Chapter 1004 Helped Joseph

Laura shot her a knowing look. "You feel sorry for him, don't you?"

"Don't be ridiculous." Cassie rolled her eyes. "I'm just too kind-hearted to watch the strong bully the weak."

"But I'm not. I still remember how Joseph let Nathan hurt me," Laura said pointedly.

Cassie fell silent.

"Forget it. I'm just messing with you." Laura suddenly laughed. "I hate seeing the strong bully the weak too."

Cassie was speechless, thinking, 'Laura's teasing me.'

"You wait here," Laura said, brushing her hair back as she walked over, just in time to see Joseph grabbing Kenneth's wrist.

"It hurts!" Kenneth bent over, screaming. "Help. Joseph's bullying me."

"You're a man, and all you do is scream for help? If I were you, I'd be too embarrassed to even say it." Joseph tightened his grip, his cold and fierce aura making everyone around him uneasy. Even though he was at the bottom of the social ladder at this banquet, his angry eyes still instilled fear.

Seeing the crowd stop pushing Joseph, Felix scolded, "Joseph, let go of Mr. Harrison immediately. I've never seen someone so arrogant while bullying others."

Felix paused as he saw James from the Jude family approaching. "James, you're just in time. Joseph was harassing Savannah from the March family. When we confronted him, he even hit Mr. Harrison."

"James, please save me. My hand's about to break," Kenneth cried out, looking pained.

"Mr. Jude, you should kick Joseph out. He's too arrogant."

"Yeah, he pushed me too."

"I almost got knocked over by him."

A large group of people angrily pointed at Joseph, as if he had committed a crime.

Some uninformed guests began to whisper among themselves.

"Isn't that Joseph? Why did the Jude family invite him?"

"I heard the Jude family used to be close with the Hernandez family."

"But now, the Hernandez family has no place at such events. If I were him, I'd be too ashamed to come."

"I heard he's trying to find a rich girl to marry. He tried to harass Savannah and got rejected in public."

"Yeah, given the Hernandez family's situation, finding a wealthy woman is more reliable. But I didn't expect Joseph to stoop so low."

Most of the banquet hall gathered around to watch the commotion.

Joseph's handsome face gradually turned icy. He had seen too many people kick him when he was down, but the attitude of these aristocrats was unbelievable.

The truth didn't matter to them; what mattered was seeing Joseph humiliated and kicked out of the banquet.

"James, I didn't do it," Joseph said in a calm, hoarse voice.

James looked at his elegant and noble face. He didn't believe Joseph would do such a thing, but with so many guests accusing him, he couldn't publicly defend him. "Joseph, maybe you should leave for now," he said.

"James." Laura appeared, taking James's arm and smiling sweetly. "If we just let him go like this, Joseph will feel wronged. After all, tonight's banquet is for me. To be fair, let's check the surveillance footage. That way, the truth will be clear."

Everyone's expressions shifted at Laura's words.

Joseph looked at Laura, surprised. He thought she disliked him.

"Ms. Miller, what do you mean? Don't you believe me?" Savannah asked, her voice pitiful.

"Yeah, he started it. My hand still hurts," Kenneth chimed in.

"When did I say I didn't believe you?" Laura pouted, feigning grievance. "It's just that Joseph feels wronged. I don't want to give him a chance to argue. You all don't mind, but if this gets out, people will say I'm abusing my power."

James's face darkened. "That's right. The Jude family has always been fair. Besides, today is Laura's big day, and we don't want her to get a bad reputation."

Savannah quickly said, "Ms. Miller, you misunderstood me. This matter is very clear. Everyone here is a witness. You can ask anyone, and they'll tell you I'm not lying. There's no need to check the surveillance."

"Yeah, Joseph spilled wine on Ms. March," someone echoed.

Laura looked puzzled. "Checking the surveillance isn't difficult. It only takes two minutes. With evidence, Joseph won't be able to argue. Making him apologize to Ms. March and kicking him out would be too lenient."

"I agree to check the surveillance," Joseph said with a smirk.

Savannah was flustered. She quickly glanced at Marcus, who smiled at James and said, "Forget it. They're just young people causing a scene. It's giving me a headache. Mr. Jude, let's go have a drink."

Joseph sneered. "Now that we're checking the surveillance, none of you have anything to say? Weren't you all scolding me just now?"

Savannah's face turned red. "Joseph, I just didn't want to make things difficult for Ms. Miller and was giving the Jude family face. I'm warning you, stay away from me next time. If you harass me again, I will kick your ass."

She quickly left, knowing that if they checked the surveillance, everyone would see she had falsely accused Joseph. She hadn't expected Laura to step in and help him. Her hasty exit made everyone notice something was off.

No one said anything, though many felt awkward. They had all wanted to see Joseph humiliated.

The rich young men who had been pushing Joseph quickly found excuses to leave, and soon only James and Laura were left.

"James, Ms. Miller, thank you," Joseph said, feeling a bit speechless. He hadn't expected Laura to come to his rescue.

"It's not me," Laura blurted out, then quickly shut her mouth. She glared at Joseph. "I just don't like people causing trouble at my banquet."

She turned and left.

Joseph glanced in the direction she went, where Cassie was standing.

His eyes softened slightly.

James sighed. "You should go back early. Those people just want to mess with you. Maybe I shouldn't have invited you tonight."

"Even if you hadn't invited me, I would have come uninvited. I wanted to come," Joseph said, his gaze fixed on Cassie.

James looked over and instantly understood.
