Chapter 616
Cassie raised an eyebrow, "You're the scoundrel here, why are you getting embarrassed? What purity are you pretending to have, Joseph? I'm just thinking that you don't need to see a urologist. You should take Megan to see a doctor. Women don't need to be so hungry, don't you think you're asking for too much?"
"Don't even compare yourself to Megan," Joseph retorted, understanding Cassie's insinuation.
But he had made Megan wait for three years. Could she really be lonely?
A flicker of complexity danced in Joseph's eyes, uncertainty suddenly enveloping him.
"Isn't it evident that it's me? We even share children," Cassie retorted, her voice steady, her cheeks unflushed.
Joseph found himself utterly taken aback, his mind reeling. He had suspicions of Cassie's attempts at seduction, yet he lacked the concrete proof to validate his thoughts.
"Have you made your decision?" Cassie abruptly queried, her tone nonchalant.
Caught off guard, Joseph's brows furrowed in confusion, "Are you referring to the company?"
"It's your call whether you hand it over to me or not. I won't apologize to Megan, that's out of the question," Cassie declared calmly, "But my patience isn't infinite. I can wait until tomorrow at most. Beyond that, I fear I might lose control and expose all the sordid deeds you two have committed."
" Cassie," Joseph's voice rang out, anger simmering beneath his words, his eyes radiating a chilling shock. "Do you not realize who you are? How dare you threaten me?"
"What? Are you trying to silence me?" Cassie shot back, her fearlessness evident.
Joseph's handsome features contorted, his expression growing increasingly unpleasant. Was he nothing more than a cold-hearted psychopath in Cassie's eyes?
"You believe I won't dare?" Joseph warned, his voice low and menacing, his teeth gritted.
"I have no doubt. Even now, and in the past, you wouldn't have been able to strangle me without a second thought," Cassie retorted, a smile playing on her lips.
Joseph chuckled dryly, "Don't try to trick me. Our altercation would certainly draw the attention of the neighbors and the community residents. Moreover, the moment I set foot in this community, I was under surveillance. If you were to die, the blame would undoubtedly fall on me.
"Even if I desired to use my wealth to bury the truth, it would inevitably attract the attention of others, such as the Chamberlain family. They've been plotting to challenge my status as the head of the strongest family in Madison. They would undoubtedly seize this opportunity to tarnish my reputation and possibly even incarcerate me."
"You've analyzed it quite thoroughly," Cassie remarked, her smile unwavering.
Joseph let out a frustrated laugh. Did Cassie genuinely believe he would murder her? The thought of committing such an act had never crossed his mind. Just how distorted was Cassie's perception of him?
Cassie returned to her task of chopping vegetables, her head lowered. "In the past, you could intimidate me with my father and Laura, but my father is fine now, and Laura is no longer here. I stand alone now, unafraid of anything."
Joseph's gaze fixated on Cassie's neck, the truth of her words resonating within him.
There was no longer any leverage he could use to threaten this woman.
Joseph remained silent for a long, drawn-out half-minute before finally speaking, "I can agree to your terms, but you must agree to file for a divorce."
"No," Cassie dismissed Joseph's proposal without even raising her head.
Joseph's fury ignited. "Don't push your luck. I've already made more than enough concessions."
