Chapter 923 Cassie, Do You Feel Sorry for Me?
Cassie looked stunned. She hadn't expected the high and mighty Joseph to propose such a form of compensation. In Joseph's mind, Spencer was just a bodyguard, and using his finger to make amends was something he would never have done before.
When Joseph saw her silence, his alluring and dark eyes flashed with resolve. "As long as you can forgive me, I'm willing to give my finger to Spencer. You can even have Spencer come and cut it off himself."
He extended his finger, his eyes burning as he looked at her. It was just a finger, after all. Without it, he could still hold her and kiss her. The pain of losing a finger was nothing compared to the deep agony of her loathing and avoiding him.
Cassie glanced at his finger. She had always known his fingers were long and clean; she had never seen any man's fingers as beautiful as his.
"No need," she turned her face away and said flatly. "Cutting off your finger won't help. It can't be attached to Spencer's hand."
Joseph smiled, and his eyes seemed to gleam with joy. "Cassie, do you feel sorry for me? You can't bear to see me cut off my finger."
"You're overthinking it," Cassie immediately denied. "I don't want to forgive you, nor do I want to reconcile with you. Joseph, don't you get it? Being with you is too exhausting. I've never had a single day of peace. Besides, you can even hurt your child. I could never reconcile with a man like you."
She stood up after speaking. Joseph's handsome face turned pale, and he instinctively grabbed Cassie's arm. "Where are you going?"
"Obviously, you don't want to leave so I will leave," Cassie said calmly.
Joseph's throat moved painfully. He held Cassie's hand a bit tighter, staring at her for a full half-second. A deep and unfathomable darkness replaced the guilt in his eyes. "Cassie, don't you understand? In this lifetime, since you've entangled with me, don't think you can leave."
"Joseph, you're dreaming." Cassie looked up, her beautiful eyes filled with anger.
Joseph, however, laughed. Whether she hated him or was angry, as long as he could see her face from now on, he was satisfied. As for everything else, it didn't matter. In the days to come, Joseph was confident he would eventually be able to get her to forgive him.
But at this moment, if Joseph had let go, they would have no more ties.
"Cassie, you shouldn't have come back to seek revenge." Joseph stared at her. "If I had married Megan, you would have had nothing to do with it. But you made me fall deeply in love with you. Tell me, would I let go of the woman I deeply love?"
"What kind of threat are you planning again?" Cassie mocked. "But sorry, my dad is fine now, and the Chapman family has nothing to do with me. You wouldn't want to go after the Peace Group, would you? Go ahead. I have plenty of money. Giving up the Peace Group is fine; money is just an external thing."
Joseph was momentarily speechless. Indeed, Cassie had nothing left to be threatened with. He couldn't do anything to her now. "Cassie, don't push me. In this lifetime, you can only be mine."
After a moment, Joseph stared at her and left those decisive words before leaving.
Cassie's good mood for the entire day was ruined. Knowing Joseph's character, she was sure he wouldn't give up easily. She just didn't know what he was planning this time.
At five in the afternoon, David drove to pick up Cassie.
After Cassie got in the car, a hint of worry flashed in her eyes. "David, you should not come to see me so frequently. Joseph came to the company today. I'm afraid if he finds out about our relationship, he'll threaten me by going after you again, just like before."
"He always resorts to such despicable tactics," David said with an angry sneer.
"Yes." Cassie sighed softly. "But his power is even greater than before. Direct confrontation won't work."
David looked at her deeply. He wanted to comfort her and tell her that the Hernandez family would soon fall, but unfortunately, she didn't understand that yet. "Cassie, how about... we get a marriage certificate? Once we have it, our relationship will be legitimate, and Joseph won't be able to do anything."
"A marriage certificate?" Cassie was completely stunned. She had just agreed to his proposal, and now they were talking about getting a marriage certificate so soon. Her mind was momentarily confused.
"Yes, is it too soon? Did I scare you?" David said apologetically. "Cassie, I have no other choice. I don't want to lose you again like before. Don't worry, we'll register the marriage and hold the wedding at the same time. To avoid drawing too much attention, we'll have the wedding in Madison. I don't want it to be like with Joseph, where we get the marriage certificate but don't have a proper wedding."
"Thank you." Cassie felt completely relieved after hearing David's words, and any lingering unease was dispelled.
At this point, there seemed to be no reason to hesitate. Besides, David had waited for her for so long; she shouldn't make him wait any longer.
"Alright, I agree." After a moment, she nodded softly.
"Great, I'll have people start preparing in Madison right away. Although the wedding won't be very large to avoid too much attention, I'll make sure it's beautiful. Both our parents will attend. Oh, and let's have Sophia and Oliver be our flower children, okay?" David said happily.
"Okay." Cassie hesitated and nodded. "But what if your parents find out I have two children."
"They already know, but there's nothing they can do. I told them that I wouldn't marry anyone but you, and if not you, I'd rather stay single for life. They had no choice." David glanced at her belly and said, "Besides, you had fraternal twins at the same time. Who knows, maybe next time it'll be two more babies, and the house will be lively."
Cassie's face turned red with embarrassment. "Don't say that. You're making me feel pressured."
"I'm just joking. As long as they're your children, I'll love them," David joked.
David leaned over and gently kissed her forehead. Cassie closed her eyes, feeling a sense of resignation. She thought it was fine. Soon, she would be getting married again. This time, she wanted to be with David forever.
At five and a half o'clock in the evening, the Jude family and the Miller family were dining together at a restaurant. Eric personally attended, sitting next to James, and his wife, Julia, and Aaron were also present, but the main character, Michael, was notably absent.
Luke looked displeased. Although the Jude family was much more powerful and wealthy than the Miller family, Michael's absence at this point was highly disrespectful to his daughter.
"Eric, I think we should call this off since Michael hasn't shown up," Luke advised.
"Maybe he's stuck in traffic." Eric signaled to Julia.
Julia immediately took her phone and went outside to make a call. "You have ten minutes. If you don't show up, don't bother coming at all."
"Julia, don't be so harsh. I'm stuck in traffic!" Michael's fiery voice came through.
