Chapter 102
""Immediately, every pair of eyes on the bus converged on Cassie, especially the girls who looked on with a mix of jealousy and admiration.
Cassie snapped back impatiently, ""Stop yelling nonsense; I don't even know who you are.""
""Sweetheart, can't we just argue at home instead of making a scene in public?"" Joseph uttered with a wry smile, fishing a document out of his pocket. ""Lucky I brought our marriage certificate today.""
He unfolded the document to show everyone.
An old man chimed in, ""So she really is your wife, young lady. That's a bit much, you almost had us fooled.""
The bus driver chimed in irritably, ""Pay up and help your husband, let's not air our private issues in public.""
A young woman sneered, ""If I had such a handsome husband, I'd be over the moon, not jealous.""
Cassie thought she was going to lose her mind. Joseph really was one of a kind, carrying their marriage certificate around like that.
Amidst the chorus of disapproval, she gritted her teeth and covered Joseph's fare.
Joseph wrapped an arm around her waist and whispered in her ear with his seductively deep voice, ""Thanks, darling.""
His breath tickled her earlobe, leaving her blushing from ear to ear under the gaze of all the passengers.
All she could do was glare at him powerlessly, her eyes screaming: Get lost.
Unperturbed, Joseph followed her to the back of the bus.
Cassie ignored him, focused on her phone, texting David: Mr. Foster, apologies, my period just started and I feel under the weather. Heading home.
Joseph caught a glimpse, feeling a complex mix of emotions.
Not only had she changed her WhatsApp username, but she was brazenly texting David right in front of him, as if she didn't care a bit about his feelings.
""When did you start feeling unwell?"" he asked.
Cassie responded tersely, ""How long are you going to follow me? I have to get to work.""
""I'm hungry, I haven't eaten.""
His puppy-dog eyes did nothing to sway her. "" I'm not responsible for your meals.""
Her cold words and unfeeling expression set Joseph on edge but also left him feeling torn; he couldn't understand how she had changed so abruptly.
""If you don't feed me, I'll end up coming to the office with you.""
Cassie rolled her eyes, but to tell the truth, she hadn't eaten either and was starting to feel hungry now too.
A cunning glint appeared in her eyes as she glanced out the window. Suddenly, she had an idea.
""There's no way I'm cooking for you, but we can eat out. I choose the spot, and if you don't like it, deal with it on your own.""
Joseph looked at her, somehow instinctively wanting to spend a little more time with her. ""Fine.""
Ten minutes later, they stood in front of a barbecue restaurant.
Joseph hesitated at the entrance, frowning at her. She did this on purpose, well aware that he had a sensitive stomach.
Cassie pretended not to notice and marched right in, craving the barbecue she hadn't had for ages because she'd been cooking for him.
