Chapter 1562 Anything Else to Say?

Michael had never really thought about this stuff before; he was too busy hating Laura for making Megan lose her chance to be a mom.

But now, it hit him. If Megan had actually had that baby, he would've been terrified. He couldn't decide if he felt more relieved or sad about it.

"Well, what else? Just spill it all."

Michael looked at Lucas, almost numb.

Lucas leaned back a bit, a smirk on his face, but his words cut deep. "You got played, and because your life's been a mess, you came running to me all pissed off, right? The crappier your life gets, the more you miss the good old days. Back then, your parents were close, you had a sweet wife and kid waiting at home. And now? What do you have? A Megan who drowns in self-pity every day, who wants a big wedding even though you're broke? Or a Megan who keeps asking for money and control of the finances? Or maybe a Megan who thinks you're cheating if you're home late?"

Michael was floored.

If he hadn't lost touch with Lucas for so long, he'd think he was still venting to him every day.

"Aren't you curious how I know that?" Lucas's eyes narrowed slightly, "Just by looking at your face. Michael, go home. If you want to fight, I'll be here, but it won't fix anything. I don't regret what I did, and I bet Laura doesn't regret taking the fall for Bernice. Back then, you wouldn't divorce, and Laura was disgusted by you and Megan. She couldn't wait to end things with you."

"Our divorce is one thing, but Bernice kidnapping Megan is another." Michael slowly met Lucas's gaze, starting to calm down. "Since Bernice committed a crime, I'll make sure she goes to jail."

"Got any proof?" Lucas asked with a faint smile.

Michael was stunned. He knew Lucas too well and understood everything.

After all this time, any evidence would have been wiped clean by Lucas.

"Lucas, is Bernice really that important?" Michael asked, staring at him.

"For my own sake, Bernice is pretty important right now. From my company's perspective, Bernice is our top artist, bringing in over a billion dollars a year. I have no reason to give her up for a Megan I can't stand."

Lucas suddenly stood up straight and gave Michael a shove with his long, slender hand.

Michael stumbled out the door.

Lucas said, "Michael, our relationship is dead. If you show up at my door causing trouble again, I'll call the cops. And if you want to mess with me, go ahead and try. I don't care about you anymore. Don't be mad; it's your own fault for ruining our relationship over Megan. I'm not your parents who have to put up with you even if they don't like you." Lucas finished and slammed the door.

Upstairs, Bernice came down in a black nightgown. The clothes here were all bought by Lucas, and this was the only one that wasn't too revealing. Still, her delicate collarbones were exposed, with red kiss marks on her skin, making her look both innocent and seductive.

Lucas glanced at her, and Michael's last question popped into his head. 'Is Bernice really that important?'

Lucas chuckled softly.

Yeah, she was pretty important right now.

At least, Lucas felt the deal was worth it.

Sometimes, Lucas admitted he was cold-blooded.

Despite their decade-long friendship, Lucas ditched Michael without a second thought. Of course, Michael had always been in the wrong.

"What are you laughing at?" Bernice asked, giving Lucas a puzzled look. She had heard his conversation with Michael from upstairs.

Even though she despised Lucas, she found his words pretty satisfying.

Michael was exactly that kind of guy.

In his marriage, Michael was totally in the wrong, yet he blamed Laura.

All the responsibility was on others, while Michael always played the victim.

"I'm laughing at myself for being so obsessed with you lately," Lucas pulled her into his arms, his handsome face smiling seductively, "Look, for you, I didn't give Michael any dignity. I threw away our decade-long friendship."

Bernice lowered her head and said indifferently, "You just don't want to deal with Michael anymore. Work has already drained you, and if friendships are filled with arguments, there's no point."

"Are you that insecure?" Lucas kissed her lips gently, his tone tender.

Most people couldn't resist Lucas like this, but Bernice knew him too well.

"Yeah, I'm insecure," Bernice smiled.

"No worries, I'll give you confidence." Lucas deepened the kiss.

In the parking lot downstairs, Michael sat in his car, unmoving.

His phone on the passenger seat kept ringing; it was Megan calling.

He didn't want to answer, just curled up like a child.

Men usually had their happy families at thirty. What about him? He had a wife, but it felt like he had nothing.

Lucas accused Michael of always blaming others. Yeah, Michael was that kind of person.

In the past, Michael blamed Laura for being malicious. After learning the truth, he blamed Laura and Lucas for helping Bernice deceive him, forgetting that he never trusted Laura.

If he had just looked into it a little, he would have known the truth.

But he did nothing. He had kicked Laura to the ground, broken her ribs, and sent her to the hospital.

He had called Laura the most malicious woman in the world and said his biggest regret was marrying her.

Recalling all this, Michael wept in pain.

He was bad, hypocritical, and dishonest.

Michael always thought Lucas was a playboy, but just now, that playboy mocked him for being bad and shirking responsibility.

Definitely, Michael didn't think he was bad. He made love to Megan, got her pregnant, and still didn't think he was bad. He swore to his family that he was honest with Megan and promised Laura he would only love her.

And what happened?

Michael left Laura bruised and battered, married Megan, gave her the best wedding, and humiliated Laura, trampling her dignity.

He was a jerk.

Michael suddenly found Laura's number and dialed it.

But instead of hearing Laura's voice, it was Derek's, "Michael, what's up?"

"Derek, why is it you? Are you still with Laura this late?" Michael asked, heartbroken.
