Chapter 229

""No, no, no,"" Richard hastily interjected, his mind flashing back to Joseph's stern instructions from the previous day. He moved to block her path, his voice pleading. ""He made it clear that he didn't want you to know, Miss Brooks. Please, in light of my sharing my personal videos with you, pretend you're ignorant of all this. I implore you.""

Despite her growing suspicion, Cassie was taken aback by the confirmation that slipped from Richard's lips. Joseph was indeed a part of Madison's most prestigious family, the Hernandezes. The realization that even Richard held Joseph in such high esteem, and fear, made her wonder if Joseph could possibly be a direct descendant. She had never fathomed that she would become entangled with a member of the Hernandez family, a complexity too great for an ordinary woman like her to grasp.

""Alright, your secret is safe with me. But I'm curious, how does Olivia know you?"" Cassie inquired, struggling to maintain her composure.

""Andrew introduced us,"" Richard replied, his voice laced with contempt. ""One of my assistants is a relative of the Joneses. Andrew wanted to gain my favor, so he sent his girlfriend over.""

A smirk played on Cassie's lips. ""You take pleasure in sleeping with another man's girlfriend?""

Richard coughed awkwardly. ""Well... there's something intriguing about the allure of the forbidden, isn't there?""

Cassie was rendered speechless. She found herself wondering if Richard was the only dysfunctional one in the Hernandez family, or if they were all equally eccentric.

---

Back at her office, Cassie's mind was a whirlwind of confusion. She had initially married Joseph under the impression that he was merely a relative of Arthur Lewis, then later believed him to be just a lawyer. Now, he was revealed to be a figure of legend. She wasn't surprised, rather, she was filled with a profound sense of dread. Being involved with Joseph meant a life far from ordinary, likely fraught with challenges. Would his family ever accept her?

Suddenly feeling drained and desperate for a distraction, she clicked on the video Richard had shared with her. Her initial intention was to find something to use against Olivia, but she hadn't anticipated the explicit content causing her, a girl so inexperienced in such matters, to blush furiously.

Joe, who was standing nearby, noticed her engrossed in the video and awkwardly reminded her, ""Miss Brooks, didn't you promise you wouldn't watch that? And Mr. Hernandez wouldn't approve of such content.""

""Uh... if you don't mention it and I don't mention it, he won't know,"" she replied with a sheepish grin. She knew she wouldn't dare to glance at Richard's risqué photos if there was a chance of Hernandez finding out.

Joe rolled his eyes, resigned to the situation. It seemed he would have to turn a blind eye to this.

Suddenly, an idea struck Cassie as she considered the video in her hands. She hastily called in her assistant, ""Didn't Samuel mention a charity auction happening soon?""

""Yes, it's tonight. You've been invited, and many elites from Madison will be there.""

""Perfect, I'll attend tonight,"" Cassie declared, a wicked grin spreading across her face. Today would be Olivia's day of reckoning.

...

Meanwhile, at his hotel, Richard was preparing to leave Madison after just departing the Peace Group. The thought of being in the same city as Joseph filled him with dread. However, the moment he opened his office door and saw the imposing figure lounging on the leather couch, his knees buckled, and his lip quivered. ""Good timing. I was just about to inform you that I visited the Peace Group, and everything's been handled. No one will bother Cassie anymore.""
