Chapter 1763 She Is Free

"Did you sleep with someone else?"

Lucas's eyes narrowed in anger, glaring at Bernice as if she were the dirtiest thing he'd ever seen. His grip on her tightened.

Bernice felt like her jaw was about to break, and tears streamed down her face from the pain.

Her tears mixed with her makeup, which only made him more disgusted.

Lucas shoved her away, grabbed a tissue, and wiped his hand furiously. Then he tossed the tissue at her with a sneer. "Bernice, you're filthy."

"What else was I supposed to do?" Bernice gave a bitter smile. "You wouldn't help me, so I had to fend for myself, Mr. Nelson. Didn't you force me to sleep with you before? You enjoyed it so much, and you didn't even pay, so you think I'm cheap. Even when you treated other women badly, you at least gave them what they deserved."

Honestly, if she didn't want to cut ties with Lucas right now, she would've said a lot more hurtful things.

But cutting ties with Lucas now wasn't a smart move.

"Now that the contract is terminated, you've grown bolder." Lucas's lips curled into a cold smile. "But I have to admit, you are quite cheap in my eyes."

"So, I can find someone who doesn't think I'm cheap. You're not the only man in the world."

Bernice's words completely enraged Lucas.

He glared at her fiercely. "Bernice, do you not care about the lives of those subordinates?"

Bernice took a deep breath and suddenly choked up. "Mr. Nelson, don't push me too far."

Lucas let out a cold laugh, showing no signs of being moved.

Bernice blinked, taking several deep breaths to hold back her tears. "Mr. Nelson, you know how many heinous things Megan has done. During that trial, all her crimes were exposed. Before I had my subordinates kidnap her, I never thought Megan would face justice. I thought that day would never come, so to avenge Esmeralda and Nina, I kidnapped Megan."

"You may not feel any guilt towards me, but what about Nina and the Zenith family? If you hadn't insisted that Nina was the culprit, she wouldn't have been sent to prison by your lawyer. Now she's dead, not even a trace of her remains."

"Those subordinates were avenging Nina and the Zenith family, and you're using them to threaten me. Don't you think you're inhumane?"

Bernice looked at Lucas with wide eyes, filled with confusion and sorrow.

Lucas's face had long turned grim.

Ever since he met Megan and learned many truths, Nina had become a knot in his heart.

He used to think Nina's affection for him in their youth was all part of her scheming.

Now he realized he had misunderstood Nina all along.

In the dead of night, Nina's death felt like a needle, piercing deeper and deeper.

Lucas lit a cigarette and suddenly laughed. "You already said I'm cold-hearted, so do you think I would feel guilty?"

"If it weren't for you helping Megan, would the Zenith family members have died?" Bernice said hoarsely. "I didn't know many things before, but later Cassie told me everything."

Lucas walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, finished his cigarette with his back to her, and then said, "Go back to the company, and I'll free those subordinates. You won't have to sleep with me anymore."

After all, he was already tired of her.

Especially knowing she had slept with another man, Lucas felt deeply disgusted by her.

If it were any other woman who betrayed him, he would have killed her. But since she had avenged Nina, he decided to let it slide.

"Don't try to negotiate with me anymore. This is my final offer," Lucas said coldly.

"Going back to the company isn't out of the question, but I won't sign the old contract. I'll take 60% of the share, and you get 40%. Plus, I want to set up my own studio, find my own team, and choose my own projects and endorsements. I'm done being the company's puppet," Bernice said, looking him straight in the eye.

"You still dare to negotiate with me?" Lucas's impatience was clear. "Letting you go is already my biggest concession."

"In the end, your leverage over me is just those subordinates."

Bernice gritted her teeth. "If I don't care about their lives, I've already sacrificed enough for them. They work for me, and I pay them. It's a mutual need. I can't sacrifice my whole life for them. To be honest, many companies have approached me since I left Dreamscape Entertainment Group. Even Stellar Entertainment Group offered me a contract with an 80% share."

Lucas looked at her deeply.

Bernice bit her lip and met his gaze.

Lucas narrowed his eyes. At this moment, he wasn't sure if he could control Bernice anymore.

After all, human nature was susceptible to temptation.

Bernice said softly, "If I can save them, I'll be happy. But if I can't, I can't keep wasting time with you. To be honest, going back to Dreamscape Entertainment Group doesn't benefit me. You want to support Sarah, and the best resources will go to her. If I don't regain some freedom, the company will eventually take advantage of me. If things remain the same, I'd rather sign with Stellar Entertainment Group. After all, Dreamscape Entertainment Group's reputation isn't great right now."

"Fine."

Lucas stared at her for a few seconds, weighed his options, and then nodded. "I agree to your terms. Go back to the company this afternoon to sign the new contract."

After speaking, he turned and walked out. At the door, he turned back. "By the way, take all your stuff from my place. If you don't come to get them, I'll throw them out."

"I want them. They're all brand names. How could you throw them away?"

Bernice immediately blurted out, pretending to be very materialistic.

Lucas gave her a mocking and disdainful look, then left without looking back.

After leaving the club, Bernice felt a weight lifted off her shoulders.

A contract didn't mean much. Even if she had to pay a penalty later, it didn't matter. The important thing was that she was no longer threatened by Lucas. She was free.

Once her subordinates left Madison, she wouldn't have to deal with Lucas anymore.

Thinking of this, Bernice let out a cold laugh and drove to Lucas's place.

She didn't expect that just as she reached the door and was about to enter the password, Lucas came out of the elevator behind her.

She frowned inwardly. If she had known he was coming back, she would have waited a few days to get her things.

"I thought you'd delay a few days. Didn't expect you to be so eager," Lucas mocked as he walked up to her. "Move aside. I've changed the password."

"You even changed the password. Looks like Mr. Nelson planned to kick me out long ago," Bernice retorted sarcastically.

"You're indeed a boring woman," Lucas glanced at her coldly. "I used to find you interesting, but now I think you're just so-so."
