Chapter 224

"Eight-thirty.

In the conference room, the directors wore uniformly grim and outraged expressions. Merely mentioning Cassie seemed to incite sheer hostility in everyone.

""This is all Carter Harrison's doing—if he hadn't introduced Cassie, Peace Group wouldn't have offended the Hernandez family.""

""Has she lost her mind? How dare she strike Richard! The Hernandez family towers above us; we can't afford to antagonize them.""

""I heard the last person who crossed Richard, a tycoon from Lorenzo City, was reduced to ruins overnight.""

""Indeed, Richard is a formidable man.""

""...""

Listening to the heated discussions, Robert sighed heavily, ""I blame myself. I shouldn't have allowed Olivia to invite Richard over yesterday, but I heard he was coming to scout the area, and I hoped Peace Group could form an alliance with the Hernandez family.""

""Absolutely, if we could secure a partnership with the Hernandez family, Peace Group would ride the wave of their success.""

""We made a mistake; Robert should have been chairman.""

""I regret voting for Cassie.""

Edward spoke resignedly, ""Folks, the situation has escalated to this point. For the future of Peace Group, we have no other choice but to remove her from the chairmanship. Now, the only one who might help us weather this storm is Robert, since his daughter has quite a rapport with Richard.""

Robert responded humbly, waving his hand, ""I'm not certain if I can rectify this, but Mr. Hernandez seems quite fond of Olivia. He's been taking her everywhere recently. Olivia, what are your thoughts?""
Despite the pain in her side from where Richard had kicked her the day before, Olivia managed to force a sweet smile. ""Mr. Hernandez really likes me,"" she said, her voice laced with pride. ""He shared a lot of details about the project with me.""

The room erupted with joy, and Edward declared, ""That settles it then; Robert is our new board member!""

""Did I consent to that?""

Cassie burst through the door, her piercing blue eyes scanning the board members—her relatives, her elders—all integral to the Peace Group. ""Last night, I punched Richard. But did any of you even bother to ask me why?""

A stunned silence filled the room.

Cassie's anger boiled over. ""Richard locked me in the bathroom last night, almost violated me, all while Olivia stood guard outside for him. I, as the Chairwoman of Peace Group, was almost humiliated in a scheme orchestrated by both. Why? Because Richard's ego is too inflated; he doesn't respect any of us. His disrespect isn't just towards me; it's towards the entire Peace Group.""

""This Richard has crossed the line,"" a board member murmured, shaking his head.

""Olivia actually did that? That's horrifying.""

""I did not!"" Olivia stood up defensively. ""You were the one trying to seduce Mr. Hernandez. Why would he force himself on you when he could have any woman he desires?""

Robert, frustrated, retorted, ""The press captured you last night, clinging to Mr. Hernandez's arm right at the hotel's front door. And for the record, he himself stated you tried to tear off his clothes.""

""That's disgraceful.""

""We can't have a director like her in Peace Group; it's humiliating.""

The room's gaze turned scornful towards Cassie.

Edward frowned. ""Enough. The mess you've created is too vast. We want to preserve Peace Group. You have to take responsibility for your actions. Frankly, you're unfit to remain with the company.""

A mocking smile played on Cassie's lips, her eyes cold and defiant. ""What's this? You want to expel me from the board?""

Robert's response came with a frosty smile. ""It has come to that. Gather your belongings and leave.""

Cassie's gaze dropped; the chill in her heart towards the company grew colder.

Suddenly, an employee rushed in, panting. ""We've got trouble—Richard's here, downstairs, demanding to see Cassie.""
