Chapter 1116 I Love You
Cassie found it funny since she was just joking around.
She liked handsome guys, but if she liked someone, she'd still like him even if he got old and unattractive.
"Cassie, it's lunchtime. Want to eat together?" Joseph asked, trying to be charming.
"Sure."
"Where do you want to go? There are lots of restaurants nearby."
"Let's eat at home," Cassie cut him off. "You should go home and rest."
"No, I want to be with you," Joseph said, looking at her.
"If I take you to the Chapman family, Aiden will kill me," Cassie said, then added, "Let's go to Maplewood Apartments. You have a place there, right? Rest there during the day and go back to Oliver and Sophia in the evening."
"Okay." Joseph was thrilled. As long as Cassie was with him, he didn't mind resting for a day or even a month.
On the way, Cassie drove while Joseph sat in the passenger seat, happy as a kid. "Cassie, there's nothing at Maplewood Apartments. Let's buy some food."
"We'll hit the grocery store later," Cassie agreed.
While shopping, Cassie bought three steaks. Joseph was ecstatic. "Cassie, you remember I love your steak."
"Yeah, Sophia loves it too." Thinking of Sophia, Cassie softened. "Why don't we go to the Hernandez Villa? Oliver and Sophia are there."
"Not today. I want to be with you," Joseph said, holding her hand.
"Haven't we spent enough time together? I even agreed to have barbecue with you yesterday." Cassie felt increasingly guilty towards Oliver and Sophia since she and Joseph hadn't spent much time with them.
"Cassie, you barely paid attention to me during the barbecue," Joseph reminded her. "I was so bummed I went home and cut my finger without hesitation."
Cassie was speechless. "Alright, I'll keep you company."
Joseph nodded, pushing the shopping cart. He wanted to buy strawberries, lychees, and yogurt because Cassie liked them.
Cassie let him buy whatever he wanted without saying anything.
After shopping, they noticed someone following them.
"These reporters are too much," Joseph frowned.
"Whatever. Everyone knows we got back together before my divorce. I don't care," Cassie said calmly.
Joseph nodded.
At Maplewood Apartments, Cassie put on an apron and started cooking. Joseph felt guilty. "Cassie, I'll cook. Even though your cooking is amazing, I feel bad making you do it."
"Forget it. You're injured." Cassie pushed him out.
She finished cooking in less than half an hour.
Joseph hadn't had her steak in a long time and found it especially delicious. After lunch, he sighed. "I was such an idiot before."
"Glad you know," Cassie said with a smile.
Joseph was momentarily speechless, then continued, "I had you as my wife, such a beautiful, successful woman with amazing cooking skills, yet I got tangled up with Megan. She can't compare to you; she's not as pretty, can't earn as much, and her cooking is awful. I must have been crazy."
Cassie raised her eyebrows but said nothing, just quietly watching him.
"Cassie," Joseph pulled her into his arms. "You are perfect."
"My mom deserves the credit," Cassie accepted his praise.
Joseph smiled and kissed her.
"Stop it, I need to wash the dishes." Cassie pushed him away.
"I'll do it," Joseph said.
"You're injured; how can you wash dishes?"
"Didn't we buy gloves? I planned to use them for washing dishes," Joseph took out the gloves. "They won't let water in."
Cassie was stunned; she thought he was just joking.
"No need, wait until you're better," Cassie took the gloves away.
"Cassie, I can't bear to let you wash dishes," Joseph frowned. "I was immature before, but now I want to cherish you. Even though your cooking is delicious, I can be less picky and eat what others make."
Cassie was surprised.
Joseph's picky eating was well-known. He used to always find ways to get her into the kitchen.
Cassie said softly, "Joseph, I don't hate cooking. In fact, I enjoy it. But sometimes work is too tiring, and I don't want to cook every day. When I want to cook, I will. When I don't, I can choose not to. No one can force me."
"Okay," Joseph understood.
"Go rest; I'll wash the dishes today," Cassie said, heading back to the kitchen.
After washing the dishes, Joseph pulled her into his arms again. "Cassie, take a nap with me. I didn't sleep well last night."
"Okay," Cassie nodded, seeing the dark circles under his eyes.
Without another word, Joseph carried her to the bedroom and placed her head on his arm.
He had longed for this day for so long, thinking it might never come.
Fortunately, God blessed him.
Breathing in her scent, Joseph felt sleepy but couldn't fall asleep. "Cassie, I wish I could sleep like this with you every night."
"Don't push your luck," Cassie pinched him playfully.
"When Sophia and Oliver are safe, can we live together?" Joseph asked, despite the pain.
"Okay, sleep now," Cassie closed her eyes.
She had thought the same when they reconciled. She wanted to take care of Sophia and Oliver herself.
Joseph's lips curved into a smile as he watched her peaceful sleeping face, feeling immensely satisfied. Cassie fell asleep first, but he was still awake.
He took out his phone, intertwined his fingers with hers, and took a photo, posting it on WhatsApp with the caption: [We've missed each other time and again, gone through so much. I never want to let go of your hand again. I love you!]
