Chapter 104
""His ""I didn't have much choice"" was laced with a mix of doting indulgence and inevitability.
Noah Collins was speechless. ""So, where is she now? Hit the road right after the meal and left you here?""
""Shut up."" Joseph glared at him, opened the car door, and settled himself inside, closing his eyes in pain, not wanting to utter another word.
Noah Collins took in his pale profile and sneakily snapped a photo, sending it to Cassie Brooks with a message.
""Sis, Hernandez is in bad shape from that dinner with you. Rushing him to the hospital now. Don't be too hard on him. He might not say it, but he cares deeply about you.""
""What were you just doing?"" Joseph's eyes flew open, and he snatched the phone, reading the message. His pride was wounded. ""Care about her? Your brain must be waterlogged.""
""It's a ploy to get 'sis' to come back and take care of you,"" sighed Noah Collins. Was admitting affection so difficult?
Joseph snorted but said no more, his gaze constantly flicking back to the phone, waiting for a response.
It wasn't long before his phone alerted him to a new message.
Cassie Brooks had sent a link to the ""Madison Second Hospital"" official account with a reply:
""This is the best place for treating stomach issues in Madison. Register asap and take him. Oh, and by the way, it was his idea to have spicy dinner, so don't pin that on me. No scamming money out of this.""
Noah Collins involuntarily shrank into himself and reached toward Joseph. ""Can I have my phone back? It's pretty new...""
Before he could finish, the phone was already soaring out the car window at the hands of an incensed Joseph.
Feeling wronged, Noah Collins bit his lip silently, daunted by the sight of his friend enraged.
Now, Joseph's pain wasn't just physical; there was a hint of heartache too.
He didn't understand—how could a woman's feelings change so suddenly? Not long ago, she seemed to love him to death.

In the following days, Arthur Lewis and Kathleen made several runs to the Wit Group without success. David wouldn't see them or even take their calls.
At a loss, Arthur Lewis went straight to the Garden Height villa to find him, but David was out of town on business, and Cassie Brooks was handling everything at the construction site.
""Cassie, could you please call my uncle for me?"" Arthur Lewis approached Cassie Brooks, his once handsome features now gaunt and faded.
Cassie Brooks let out a sigh of pity.
Once a top catch among the elite bachelors of Madison, Arthur Lewis was now nowhere near his former glory.
""Why would I do that for you? You're my enemy,"" she retorted.
""Don't be like that. We grew up together,"" Arthur Lewis pleaded earnestly. ""If we can't salvage the deal with Wit Group, the board will oust me as CEO, and I'll lose my inheritance...""
""Why should I care? You're not my fiancé. Go bother Olivia Brooks, why don't you?""
While talking, Cassie Brooks bit into her sandwich. She hadn't had breakfast and was famished.
""My uncle doesn't even like Olivia Brooks,"" Arthur Lewis insisted, grabbing her hand. ""Cassie, I know you hate me, but I had no choice. My engagement to Olivia Brooks was just to secure my position. Besides, it's not like we're married. You've always been the one in my heart. Have you forgotten the bond we've had since we were kids?""
Cassie Brooks jerked her hand away, feeling so repulsed by him that she nearly lost her appetite.
