Chapter 443

The news that Leo Chapman had brought in Dr. Angelino for treatment quickly reached Vera's ears.

She nearly panicked, immediately dialing a number on her phone. "Leo Chapman will wake up in a month."

"Keep cool, it might just be one of Cassie's tricks."

"But Dr. Angelino is really talented, he's woken people from comas before," Vera said frantically. "If Leo wakes up, he's going to suspect me. He'll divorce me, and I could end up with nothing."

"Don't worry, I'll take over Chapman Industries within a month."

"And what good will that do me if I don't have the shares?" Vera said bitterly. "Why didn't you just make sure he was dead?"

"Relax, he won't last much longer," the voice on the other end of the line assured.

"I have no one to trust but you now, it's all for our daughter, Luna," Vera responded, her voice choked with emotion. As she ended the call, her heart felt heavy with the weight of her secrets.

Suddenly, the door burst open, revealing a pale-faced Luna. "Mom, who were you talking to? Who are you planning to kill? Dad?" she demanded, her eyes wide with shock.

Vera's expression hardened. "Mind your own business. It's late; shouldn't you be at the office?" she deflected, trying to steer the conversation away from the dangerous territory.

"Mom, don't change the subject. I heard everything," Luna insisted, her gaze never leaving her mother. "Did you really arrange Dad's car accident? How could you? He's your husband, and what was that about 'our daughter'? Am I not Dad's..."

"Shut up, he's not my husband," Vera admitted, her voice breaking as she could no longer hide the truth. "That's right, he's not your father."

Luna stood there, stunned. "Impossible, that can't be... Leo Chapman is my father."

"Listen to me, Luna,” Vera pleaded, her grip tightening on her daughter’s shoulders, her eyes brimming with fiery determination. “When your father wanted a divorce, he offered you a mere five percent of Leo’s Enterprises. Cassie got thirty-five percent. I did all of this for you.”

Hatred flickered in Luna’s eyes. “How could Dad... Why? Why do this to me?”

“Exactly,” Vera said bitterly. “With just five percent of the shares, we'll lose our standing among New York’s high society. Even Felix wouldn’t want you.”

Luna’s lips were pressed into a thin line; the pain of being abandoned by Joseph was not something she was prepared to face again. “Mom, why does everyone favor Cassie? Am I really not Dad’s daughter? Then who is my father?”

“Stop crying, your father will leave Leo’s Enterprises to you,” Vera embraced her, offering a sliver of comfort. “You'll understand soon.”

...

Soon enough, Walter arrived with the latest updates on Leo’s Enterprises for Cassie.

During this period, Atlas had been rallying shareholders, even managing to oust Leo Chapman’s most trusted associates with various pretexts.

Within a matter of weeks, Leo’s Enterprises was almost entirely under Atlas’s control.

“Rosalind, you were right,” Walter admitted to Cassie, impressed. “The whole business world has been shaken by Atlas these past few days. People say the lame duck had been hiding his talents too well.”

“How is Luna doing?” Cassie asked suddenly.

“She’s now the vice-chair of the company. Initially, she wasn’t very committed, but about two weeks ago, she became incredibly dedicated. It seems she’s been supporting Atlas in several shareholder meetings,” Walter reported.

Cassie pondered for a moment. “How is Atlas treating Luna?”

“Pretty well, actually. Just the other day he entrusted her with a major project. And it seems Leo’s family and the Chamberlains are gearing up for a partnership...”

Cassie looked up sharply. “Walter, do me a favor—can you get a sample of Atlas and Luna’s hair for a DNA test?”

Walter was taken aback. “You suspect... Surely not.”

“Doesn’t it strike you as odd? If Atlas aligned with Vera solely to gain control of Leo’s Enterprises, shouldn’t he have discarded Vera and her daughter by now? Yet he continues to support Luna. If he could betray his own brother, what’s to stop him from betraying his niece…” Cassie reasoned.

Convinced by her logic, Walter nodded, “Alright, I’ll get on it right away.”

...

After wrapping up her work, Cassie glanced at the clock and realized it was already noon.
She dialed Joseph's number with an affectionate tone, "Hey Honey, have you eaten yet?"

"Not yet. Actually, I was about to call you. Michael's just opened a new lodge and invited me to hang out," Joseph said softly. "I might stay over tonight."

"I don't like the idea of you spending the night out there alone," Cassie expressed her concern.

"It's not just me. Michael and Ziyuan will be there, and Joyce Ray will take care of me," Joseph teased. "If you miss me that much, you can have Joe drive you over this afternoon."

"Sure," Cassie agreed without hesitation.

Joseph paused for a moment, his tone playfully intimate, "You can't bear to be apart from me for a single moment, huh?"

"Of course, I can't bear it. But what about you? Don't you love me as much anymore, hm?" Cassie's words cornered him so much that he almost surrendered in fear.

"Alright, alright, I can't stand being away from you for a second either. Come over after work," he reassured her.

After hanging up the phone, Cassie's mood soured. It wasn't that she couldn't bear his absence; she was just jealous. Nowadays, whenever she went to work, Joyce Ray was always by Joseph's side. Even when going out, Joyce Ray was with him, which seemed only natural, but it still made her uncomfortable.
