Chapter 395
"But if you are prepared to stand beside me in the public eye," he declared, his voice imbued with a solemnity akin to a vow made in a sacred church, "I promise to hold your hand through every social event we attend henceforth."
Each word he uttered resonated deeply within Cassie. She was a woman of simple means, acutely aware of the other love that resided within his heart. Yet, she found herself irresistibly drawn towards him, especially when such endearing words were whispered by a man of his captivating charm. His intriguingly icy aura enveloped her senses, leaving her swayed and entranced.
"It seems I must demonstrate my love for you through actions," Joseph murmured, his lips curling into a seductive smile. He gently lifted her face, pressing his lips against hers in a tender kiss.
"Stop..." Cassie protested, her voice barely a whisper. She could sense the seriousness in his intentions, leaving her feeling lost and overwhelmed. The fear that had taken root in her heart since that fateful night still lingered.
"My dear, your insecurity is palpable. I need to provide you with a sense of safety," Joseph responded, tightening his grip around her delicate waist. A flush of anger and embarrassment painted Cassie's cheeks a rosy hue. She had had enough of his audacious confidence masquerading as charm.
"I promise I won't hurt you again," Joseph assured her, his voice a soothing balm that could easily drown one in its depth.
The following day dawned bright and clear. As Joseph emerged, fully dressed, Cassie still lay in bed, her lips a tempting invitation. She kept her eyes closed, refusing to meet his gaze.
"Lazybones, the sun is already high in the sky. It's time to rise. The stylist will be here soon to fit you for a gown," he chided gently, planting a soft kiss on her forehead.
"You're the lazy one," Cassie retorted, opening her eyes. But her gaze, filled with a playful pout, was clouded with a hazy mist of emotion.
Joseph clicked his tongue inwardly. Despite the changes in her face, her eyes remained as alluring as ever.
"Allow me help you get dressed, my dear," Joseph offered, pulling out clothes from the closet.
"I don’t need your help. I can dress myself," Cassie responded, pushing him out of the room.
As she moved towards the dressing room, she caught sight of her radiant eyes in the mirror, feeling a touch dazed. This man had proven with his actions the previous night that her disfigurement mattered little to him. She had to admit, her heart felt considerably lighter after the events of the previous night.
At ten in the morning, the stylist arrived with a pale blue, off-the-shoulder gown. It appeared simple, but once Cassie slipped into it, she was transformed. The gown, adorned with tiny sequins that glittered like stars scattered across the night sky, made her look like a princess straight out of a fairytale, her every movement graced with elegance.
The stylist also gave her a loose, wavy hairstyle that partially covered her face, accentuating her vibrant, large eyes. The skin on her shoulders was as smooth and white as milk.
"Madam, you look absolutely stunning today," the stylist gushed, "This gown is a unique creation by the renowned designer Bonny KING, costing a staggering fifty million. It's the only one of its kind in the world."
Cassie was taken aback, not expecting the gown to have such a distinguished pedigree.
"They say Miss Luna had originally intended to wear it for her engagement ceremony, but alas, money can't always secure such pieces," the stylist added with a smile, "Today, you'll surely outshine even the guest of honor at the engagement banquet."
