Chapter 1767 "Are you blind?"

The big badminton hall only had two courts.

There were just five of them inside.

When Bernice spoke, both shuttlecocks had just hit the ground. Even though she kept her voice down, her words still echoed everywhere.

Cassie and Laura didn't think anything was off.

But Bernice's boss, Lucas, was still hanging around.

Everyone glanced at Lucas.

Lucas smirked as he bent down to pick up the shuttlecock.

"Come on, let's keep playing," Joseph said, feeling a bit uneasy.

On the other side, Max was almost fuming at Bernice's cocky attitude. "Bernice, aren't you being a bit too full of yourself? Even the top actors and actresses aren't as stuck-up as you. Emery's directed at least five or six TV series, maybe more. He's got connections and knows a lot of people. If you don't appreciate this chance, you might tick people off and struggle to get roles later."

"Anyway, I'm not interested. Weren't you planning to promote Sarah? Just let her be the lead actress."

"Bernice, that contract was signed before you ditched the company. If you don't go, you'll have to pay the penalty yourself," Max snapped.

"Mr. Jenkins, Emery couldn't wait to cut ties with me a few days before my incident. I signed the contract too. Whether he refunds you the money or not is your problem. It has nothing to do with me, so don't drag me into it."

Bernice hung up the phone decisively.

Laura and Cassie wisely kept quiet.

Bernice took Cassie's spot, and on the other side, Lucas's phone rang. He handed the racket to Cassie, letting her and Joseph play.

Lucas answered Max's call.

Max angrily complained, "Lucas, I don't know what Bernice's deal is. She doesn't want to act in Emery's series and even said that kind of series isn't good enough for her."

"I heard," Lucas said calmly. "We're all playing badminton in the hall."

Max gasped, "So, you guys made up?"

"No, we just ran into each other."

Max sighed, "I wonder if she doesn't want to act because Sarah is the second female lead. Honestly, I thought it was a bad idea for Sarah to be the second female lead. She doesn't get along with Bernice, but Sarah insisted on doing this series. Maybe you should talk to Sarah."

Lucas glanced at Bernice not far away, remembering her cold and arrogant attitude earlier. He suddenly smiled coldly. "The company isn't run by Bernice. I'll do as I please. What right does she have to make our company bend to her?"

He deliberately raised his voice so Bernice could hear him.

Bernice raised an eyebrow but didn't show any emotion.

Max, unaware of the silent battle between the two, said, "But she signed a new contract with us. There are many things we can't control about her now."

"Let her keep being arrogant. If she has the guts, she can leave the industry," Lucas said loudly. "She really thinks she's something just because she has someone backing her. Directors aren't fools. Women in the entertainment industry only have resources while they're young. If she misses those years, she'll regret it."

Max thought about it and agreed. Bernice wouldn't be that stupid unless she didn't want to stay in the entertainment industry anymore.

She had worked hard to clear her name, definitely to make more money in the industry. She was probably just messing with him this time.

"Alright, I'm going back to my game."

Lucas hung up the phone.

Cassie and Joseph were still playing, so he sat down to drink some water.

The resting area was smack in the middle of the two courts, and when he looked up, he could see Bernice playing right in front of him.

Today, Bernice had her hair tied up in a neat ponytail. She wore black tight-fitting pants, a purple sports T-shirt, and white sneakers, showing off her delicate ankle.

Bernice's badminton skills were pretty good. Sometimes when she bent over, from his spot, he could see her perky butt. When she jumped, her chest was also quite noticeable.

Lucas had been with her before; he knew every inch of her body.

Maybe it was because he hadn't had sex recently.

Lucas's gaze shifted.

He took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a couple of puffs.

Laura, seeing his expression, was annoyed and secretly signaled to Bernice.

Bernice stayed quiet and didn't quite get it at first

After a while, Bernice saw Laura hit a high shot.

Bernice turned around to chase the shuttlecock and saw it heading towards Lucas. She quickly caught on.

To not let Laura's effort go to waste, Bernice pretended to desperately go for the shot, swinging her racket and hitting his cigarette.

The cigarette was knocked to the ground, and some sparks landed on Lucas's arm, burning him. He hurriedly stood up to brush off the sparks.

But his delicate hand was still red.

When Lucas looked up, his eyes behind the glasses were furious. "Are you blind?"

Bernice's face turned cold.

Laura quickly came over. "Mr. Nelson, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have hit the shuttlecock towards you."

"What's going on?"

At the entrance of the court, Derek walked in with a friend.

Seeing Laura apologizing to Lucas, Derek quickly walked over to her side. "What happened?"

Laura pouted pitifully, "I accidentally hit the shuttlecock towards Mr. Nelson, and Bernice, trying to catch it, hit Mr. Nelson's cigarette."

"It's fine," Lucas said, his menacing look fading.

"Mr. Nelson won't mind this," Derek said gently, patting Laura's head. He knew her temper well enough to know if she did it on purpose.

But Derek thought Laura was too impulsive. She vented her anger for a moment, but would make Lucas target Bernice even more.

"Smoking is not allowed in the hall," suddenly said the man who came with Derek. "It's written on the wall."

Everyone immediately looked at him.

The man looked about the same age as Derek, with a buzz cut and slightly darker skin, but his facial features were sharp and defined, with a hint of sharpness in his eyes.

What was more impressive was his straight posture and tall stature, like a drawn sword.

Bernice was stunned, her gaze briefly meeting his for two seconds before quickly looking away.

"Derek, is this your friend?" Laura's eyes lit up. "Quick, introduce us."

Derek, feeling a bit frustrated by Laura's gaze, said, "Milan Runyon, a classmate of mine. We're both PhD students."

Lucas's eyes flashed with a hint of contemplation.

"You're so tall," Laura said, shaking his hand, then paused. Milan's hands had many calluses, but they didn't seem like those from hard labor. They were more like the ones she had seen on people at the Presidential Palace.
