Chapter 1281: A Rewarding Kiss

Cassie grabbed Joseph's hand and pulled him inside. Joseph kept glancing back, feeling kinda weird and uneasy.

Was he too harsh earlier?

Cassie had told him not to judge people by their looks; it's not his fault Cameron looked old.

Once they were in the villa, Sophia wasn't jealous anymore. She remembered what Mommy said about treating the current Daddy like a good friend.

"Hey Joey, Oliver and I have this toy house. Wanna play with us?" Sophia asked.

Joseph was tempted but looked at Cassie for approval.

He wanted to play but also wanted to stick around Cassie.

"Go on, I just got back. I need a shower and a change of clothes," Cassie said softly. She'd been stuck in the hospital for days and felt all gross.

"Oh, okay," Joseph mumbled, a bit bummed out.

"Come on, don't always cling to Mommy. We can play by ourselves," Sophia said, dragging him into the toy room.

The toy room was huge, packed with pink dolls and a bunch of Lego pieces.

"Let's play house," Sophia suggested, excited to finally have a playmate. Oliver and Grandma never liked playing house, and doing it alone was super boring.

She pulled out all her toys. "I'll show you how to play."

Joseph ignored her and picked up some Lego pieces from the floor.

"Hey, those are Oliver's. Don't touch them. If you lose a piece, he'll freak out," Sophia warned. "Besides, it's too hard. No one can put it together."

Oliver shot her a look. "Am I no one?"

Sophia stuck out her tongue. "But you've been working on that Lego for a week and still haven't finished it. Grandma said it's for adults over 18, but you insisted on buying it. Total waste of money."

Oliver's face tightened. "I wanna play with it. I'll finish it soon. Hey, don't mess with my blocks."

Joseph acted like he didn't hear and started flipping through the instruction booklet on the table.

"Why are you looking so serious? You can't even read," Sophia sighed. "If only the old Daddy were here. He was smart and could probably do this easily. As for you, your IQ is lower than mine."

"This seems pretty simple," Joseph said suddenly after looking for a while.

"Simple?" Oliver said, like it was a joke. "Yeah, right."

"Yeah, simple," Joseph said, not catching the sarcasm, and began sorting the pieces.

At first, Oliver and Sophia didn't believe him, but when they saw him assemble a complete car chassis, they were stunned.

In less than forty minutes, Joseph had put together a cool, army-green Lamborghini.

"See, it's simple," Joseph said and pressed a button to open the car's doors upward.

Oliver was dumbfounded, and Sophia was bewildered.

Was that really a two-year-old IQ?

How could he assemble it so quickly and perfectly?

It was just too shocking.

At that moment, Cassie walked in after her shower. She was wearing a loose pink loungewear set, her freshly washed hair draped over her shoulders, adding a touch of softness to her already relaxed vibe. Despite her laziness, her face was even more radiant.

Especially after the shower, she brought in a pleasant scent of body wash.

Sophia and Oliver were used to this scent 'cause Cassie always smelled like this after showering at home.

But Joseph wasn't. Cassie had showered at the hospital before, but it was a different, fresher scent. Today, the new, pleasant scent made his mouth dry and his heart race.

He looked up at Cassie, her dark hair and red lips, and felt an inexplicable urge to kiss her.

But someone moved faster—Sophia.

"Mommy, you finished shower," Sophia said and hugged Cassie's leg.

"Yep," Cassie said. She squatted down to check out the assembled Lamborghini on the floor. She smiled and praised, "Oliver, isn't this the Lego set Grandma got you last time? You really finished it. Great job."

Oliver blushed, feeling embarrassed.

Joseph snorted and pouted.

Sophia covered her mouth and giggled. "Mommy, Oliver didn't do it. He worked on it for a week and couldn't finish it. Joey just did it in no time. He's amazing."

Joseph immediately puffed up like a proud little peacock, lifting his head high. He hadn't thought it was a big deal when he finished it, but now that Cassie was here, he really wanted her to praise him.

Cassie looked at him in surprise, her eyes full of astonishment.

Although she had noticed Joseph's intelligence slowly increasing over the past few days, he wasn't a fool but was like a child. But these bricks really tested one's brain.

Oliver was very smart and loved playing with Legos since he was little. He could now play with 18+ sets, but he hadn't finished this one. Yet Joseph could do it quickly.

What did that mean? It meant his intelligence might have always been there.

"Yes, Joey is really amazing," Cassie said and patted his short black hair.

Joseph smiled happily and showed a row of white teeth. "Can I get a reward?"

"Sure," Cassie laughed. "What do you want?"

"I want a kiss," Joseph said immediately.

"Pfft," Sophia burst out laughing and covered her mouth.

Oliver also smirked. He had secretly seen Joseph and Cassie interact before, and their kisses were not like those for children.

Cassie blushed deeply. It wouldn't matter if it were just her and Joseph, but the kids were here.

She reluctantly said, "Yes, you deserve a kiss. Everyone gets one."

She kissed each of them on their foreheads, with Joseph being the last one.

After the kiss, Joseph frowned. This wasn't the kind of kiss he wanted. He was about to speak when Cassie immediately gave him a stern look.

He instinctively stopped talking and pouted unhappily.

"Alright, you guys play. I have some things to take care of."

Cassie quickly slipped away.

In the reception room, Nathaniel waited for a while.

"Mrs. Brooks, Olivia hasn't been to the company these past two days, and Mr. Hernandez hasn't either. No one is managing the company," he said.

"Olivia is dead," Cassie said flatly.

"What?" Nathaniel was stunned. Olivia had spent so much money and effort to acquire 70% of the Hernandez Group's shares, and now she's dead? "Really?"

"I'm going to the funeral parlour this afternoon. I need to see if it's really Olivia, even if it's just her body," Cassie said coldly. She needed to be sure, in case Olivia had another scheme to reappear and cause trouble.
