Chapter 101

""She ended the call quickly, and when she faced Joseph again, her entire being was blushing like a tomato.

Joseph, noticing her flushed state, couldn't help but feel a touch of satisfaction, the corner of his mouth lifting sensually, ""So, you were dealing with a stomach issue just now?""

Cassie shot him a withering glare, her frustration palpable. ""Look, if you want to avoid a scandal, I suggest you grant me a divorce sooner rather than later.""

Joseph pressed her again, his voice icy as he countered, ""You think you can threaten me? Cassie, if you cheat, I'll make sure you regret it dearly.""

Undeterred, Cassie retorted, ""Come on, I know you're a lawyer with plenty of tricks to drag my name through the mud. But honestly, my reputation can't sink any lower, and last time I checked, cheating isn't grounds for a death sentence under the law, is it? Plus, we don't have any post-marital financial disputes to speak of, so what can you really do to me?""

She raised her eyebrows triumphantly, leaving Joseph feeling a mix of anger and amusement at her audacity.

""Who said you haven't broken any laws? During our marriage, if a wife goes against her husband's wishes and uses illicit means to force relations, not to mention the misuse of drugs that endanger his health, I could get you sentenced to five years in prison. Believe it or not?""

He leaned in close, his voice a dangerous, husky whisper warning her.

Cassie froze.

""It looks like you really don't understand the law. Come with me. If I find out you've gone to dinner with David again, one letter from my law office will land on your company's doorstep.""

With a mocking laugh, Joseph grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the restaurant.

Today, Joseph was using Noah's car, who was still eating upstairs. Hesitating on whether to call Walter for a pickup, Cassie suddenly wrenched her hand away and boarded a nearby city bus.

""Stay right there!"" Joseph instinctively chased after her.

As he attempted to board, the driver stopped him, ""Sir, you need to pay.""

""I don't have any cash.""

""Do you have a card then?""

Frustrated, Joseph admitted, ""I didn't bring it.""

He never needed such things.

The driver, visibly annoyed, said, ""If you don't have anything, get off the bus. You look respectable enough, trying to ride for free?""

Feeling a level of embarrassment he had never known, Joseph glared at Cassie, who was sitting smugly at the back, ""Come up here and pay for me.""

But Cassie turned her head away, feigning ignorance.

All eyes on the bus were on Joseph, whose presence was somehow even more striking than that of a movie star.

A shy girl sitting near the front offered, ""Sir, I have money. I can help you pay.""

""I've got a bus card,"" another girl chimed in eagerly.

Joseph was unfazed. He suddenly turned to Cassie with an affectionate look, calling out loudly, ""Honey, don't be mad. I know I was at fault earlier, I shouldn't let jealousy get the better of me. Can you come up and pay for me, please?""
