Chapter 396
The clock struck eleven. Joseph had returned from his office, intent on escorting her. Cassie, with a smile that outshone the stars, linked her arm with his. "I'm quite enamored with this dress," she confessed, her eyes sparkling with delight.
Joseph's eyebrow arched in satisfaction. His last-minute scramble to outbid for Luna's gown had paid off. The joy it brought Cassie made every penny worthwhile.
As they drove towards the hotel, they paused at an intersection. Cassie's gaze wandered and fell upon a pharmacy. A sudden need gripped her. "Pull over at the next block, I need to make a quick stop at the drugstore," she instructed.
"I can fetch it for you. What do you need?" Joseph offered, his gaze never leaving her.
"Birth control," Cassie admitted, her expression turning awkward.
Joseph's frown deepened as he attempted to reason with her. "We could consider starting a family, you know. I believe I'd make a decent father."
Cassie was at a loss for words. Their relationship was far too unstable to bring a child into the mix. Besides, there were numerous goals she had yet to achieve.
"I'm not ready for that step yet; I'm still a kid myself. I'm young," she protested, turning her face away to underline her point.
"Alright, I'll get it," Joseph conceded.
Once parked, he entered the drugstore. "A bottle of vitamin C, and the birth control," he ordered. The clerk handed them over. Before her very eyes, Joseph switched the pills.
The clerk could only stare. Such a handsome man, yet so eager to trap a woman with a child?
Back in the car, Joseph offered Cassie the pills and a bottle of water. "Let's skip it today; it's not healthy to overdo it. Next time, I'll take precautions," he assured her.
Next time... Cassie's thoughts drifted to Walter, sitting upfront. She shot Joseph an embarrassed glare.
"Darling, it's a natural part of marriage," Joseph teased, his grin mischievous.
Cassie chose to remain silent. It was best to let the topic drop; the conversation was veering off into uncomfortable territory.

The Grand Pavilion Intercontinental Hotel. A newly developed five-star establishment nestled along the coast, boasting a private beach and seven gourmet restaurants. It was a favored venue for the affluent and the famous to host their extravagant weddings.
The engagement party was arranged on the private beach, surrounded by lush, manicured grounds. Luna reveled in the adoration showered upon her.
Lilian laughed lightly, "Luna, Felix has truly outdone himself for you, reserving the entire hotel."
"Sister Luna, I'm so envious," Cousin Rain chimed in, her eyes gleaming with jealousy.
"You're making a mountain out of a molehill. Felix is an investor in this hotel; that's the only reason he could book the entire place," Luna dismissed, her words laced with a hint of the grandeur she felt.
