Chapter 192
""Mr. Collins, care to join us for a bit? Looks like you're flying solo now,"" Andrew quipped smugly as he reached the doorway.
""Damn it, Andrew, you came here just to poach my people, didn't you?"" Noah Collins slammed his fist on the table, standing up in a rage.
""Do I need to poach anyone? Smart people go where the grass is greener,"" Andrew raised an eyebrow. ""At this rate, the Collins family’s reign as Madison's number one might not last much longer.""
""In your dreams, thinking you can climb to the top by hooking up with that shameless tramp from the Jones family,"" Noah Collins sneered, pointing at Olivia Brooks. ""Talk about second-hand goods; she was someone else's fiancée just last month. Watch your back.""
Olivia’s face soured, and she retorted icily, “Mr. Collins, watch your words, or when my dad takes over as CEO next month, I won't hesitate to put the Collins family in the crosshairs first thing.”
Cassie couldn’t hold back a laugh. ""Don't count your chickens before they hatch. If Mr. Brooks doesn’t make CEO next month, you'll lose more than just face.""
""Exactly,"" Laura Miller chimed in with a particularly wicked grin. ""The Brooks family already has a dodgy rep; don't drag down the long-standing reputation of Peace Group too.""
""Enjoy yourselves,"" Noah added with a chuckle.
""Laugh it up now, but next month you'll be the ones crying,"" Olivia snapped back, her face stone cold as she and Andrew left the private room.
All that remained was Charlotte Jones, who sauntered over to Joseph with a flirtatious smile. ""Mr. Hernandez, why don't you come over?""
Joseph gave her a frosty glance, barely stopping himself from telling her to get lost.
But Charlotte Jones wasn’t fazed. Ever since their first encounter, she hadn't met a man of his caliber – such exceptional poise and character. It was a pity, though, that her status wasn’t quite on par with his. However, once she learned he was one of the top lawyers in the city, she felt they were truly meant for each other.
""Mr. Hernandez, perhaps you're not fully aware of the Jones family's standing,"" Charlotte began with a warm smile. ""The Jones family has assets well over fifty billion, involved in sectors like dining, tourism, and fintech. We're about to partner with the Fortune 500 company, Peace Group; the possibilities are limitless. Who knows? We might even surpass our nation's wealthiest, the Hernandez family.""
""Pfft."" Noah Collins couldn't help but burst out laughing, a yell almost breaking free from his throat: 'Hick, the richest man in the room is right beside you, pal.'
The corners of Joseph's mouth twitched. He was tempted to shove the woman next to him away; her stench was unbearable. But catching Cassie's gaze from nearby, he clenched his jaw and stayed silent.
Misinterpreting his restraint for interest, Charlotte Jones boldly snuggled up against Joseph's shoulder. ""Be my man, and you'll amass more wealth than you ever could from fighting lawsuits your whole life.""
His eyes narrowing, Joseph gave no hint of being swayed, but Charlotte mistook his silence for interest and whispered seductively into his ear, ""A penniless woman like Cassie can't hold a candle to me.""
Her hand began to wander up Joseph's chest.
Cassie, her eyes stinging at the sight, fueled by rage, snatched up a glass of wine and splashed it onto Charlotte's face, ice cubes and all.
""Ah! Cassie, are you crazy?"" Charlotte screamed, jumping up and frantically wiping her face and clothes with napkins.
""It looks like you're the one starving for attention – thought I'd cool you down,"" Cassie retorted.
Standing protectively in front of Joseph, Cassie sneered, ""I'm warning you, he's my man. Lay a finger on him again, and I'll chop it off.""
""Your man?"" Charlotte jeered, as if she'd heard the funniest joke ever. ""He couldn't have been farther from you just a minute ago. Are you sure about that? Don't embarrass yourself.""
Cassie, reminded of Joseph's earlier coldness, felt a twinge of uncertainty.
However, Charlotte's mockery left her no room for retreat.
Just then, Joseph's icy voice came from behind: ""Get lost.""
