Chapter 1336 She Never Wanted You to Be Her Mother
Marigold grabbed onto Joseph's pant leg, tears streaming down her face. "Joseph, my dad was just talking out of his ass, don't take it seriously."
"You think I'm stupid?" Joseph bent down slowly, his voice soft but his eyes ice-cold. "You should never have dragged my mom into this. Ralph, since you came up with this bright idea, let your wife and daughter handle it."
"Please, don't." Ophelia started bawling, and Marigold clung even tighter. "Joseph, I'm begging you. I'll do whatever you want. You had the hots for me before, right? I know you like me."
Declan, Everett, and Isabella's family all turned to Joseph, looking seriously pissed.
Everett snickered, "Didn't see that coming."
Joseph's face darkened, and he shook Marigold off. "You're dreaming. I felt like puking when you touched me. I was thinking of someone else to feel anything. And nothing ever happened between us."
Marigold's face went ghostly pale, her makeup smeared from crying, making her look like a mess.
Derek chuckled, "Alright, Joseph, stop scaring them. If the Dixon family rebels, they'll all get wiped out."
The words "wiped out" made the Dixon family freak out even more.
Ophelia almost fainted from panic, and Marigold couldn't handle it. She screamed, "I'll do anything for you, even sleep with you. Just don't kill me. I had nothing to do with the rebellion."
"I can too," Ophelia added, throwing all dignity out the window. "I'm older, but my skin's still good, and I know a lot of tricks in bed."
"Shut up!" Ralph's eyes were bloodshot with rage.
These were his wife and daughter. He never thought they'd stoop so low, crushing his pride as a man.
"Gross," Michael said, looking disgusted. "Take them away."
Soon, people came and hauled the entire Dixon family off, along with their relatives for questioning.
The remaining guests looked at Carl, scared out of their minds.
Carl raised his hand and pointed at over thirty people. "All of you who sided with Ralph, take them away and lock them up. The rest will be questioned, and only those who check out can leave."
Everyone was freaked out by Carl's crazy good memory of who sided with Ralph.
At that moment, the nobles realized that the seemingly chill and controllable Carl had been scheming all along. He was just waiting for those connected to the Dixon family to show their cards so he could take them all down at once.
From now on, Carl would have Madison in the palm of his hand.
"Mr. Carl Jude, you're something else," Declan said with a faint smile. "Ralph doesn't hold a candle to you."
It seemed that ever since Carl became president, he had been plotting to take out Ralph and anyone disloyal to him.
But back then, a lot of people didn't listen to Carl, and he couldn't really control Madison's power.
Carl's usual patience and stepping back were just to let Ralph's people come out of the woodwork. When everyone showed their true colors, it was time for Carl to take them all down.
From today, all the disloyal folks in Whisperlyn City were booted out, and Carl could finally chill.
Even after his presidential gig was up, Carl could make sure he got re-elected.
When Carl stepped down, he could have his son Derek take over.
Carl smiled, kinda helpless, "This time, thanks to Joseph finding Everett and shutting down David in time, I couldn't have controlled things even if I stopped Ralph's rebellion. And David's got big ambitions. Honestly, I don't want him around."
Everyone's eyes landed on Joseph's tall, solid figure.
Even Declan and Everett couldn't help but show a bit of respect.
Carl patted Joseph's shoulder, looking proud, "And this whole plan was Joseph's idea. He got close to Marigold on purpose to make everyone think he was desperate and had to suck up to her. Meanwhile, the Dixon family and David thought they had Joseph under their thumb, making them cocky and careless, thinking they had it all figured out. When they let their guard down, he could secretly rescue Everett. Joseph, you've been through a lot."
"Carl, don't say that. I was just getting rid of a big threat for myself," Joseph said, frowning. "If it weren't for David and Ralph, I wouldn't have ended up like this."
Isabella felt super awkward and uncomfortable.
She knew that if she hadn't backed David, the Hernandez family wouldn't be in this mess.
Her lips moved with difficulty, "Joseph, the Hernandez Group is yours. I can give it back to you."
"Joseph, that's awesome," Michael said happily, but Joseph raised his hand to stop him.
Joseph's face stayed calm, "The Hernandez Group has been renamed the Robert Group. It's not mine anymore."
Isabella's face turned red with shame, feeling totally humiliated.
The name Robert Group was a joke. "I'm sorry, I didn't know at the time."
"A loss is a loss." Joseph cut her off, "As the former chairman of the Hernandez Group, my incompetence led to the company's takeover. Even if it was hostile, it was still my failure. A truly capable person can handle crises, even in a hostile takeover. I didn't do that. Plus, Olivia bought the shares from the shareholders with a ton of money, and some of my family took your money and bailed. So there's no giving the company back to me. It's your company now, and I'm just a small shareholder."
His honesty made Declan and Isabella feel a sense of respect.
Isabella felt even more conflicted. Her daughter's judgment was spot-on, but unfortunately...
"Then I'll have Cassie manage the company."
"She won't want anything from you," Joseph said coolly. "I think she doesn't even want you to be her mother."
Isabella's chest heaved with anger.
Just as Isabella was about to speak, she saw an officer leading a cool-looking three-year-old boy into the room.
"Oh, Oliver, you weren't scared, were you?" Michael walked over with a cheeky grin, reaching out to pinch Oliver's cheek.
Oliver blocked Michael's hand and walked straight to Joseph with a cold expression.
