Chapter 1432 I'm Done Waiting for Him

Derek thought, Laura must really hate Megan.

How many times has Megan hurt Laura?

"Did you ever like Michael?" Derek suddenly asked, a bit of hope in his eyes.

"Michael was good to me for a while. He was nice to Maeve too, and he's good-looking. Saying I didn't like him would be a lie. Back then, I really wanted to spend my life with him. Maybe if I'd been more patient and stricter, the marriage could've worked. But I didn't want to."

Laura pointed to her chest, "There's a crack here. Even if Megan left, I'd still feel like I have to guard Michael with everything I've got. Around Megan, I'm always so vulnerable, so I don't want it anymore."

Her nose tingled as she looked out the window, "I've got a deep wound in my heart. I tried to forget it, but every time Megan shows up, it's like she's stabbing it again. I don't want to live in that pain anymore. Michael doesn't get it, and I'm done waiting for him."

Laura said it so firmly and decisively.

Derek's gentle gaze shifted away, a mix of admiration and pity in his heart.

He really wanted to say, Michael didn't get it, but he did.

But their situation didn't let him say it out loud.

Since Michael didn't appreciate her, Derek didn't feel the need to be polite to him.

Later that night, at the bar.

After several tries, Michael finally got through to Lucas.

"What's up? I just finished surgery," Lucas's calm voice came through.

"Lucas, come have a drink with me, I'm so tired." Michael hiccupped, his handsome face flushed from the booze, "Laura wants to divorce me. She says she hates me. I just don't get it. Why is she doing this? Doesn't she trust me at all?"

Lucas didn't say anything, just slowly unbuttoned his work clothes.

"Did you hear me? Come over." Michael spoke again, feeling miserable, "I'm so annoyed; come have a couple of drinks with me."

"I have a night shift later." Lucas hung up his work clothes and politely declined.

"You can switch shifts with someone. The hospital is practically yours. I'm getting divorced," Michael said, taking another big gulp, "I'm at the bar we used to hang out at."

Lucas was silent for a moment before speaking again, "I'm busy."

Michael was stunned, even in his drunken state he noticed, "What do you mean, Lucas? Did Joseph say something to you? He's your friend, but so am I."

Lucas's handsome brow furrowed, "Michael, if we're friends, you might not understand me completely, but you should at least understand me a little."

Michael didn't get it, "I know Joseph doesn't like Megan. But you and Megan have nothing going on, right? Megan has always respected you; she considers you a friend."

Lucas sighed, "Whether she considers me a friend or uses me, I know in my heart. Michael, I personally sent Nina to prison. Nina was innocent, but later she was found dead. Because of Nina, Esmeralda died, and William died too. Do you really think I'm heartless?"

What really hurt Lucas was that Michael just didn't get it.

Michael was quiet for a moment, then stammered, "None of this has anything to do with her. Esmeralda fell, William Zenith was driven to his death by his own son, and Nina was hurt by David and Marcus. You can't blame everything on Megan."

"There's nothing more to say. I'm very busy, goodbye." Lucas hung up.

Michael stared at his phone, stunned.

He'd had a falling out with Joseph before, but Lucas had never acted like this.

Now, even Lucas didn't care about him?

Laura wanted to divorce him, and his best friends seemed distant.

Michael suddenly felt very lonely and lost.

He usually hung out with Joseph and Lucas the most, and now he didn't know who to call.

No one understood him.

He scrolled through his contacts and somehow dialed Jonah's number, "Come over; have a couple of drinks with me."

Jonah immediately agreed.

Michael's eyes welled up with tears as he smiled, thinking, "See, I still have friends. Even if Joseph and Lucas don't give a damn about me, I don't need them."

Michael drank heavily, and by the time Jonah arrived, he was already drunk and dazed.

"Why did you get yourself into this state?" Jonah sighed.

"They don't understand." Michael said sadly, "Laura wants to divorce me just because she found out I was hiding Megan. I never cheated on Laura. Now she says she hates me."

"Is it necessary?" Jonah frowned. To him, women were replaceable, "You're just too concerned about Laura."

"Exactly, I treat Laura so well." Michael, drunk, felt like he had finally found a kindred spirit in Jonah, "I treat Laura so well. I cook; I give her gifts. I never treated Megan this well, and Megan sacrificed so much for me. Can't I make up for my guilt a little?"

"Of course you can. It's your money; you can spend it however you want. What right does a woman have to control you?" Jonah said lazily, "Laura is just too ungrateful. Without you, she wouldn't have been taken in as the President's Goddaughter. And her company wouldn't have been so successful. On the other hand, look at how much Megan has sacrificed for you and got nothing in return."

"Exactly, Laura is too greedy." Michael mumbled in agreement.

Who knows how long they talked and drank, but eventually, Michael passed out on the table, completely drunk.

Jonah helped him into the car, "I'll take you home."

"No, going home is pointless." Michael mumbled.

Jonah thought about it, Michael's house was empty, indeed pointless.

Coincidentally, Megan had sent him several Facebook messages asking about Michael's situation, so he decided to take Michael to her apartment.

Michael was too drunk. Jonah helped him to the bed, giving Megan a suggestive look, "He's all yours to take care of."

"Jonah, why is he so drunk?" Megan looked worried, "Did Laura find out about me and argue with him? I really didn't mean to ruin his marriage."
