Chapter 1302 "Sophia and Oliver's dad is you."
Cassie shot back, "Joseph doesn't see himself as a toddler anymore. I told him he's actually older than me. I got him a few professors, and he's picking things up fast. He should be caught up in about a month."
"But so what? He doesn't remember any of the feelings you two had," Laura reminded her. "How many times have you tried to make someone who forgot you fall for you again?"
Cassie felt a pang of sadness.
'Yeah, how many times has it been?' she wondered.
Ever since she met Joseph in Silverwood, she had been doing everything she could to get his attention.
Even when she came back from Austin, she used all sorts of tricks to pull him away from Megan.
Sure, she succeeded every time, but was she tired? She was exhausted.
A pure, mutual love always seemed so far away from her.
"I don't know either," Cassie said blankly. "Last time, he had memory confusion. This time, it's like he's a baby with a blank slate of emotions. It's actually easy to make him fall for me, but life is so long. I can't help but wonder, will there be a next time? Can I always be so proactive and strong? How many more times can I endure? I'm just an ordinary woman."
Laura sighed, "Cassie, I usually don't say anything about your feelings, but seeing you like this breaks my heart. I really think Joseph doesn't know how to protect himself. If he wants to talk to you about feelings this time, don't agree so easily."
Laura added, "He's forgotten everything. Honestly, if the person I liked forgot me again and again, even if it was because of someone else's schemes, I'd want to kill him. If he has a wife and kids, isn't it his responsibility to protect himself?"
"You're right," Cassie smiled. "I'll wait for a while. Once I get my stuff done, I want to take some time for myself. Love can be sweet sometimes, but it can also be painful, especially when you're the only one who remembers."
"Will Joseph remember the past? Will Lucas find a way?" Laura asked.
"I don't know either," Cassie replied.
In the study.
Joseph was seriously studying the info about the Hernandez Group on his laptop.
He wanted to quickly grasp all the info about the Hernandez Group so he could take over and lighten Cassie's load.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.
He thought it was Rosalind bringing food. He said, "Come in."
"Joseph, I came to hang out with you," a handsome guy in a floral shirt said as he walked in.
Joseph gave him a cold look. He remembered this guy had visited him in the hospital before, but he didn't remember his name. Joseph asked, "Who are you?"
Michael's face stiffened and he replied, "I'm Michael. I visited you in the hospital and introduced myself."
"Oh," Joseph said indifferently and then turned his attention back to the laptop screen, practically treating Michael like he was invisible.
Michael felt like he was back in middle school when Joseph also treated him like air.
"Joseph, I came specifically to see you," Michael said, leaning in closer. "Cassie told me you know your real age now. We've been tight for twenty years. You can't just forget our deep bond because of some amnesia, right?"
"You're noisy," Joseph shot back, looking at him with disdain.
"Fine, I was gonna tell you some important stuff, but it seems unnecessary. I'll bounce."
"Wait," Joseph said again.
"No, I'm outta here. You’re not the same Joseph anymore. You don't care about me as a friend," Michael sighed. "Don't hold me back."
"I'm not holding you back," Joseph said, looking at him speechlessly. 'Did I really have such a friend?' he wondered.
Michael felt awkward. "I'm really leaving."
"Sit down," Joseph pointed to a chair nearby.
Michael finally sat down, trying to act all grand. He glanced at the laptop on the table. "Checking out the Hernandez Group's info?"
Joseph didn't answer. He frowned for a moment and then asked, "What was my relationship with Cassie before?"
"Guess," Michael said with a mischievous grin.
"If I could guess, would I be sitting here talking to you?" Joseph sneered. "If you don't wanna say, forget it. I can find out from someone else."
Michael got a bit angry. "Don't you have any feelings?"
Joseph frowned. He hadn't known how to use a computer or phone before, but this morning, he secretly looked it up on his phone. If an adult man and woman kissed, it meant they had an intimate relationship.
Thinking about the info he found, Joseph's face turned slightly red.
"What are you thinking about?" Michael laughed.
Joseph gave him a cold look and asked, "Is she my girlfriend? But she's married and has kids. So, am I her lover?"
"Impressive! You even found out about the term 'lover,'" Michael said. "But your description is pretty spot on."
Michael's words confirmed it.
Joseph's face darkened.
'Was I really a lover?' he wondered.
"Don't be mad. It's your own fault," Michael said. "Do you know who Sophia and Oliver's dad is?"
"How would I know?" Joseph said irritably. "Just say what you gotta say."
"Sophia and Oliver's dad is you," Michael said coldly.
"What did you say?" Joseph was stunned. Yesterday, he found out he wasn't a two-year-old baby. Today, he had to accept that he had two three-year-old kids?
He held his head. He needed a moment to calm down. "How is that possible?" he questioned.
"Haven't you noticed how much Sophia looks like you? You and Cassie were married before, but you divorced her for another woman. Later, Cassie married David, who turned out to be a fraud and wouldn't divorce her. After you pursued Cassie again, you two got back together, so that's the current situation," Michael explained with a complicated expression.
Joseph frowned deeply.
He hadn't expected his relationship with Cassie to be so complicated.
But thinking about Cassie being his girlfriend and having his kids, he didn't seem to mind it. In fact, he was quite happy.
'That means she would never leave me, right?' Joseph thought.
"Hey, let me show you something," Michael suddenly said with a mysterious smile. "Only a good friend would show you this."
