." Joseph, at a loss, grabbed her sleeve. "Didn't you say you wanted to get back at me and Megan? Didn't you say you wanted to take me away and make Megan suffer? I'm giving you that chance."

Even if it meant being tormented by Cassie in the future, he couldn't bear to be apart from her. At this moment, Joseph, like a helpless child, just wanted Cassie to give him one more chance.

"Thank you, but I don't want that chance anymore," Cassie answered.

She looked at the desperate Joseph. If it had been before, she would have felt triumphant. She thought, 'Joseph, you once belittled me so much, never imagining you'd be this scared and pitiful one day.'

But she had to admit that she had also been hurt in the process of making Joseph fall in love with her again.

"Why? Don't you want to get back at me anymore?" he then asked.

Joseph found it laughable that he, once so high and mighty, had fallen to this point. But what scared him more was that if she no longer wanted revenge, it meant there would be no more connection between them.

Cassie lowered her long lashes. "Joseph, I'm human too. During our interactions, I found out you hadn't been with Megan for years, and when you carried me up the mountain, I moved. But Spencer's situation gave me a harsh wake-up call. Sacrificing my body to make you fall in love with me and then torment you—how foolish was that? Was I really getting back at you, or was I just making it happier for you?"

"No, you did get back at me. Like now, my heart hurts," Joseph said, looking at her in pain. "Stay with me, and you can torment me as much as you want, as long as you're happy."

"No." Cassie shook her head. "When I begged you at Dragon, and you said you'd lock me up, and then when I saw Spencer's severed finger, I stopped loving you. I'll continue to get back at Megan, but not because of you—it's for Nina. As for our past love and hatred, let's leave it at that. I don't want to use my feelings as a weapon for revenge anymore."
