Chapter 1599 Laura Is Destined to Be Noble
Laura trended again in the evening, but she was completely unaware of it. The trend was short-lived and quickly taken down, but many people still noticed.
Among those people were Violet and Carl.
In the private dinning room that night
Violet and Carl had just finished dinner when the secretary handed over a file. "The rumor about Laura being destined to become the First Lady started from this ID. I checked, and this person is the former assistant of the third-ranked student of Tristan, the famous fortune teller in Whisperlyn City."
"Tristan?" Carl frowned, familiar with the name.
Many wealthy families in Whisperlyn City had private dealings with Tristan, who was reputed to be quite skilled in fortune-telling.
Although Carl didn't believe in such things, people in high positions often consulted about marriage matters.
A few years ago, Tristan had even visited Whispering Pines Manor for a reading, and Carl had met him.
"Rumors like this don't just appear out of nowhere," Carl snorted, instructing, "Remind certain people that they shouldn't spread false rumors about the President's family."
The secretary, Dominic Grant, pursed his lips, looking hesitant.
Violet took the hot tea handed to her by a servant and gently brushed it aside. "Dominic, if you have something to say, just say it."
"Here's the thing." Dominic spoke softly, "After the incident, I was worried that person had other motives, so I immediately had them detained. According to them, what they said was true. Before Laura and Michael got married, Caroline had privately asked Tristan about Laura's future. Tristan predicted that Laura would face hardships early on but would be very fortunate afterward, destined to become someone of great importance."
He went on, "Laura's situation was extremely rare, and Tristan's students who were present remembered it vividly. This person heard it from Tristan's students and casually mentioned it when they saw Laura trending today, which sparked the discussion."
Violet was taken aback. "We can just ask Caroline about this."
She looked at Carl, who remained silent, then picked up her phone and called Caroline, putting it on speaker. "Caroline, have you finished dinner?"
"Just finished. What's up?"
"Here's the thing. Laura was trending today, and I saw someone saying she's destined to become the First Lady. Given Laura's current status, I was worried it might cause trouble, so I had it taken down. When Dominic looked into it, he found the source was a student of Tristan named Blake. I wanted to check with you if this is true."
"Tristan can't even protect his clients' privacy," Caroline complained. "Yes, it's true. I asked Tristan to read Laura and Michael's marriage compatibility. Tristan's predictions were spot on."
Violet was surprised. "What did he say?"
"Tristan said Laura was destined to become someone of great importance. She would face early hardships but become more distinguished over time. Her fortune would also bring luck to her husband. However, her marriage with Michael wasn't ideal because Michael wasn't very committed. If they could get through the first three years smoothly, they could stay together for life. If not, they weren't meant to be."
Caroline sighed regretfully. "I was conflicted at the time. Laura's future was promising, but if she and Michael weren't compatible, I couldn't force it. Tristan said Michael would have a rough love life regardless of who he married. If it weren't for Laura being pregnant, Michael might not have married at all. So, we pushed for their marriage."
Violet understood. "No wonder you were so keen on their marriage."
"Yes, and look how well Michael's career went after they got married. As soon as they divorced, everything went downhill."
After hanging up, Carl said, "Laura becoming our Goddaughter indeed makes her distinguished."
Violet nodded thoughtfully. "Tristan is quite famous domestically. If he said such things, Laura's future must be extraordinary. The word 'distinguished' isn't used lightly. Laura might have other opportunities in the future."
Carl was silent for a few seconds before nodding.
"What a pity," Violet sighed. "If only she had been matched with Derek."
Carl was slightly taken aback and then frowned. "Don't say such things."
"I'm just saying," Violet smiled and turned to the servant. "Has Laura not returned yet?"
"No, Laura said she would be working late in the lab tonight."
"Laura is so hardworking," Violet said, her face showing a look of approval.
"You were just as hardworking when you were young," Carl teased. "Whenever I asked you out, you were either working late or on your way to work."
"A woman should always have her own career. Laura is serious about everything. I believe she will go far."
Violet was increasingly satisfied with Laura.
Whispering Pines Manor.
Caroline hung up the phone and turned around to find Michael standing there, looking dazed.
"Mom, is what you just said true?" Michael asked, wide-eyed.
Caroline was taken aback, realizing he had heard everything she said to Violet. "Yes."
She got up to leave, but Michael grabbed her. "Why didn't you tell me before?"
"You never believed in these things. What was the point of telling you? Besides, it's all in the past."
Caroline went upstairs, not bothering to deal with Michael, who had been staying at Whispering Pines Manor more often lately.
For her own peace of mind, she decided to speak to him less.
Michael stood there, lost in thought.
No, he didn't believe in such things. They were all lies.
As for why such things were trending online...
Michael squinted and called Derek. "Did you deliberately spread the rumor about Laura being predicted by a fortune teller?"
"Michael, what are you talking about? I have work to do."
"Cut it out, Derek," Michael interrupted harshly. "Do you think this will make the Jude family accept you and Laura together? Stop dreaming."
