Chapter 961 Mystery Man
"Mabel, have you been under stress lately? You look more haggard than before," Evelyn said with a gloating expression, "The Hernandez family had such a big incident. If I were you, I would be more worried than you."
"Even though I'm in such a state, I'm still better than you, sleeping with an old man." Mabel had already regained her composure, or rather, the current Mabel had no time to be sad or angry.
"You..." Evelyn's face changed, and then she shook Marcus's arm. "Marcus, I don't think you are old. You look just in your thirties."
"You're quite the charmer.," Marcus pinched Evelyn's cheek playfully.
As she saw this, Mabel felt disgusted.
Although Marcus had taken good care of himself over the years, at fifty, he still looked like Evelyn's dad.
The young Marcus, in Mabel's mind, was a humble, low-key, and talented man. Now, he made Mabel feel a bit disgusted.
Mabel couldn't even understand why she had fallen for a man like Marcus in the past.
"Marcus, don't be like this. Mabel looks so upset. She is, after all, your ex-wife," Evelyn said.
"You're overthinking it. I find you are quite disgusting. Maybe the age gap between you is too big." Mabel sneered.
Marcus's face changed slightly, and a sinister look appeared in his eyes. "Mabel, do you think I don't know you want to sell the Hernandez House to raise funds? Unfortunately, your plan is doomed to fail."
"What do you mean?" Mabel frowned.
Evelyn covered her mouth and laughed lightly, "Marcus has made arrangements. Although many wealthy families are here tonight and are interested in buying the Hernandez House, Marcus has set the base price at 6 billion dollars. Still, no one can bid over 6.1 billion. Then, Marcus will buy it, and our family of three will live there."
Mabel instantly understood, staring at Marcus in disbelief, her whole body trembling with anger.
"Marcus, don't get too far. You already have everything you want. The Chamberlain family is already the top family in Madison, and your status is very high. There's no need to drive the Hernandez family to extinction, leaving us no way out."
If Mabel had not urgently needed money, she couldn't have sold the Hernandez House urgently, and someone would have bought it for even 20 billion.
Mabel had estimated it could sell for at least 12 billion dollars, but she didn't expect Marcus to be so despicable.
Seeing Mabel's panicked face, Marcus smiled with satisfaction.
"I'm not driving you to extinction. Leaving you with 6 billion dollars is enough for the Hernandez family to live out their days in peace. You should be content, Mabel. You're not young anymore. There is no need to think about fighting and struggling again. Be careful. You might end up with nothing," Marcus remarked.
"Yeah, isn't Joseph the best example?" Evelyn said smugly, "Joseph brought down the entire Hernandez family, so people shouldn't be too greedy."
Mabel, furious, raised her hand to slap Marcus.
However, Marcus was prepared and pushed Mabel away, pulling Evelyn by the waist, "Let's go."
"Marcus, Liam is missing, and you still have the leisure to scheme against me and be with another woman," Mabel said sadly, "You're too heartless. Liam is your son."
"There's nothing I can do. It's not like I lost Liam. Besides, Liam isn't my only son. Evelyn can still have children with me anytime." Marcus left with Evelyn indifferently.
Mabel stood there in a daze. It wasn't until a long time later that she snapped out of it and quickly walked towards the organizers of the charity event.
Cassie guessed that Mabel was going to withdraw the Hernandez family estate from the auction, but it was difficult for Mabel.
Most people came tonight for the Hernandez House. If the auction was suddenly canceled, the organizers would lose credibility.
After Mabel departed, Cassie made her way towards the restroom, her heart heavy with emotions.
As she turned a corner, a tall man caught her eye, casually leaning against the wall and smoking.
Cassie was startled, thinking, 'How long did this man stand there? He must have heard the conversation between Mabel and Marcus.'
Cassie glanced at him.
This man was really tall, with a scar on his cheek. He wore sunglasses, but it was clear that his facial features were rugged, with a prominent nose. Dressed in a black suit, he gave off an oppressive aura.
He looked like he was in his forties, but he was quite charming.
Noticing Cassie's gaze, the man took the cigarette out of his mouth, put his hands in his pockets, and walked away.
Cassie returned to the private room after using the restroom, and Laura immediately complained, "You took too long. The Hernandez House auction is about to start."
"Let it be. The Hernandez House will definitely end up in the Chamberlain family's hands tonight." Cassie thought of Mabel's desolate figure and felt a surge of sympathy.
"How do you know?" Laura looked at Cassie curiously.
Cassie told Laura what she had just seen. Laura was furious after hearing it. "Marcus is too much. Six billion dollars? The Hernandez family estate is in such a good location. You can't even buy a part of it for that price. I'll bid 7 billion to raise the price. I don't like the Hernandez family, but I hate that scumbag even more."
Cassie blinked. "What if you bid 7 billion and no one else bids? Can you come up with 7 billion?"
Laura immediately lost her spirit.
"Don't say anything. If Marcus finds out, he'll come after you." Cassie reminded, "Can't you see? Marcus is a vengeful guy."
At 9 PM, the auction for the Hernandez House finally began.
The host said, "The Hernandez House is the largest estate in Madison, covering 8 million square feet. It has orchards, a racetrack, a golf course, everything you want. Most people in Madison dream of spending a week at the Hernandez House. Even a random tree there is worth thousands dollars, with a long history. The starting bid is 6 billion."
Soon, someone in Box 1 raised a bid. "Six billion and one dollars."
"You're too stingy. I'll bid 6 billion and one hundred dollars."
"I'll add a thousand dollars, no more."
